Canon D10--any tips for using it?

The camera alone does not make great shots....the person using the camera is every bit as important if not more important. Take your time, think before you shot, compose, watch the lighting and make it happen. Great pictures are everywhere, we just have to find them

The above is a good perspective - cameras don't take great pics, people do.

Just a couple tips that might help for underwater pics:

Use manual white balance, though for snorkel depth - assuming you won't be freediving to 40 feet, the underwater white balance may be adequate. Without the ability to shoot RAW it is very difficult to correct color if you don't get it reasonably close in-camera - either way test it - red light gets absorbed very quickly underwater which gives pics a heavy blue tint that is very hard to "post-process" out.

Try to be level or below your subject - shooting down on stuff below you makes for bland pics (I know - I have lots of them :) )

Getting your subject in focus is quite a challenge with both you and your subject moving around

Avoid pictures of fish butts
