Tinkerkelle Posted October 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Just got a Canon D10 and was wondering if anyone has any tips for using it to its maximum potential. I usually just point & shoot but I really would like to get some great shots while snorkeling!!!
Mr. Click Posted October 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2014 The camera alone does not make great shots....the person using the camera is every bit as important if not more important. Take your time, think before you shot, compose, watch the lighting and make it happen. Great pictures are everywhere, we just have to find them
CT Sean Posted October 21, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2014 The above is a good perspective - cameras don't take great pics, people do. Just a couple tips that might help for underwater pics: Use manual white balance, though for snorkel depth - assuming you won't be freediving to 40 feet, the underwater white balance may be adequate. Without the ability to shoot RAW it is very difficult to correct color if you don't get it reasonably close in-camera - either way test it - red light gets absorbed very quickly underwater which gives pics a heavy blue tint that is very hard to "post-process" out. Try to be level or below your subject - shooting down on stuff below you makes for bland pics (I know - I have lots of them :) ) Getting your subject in focus is quite a challenge with both you and your subject moving around Avoid pictures of fish butts
