passport issued quickly despite first name discrepancy

Mom and I applied for expedited first time passports at the only walk in (no appointment) post office acceptance facility in the northern Atlanta, GA area twenty days ago. We got our passports today.

There's a discrepancy between Mom's birth certificate first name and the first name she's always used, including on her driver's license. I worried that would cause a problem. It did not.

Here's an example of how it worked in Mom's case:

Pretend Mom's birth name is Mary Jane Doe. She always went by Jane Doe. Then she married my father Jim Smith and consistently called herself Jane Doe Smith.

Mom applied for a passport as Jane Doe Smith. She presented a US birth certificate for Mary Jane Doe and a Georgia (US) driver's license for Jane Doe Smith. No other documents were requested. The passport was issued to Jane Doe Smith in 20 days.

As folks often say on CC, your mileage may vary.

Very happy you got your passports. Thank you for coming back to tell us 'the rest of the story'. :) So many times people come here asking for advice and help and we never hear how their issue settled for them.

Have a great cruise.
