Thanks for the second link. It was fun to watch.

 

On our Venice sailaway last September, the two ships were side-by-side facing each other at San Basilio and then we on Quest sailed out just in front of Journey.

There was also a big demonstration against cruise ships on Venice waterfront that day, I believe.

Yes, we ended up leaving almost an hour late because the police had to round up many small boats which were obstructing the route just before San Marco. They formed a cordon around them driving them back towards shore, and there were hundreds on shore shouting with large banners. It was quite a processsion of about 12 cruise ships all leaving in a stately procession down Guidecca. A very memorable sailaway!:)
