kon000 Posted November 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2014 We will sail to Auckland from Sydney late Jan next year with 1 and 2 year old kids. We would love to try Murano one night and organize in room baby sitting. Does anyone have experience of in-room baby sitting? how was it? Also, if our kids are tired or not happy at lunch or dinner time, we might order room service off from main dining menu. We also want to hear experience of the room service main dining lunch or dinner from you. Thank you,
cruisead Posted November 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2014 Your youngest must be 12 months, not 11 months 20 days or whatever. The price is $19 per hour, plus tip, and there will be two sitters. It's not guaranteed that you will get a sitter as it's done on a voluntary basis. Go to guest services on your first day on board to sign up.
mtn_couple Posted November 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2014 Just be aware that in room babysitters are not qualified staff or kids club staff. It is by staff who volunteer to babysit to earn extra $$.
We're The Groupnors Posted November 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2014 At lunch you can not order off the MDR menu, you are limited to the regular room service options, which are listed on the room service channel on your TV. The selection is decent, and you have choices from salads to burgers and lots in between. You can order off the MDR menu for dinner during the hours the MDR is open. Just ask your room steward for that evening's menu. You also have the option of ordering off the regular room service menu for dinner. Note that all courses will come at once, not course by course as they would when you're eating in the dining room.
swjumbo Posted November 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2014 We had babysitting on three occasions and can thoroughly recommend doing it. Despite other comments above, the people who babysat (always two) were from the kids club. They were dressed immaculately, and gave us a pager just in case we had to return. There was obviously paperwork to be completed with the normal signatures, blah, blah, blah. We fed the kids at six, then put them to bed, got ourselves ready (quite tricky when you're trying to be quiet in the dark) and the babysitters arrived at eight. We left the cabin quite apprehensive but needn't have worried. It was so good we did it twice again and we're able to relax more. I wouldn't bother with Murano for lunch. Get the babysitters in and go there on two evenings instead! Enjoy.
cruisead Posted November 2, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2014 Murano isn't open for lunch on a regular basis. They may offer a special lunch once a cruise.
pandj24 Posted November 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2014 We have had great luck utilizing the kids club for our kids (most recent cruise they were 3 and 6 years old). Here's my question: the in-room babysitting really appeals to me, as both of our kids still need 11+ hours of sleep a night. However, where do the babysitters sit? We use the sofa for our youngest and the overhead berth for our oldest for sleeping. So would the babysitters sit on the bed? It doesn't seem like a very comfortable option for a few hours... I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts! Thanks :)
swjumbo Posted November 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 3, 2014 They seemed to quite happy sitting on the floor!! They said that they were happy to do it as it was better than their own quarter. They had iPads and books. Both our young children didn't even know we'd left the cabin.

Special morning meals include continental breakfast served, on request, in your stateroom between 6:30am and 10:00pm. Advise your stateroom attendant the night before by completing the request form in your stateroom. If you’re staying in a suite and would like a full breakfast served to you in your suite between 7:30am and 10:00am, notify your butler/stateroom attendant the night before by filling out the breakfast request form. In addition, during restaurant lunch and dinner hours, you may order room service from the restaurant menu. Ask your butler/stateroom attendant for the menus of the day.
