B2B and OBC

Would anyone happen to know on a B2B if we have all of our OBC‘s assigned to our first cruise, can we have any leftover OBC carry over to our second cruise?

Also at the end of the first cruise will we need to close out that account and open a new one for the second part of the cruise, or will they be combined? (If it makes any difference we will be changing cabins for the second leg)

Thanks for any help.

They are treated as 2 separate cruises with 2 accounts and unfortunately you cannot carry over OBC. You can cash it out at guest services on the final night of the first cruise (if its refundable OBC) or take it as cash out from the casino if its not refundable. There is a 5% charge for this.

So, it might be better to put half on one cruise and half on the other??

Not too sure what you mean. I haven't seen any OBC that you get to pick which sailing it is assigned to.

If it is OBC from a TA then I would ask her to split it between the 2 cruises as you suggested.

I am not sure if I am remembering correctly…..but I thought when you redeemed points for your OBC it asked for date of travel, name of ship etc. I could be wrong, it has been a while.

So now that I know that they cannot carry over…was thinking of splitting up the credit between the 2 sailings.

Please tell me if I am wrong about this.

yes, some of the OBC is from TA, but the majority is from the RC Visa points.

I did not know that it made a difference...thought OBC was OBC.

At the end of the day it is all the same but somewhat is issued by RCI for booking on board, promotions etc is assigned to a specific cruise and is non refundable. Some given by a TA may actually be from Royal do may have to be applied to a specific cruise. Other OBC like that from Visa points can be assigned to whatever cruise you want. Not sure but if you redeem points for a set amount I don't think that you can then split that between 2 different sailings.

I'd do as you suggested, split the OBC between the cruises.

You get the $50 RC Visa OBC for 5000 points, so you can order some in increments of $50 for each cruise. For example, if you have 20,000 points, you could get two $50 OBCs for the first cruise and two for the second one. (You do have to put in your sail date and reservation number for each cruise along with how many $50 OBCs you want when you order, and that's how it will be applied.)

Check with your TA to see if you can get the TA OBC divided in half with half applied to each cruise. If you're getting OBC from Royal from a promotion or some kind of deal, it will be credited to whichever cruise it applied to when you booked.

Some OBC is "refundable" and some is not. Refundable means you can go to Guest Services and get cash for any remaining on the last night. If it's non refundable and you don't use all of it, it's lost. The Visa points OBC is refundable. TA OBC may also be refundable, but most Royal OBC is not refundable.

We had an interesting experience in August on Navigator. We had cashed in 10k points for two $50 OBCs. We only got ONE of them applied to the account. I had the confirmation and receipt with me and went to GS on Day 2, but they said it all gets applied in Miami now.

So the GS folks emailed Miami…repeatedly.

They apologized to me…repeatedly. They even gave us a bottle of champagne.

Miami responded 2 or 3 times with a canned statement…"The guest has already received $50 OBC."

GS wrote back again and again…"Yes, but the guest has confirmation of TWO $50 OBCs and only received one. See attached documentation."

So finally on Day 6 somebody in Miami actually looked at the scanned documentation and said "Oops, sorry, we see the mistake, but it's now too late in the cruise to apply it, so we'll credit $50 back to your credit card." (This is how I know the Visa points OBC is refundable.) We got the $50 credited to our CC about 4 or 5 days after the cruise.

What perplexes me about this situation is that Miami doesn't seem to realize that it would have actually cost them much less to give us the $50 in our ship account. We would have spent it on the ship on things they make a profit on. I figure that fifty bucks would have actually only cost them about $15-20 that way. But instead, they screwed it up and paid the whole $50 to us on our credit card, making no profit at all off that fifty bucks. Plus it cost them a bottle of champagne.

Seems like Miami needs somebody with some business sense to revamp this system of applying OBC. Like maybe they should recruit a supervisor who knows how to read, can discriminate between the numbers ONE and TWO, and knows how to efficiently apply OBC in a timely manner. Maximizing their profit and capturing the customers' money onboard rather than handing it back just seems like common sense to me.

Just sayin'...;)... Maybe their IT people are the ones in charge of applying OBC???...

(Be sure to take copies of all your documentation!)
