beaujolais Posted January 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 7, 2014 (edited) We are Gold cruisers with Regent, not far to Platinum, and 500 days with Silversea. We have not sailed with RSSC for a couple of years and were considering coming back. We looked at booking the Mariner from Buenos Aires for up to 30 days in a penthouse suite and wanted to stay a couple of extra days before the cruise in Buenos Aires,ie; before the pre cruise free night. RSSC have told us that we have to pay $300.00 (£198.00) per person per night, $600.00 (396.00) per room per night. if we wish to book through them, this price does include transfers. I have looked at the website for the Sheraton Hotels, one of which is where RSSC appear to be putting guests this year, they have 2 hotels it appears, and their charges are almost the same at $ 200.00 per room per night fully flex rate including breakfast, (their Rack rate is $300.00) if you were to book direct with Sheraton Do RSSC always charge this must extra for booking through them in order to include transfers from the airport as Silversea are far more reasonable and I now wonder if it is worth coming back to RSSC if this is an indication of their extras Edited January 7, 2014 by beaujolais

The response you will get from myself as well as I am sure others is to take a credit for the "free" (included nite) and then book yourself in your hotel of choice and book your own transfers. You will save a bundle, avoid the Regent buses thus doing your transfers on your schedule in a more comfortable vehicle and avoiding the Regent provide hotels which reports have recently been provided are less than acceptable. With Regent being mostly all-inclusive, they have to increase their profits elsewhere and seem to have chosen extra cost excursions, pre and post cruise hotels as well as pre and post cruise tours as places where people are susceptible the accept Regent pricing when, with a little searching on their own results in hundreds to thousands of dollars in savings. While the Regent on board experience is wonderful, the home office experience as well as exorbitant charges for extras need to be factored in to your choice of cruise lines. Hope you have a wonderful cruise wherever you choose to cruise on your choice of cruise lines.
jongbj Posted January 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Just out of curiosity: How do you get the 'credit' for the 'free hotel night'?
tnr Posted January 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 7, 2014 When you book the cruise (or even after booking) just let Regent know you do not want the pre-cruise hotel and they will take it off your invoice.
rallydave Posted January 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Just out of curiosity: How do you get the 'credit' for the 'free hotel night'? Really quite simple, tell your TA you want the credit or if without a TA, contact Regent and tell them. The credit should show up on your invoice and lower your final payment. FYI, two years ago, the credit was $300/nite/person but, pretty sure it has changed and is lower but, you can get that info direct from your TA or Regent. jongbj Posted January 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Sounds interesting. We already made our final payment, so will try next time. Let's see what the Hyatt in Miami is going to be like.
rallydave Posted January 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Sounds interesting. We already made our final payment, so will try next time. Let's see what the Hyatt in Miami is going to be like. Believe you can cancel even after final payment but, check with Regent or your TA. With the decrease in amount credited, might not make financial sense but, that is up to the individual. Would expect it to always be less expensive if you book with points or at a less upscale hotel but, some people need everything taken care of for them. Simply depends on how much time you want to spend booking your own hotel and transfers. In Miami, the Regent prices for Transfers are well beyond exorbitant. In most other ports they are similarly priced and a pre-booked transfer or simply a cab are the transfers of choice for people who want to save money and have more convenience.
