Notes/comments on the May 1 sailing of the Majesty

Recommended Posts

We just returned from the Majesty's May 1st sailing and have a few comments/notes:

I was very surprised to find seafood in the Windjammer for lunch on embarkation day. A large display (on ice) of shrimp, crawfish, mussels, etc. The shrimp were larger than those in the MDR shrimp cocktail, and were very good.

I was again surprised to find fresh blueberries on the breakfast buffet the next morning.

The cabin (OV) was the size we expected and was very clean with everything in good repair. Cabin steward was very good; we saw him the first day when he introduced himself and again one morning when we returned to the cabin to pick up our beach bag before leaving for the day, but he obviously had been in the cabin twice a day while we were out.

There was a nasty odor in the hallway three times, but it didn’t extend into the cabin and was gone the next time we entered/left the cabin.

The Diamond event in the VCL was very nice. Service was perfect, it was peaceful and pleasant, and the food was wonderful. I have been very tired of MDR food for years now, but thoroughly enjoyed the food in the VCL, to the point of ruining my MDR dinner all four evenings. There was a sign at the entrance, but nobody was paying attention when we arrived. We sat down and I placed our cards on the table in case they were required. We were served without question and without even a glance at the cards. On the last evening, there seemed to be a lot of different people in attendance. One of the servers moved the sign to the middle of the entranceway but there were still no questions asked.

We made it to CocoCay and had a great time as usual. The water was a bit cool for Floridians (I am guessing about 76-78), but we went in anyway. I didn’t see any evidence of the groundbreaking for the new construction, but we didn’t stray far.

The weather in Nassau was the most pleasant we have ever experienced there. It was on the cool side with a slight breeze, probably a bit cool for water activities. We took a taxi to Baha Mar, which finally had a soft opening last week after approximately 10 years of on again, off again construction. The grounds are gorgeous, the casino is huge (100,000 square feet) and very nice. New, up-to-date slot machines and many tables. Service was excellent, with the employees outnumbering the visitors, at least when we arrived at about 9:30 a.m. We played for 2.5 hours with a total of $100 between us, changing to a table game with $145 after all that time playing slots. The dealer was obviously very new, but seemed to have been well trained and was supervised the entire time. The $145 did not make it back to the ship with us, but we were able to play 3-card poker for over an additional hour with that amount and had a really nice time.

Disembarkation was not bad this morning, though we had to wait a while because my SO did not want to carry off our bags and very many people did, so that took a while. We did not receive customs declaration forms, and the cabin steward said he had been instructed not to provide any. This was apparently the first returning ship on the “verbal report only” method. We were told to have our personal identification with citizenship information and sea pass cards ready as we left the ship. I had my passport in my hand as I was scanned out the last time, but nobody looked at it. We went through the normal lines and turned over our passports for inspection, but were not asked for any of the information that appears on the declaration form - no questions at all. Surprising, but very easy.

I thought writing this as soon as I returned would be enough, but I guess I was wrong and I should have taken notes. So I am adding...

We finally saw Earl Turner. I have read comments about his show many times but never saw him before. Great show. The seats in the theater are not among the most comfortable I ever experienced, though.

There was apparently a medical emergency during the night, as my SO woke at 2:30 a.m. this morning because there were flashing lights outside our window. Turned out to be an ambulance and we were already docked at PC.

Thanks for taking time to post your excellent review. We are always glad to hear about Majesty. This is the first I have heard about the paperless customs. I hope it sticks. Those tiny little spaces on the forms are a pain.
