We're planning to fly from LAX to YQB on 9/30/15 on Air Canada, with a connection in Montreal. Once we land in YUL, how much time should we plan to collect our bags, pass through Customs, and then check our bags again in time to board the flight to Quebec City? Is 90 minutes enough? Would love to hear previous travelers' experiences. Thanks in advance!

If your booked thru with Air Canada this what will happen

1 - you'll clear Canada customs and immigration

2 - you'll pick up your baggage

3 - not selected for secondary checks . You'll take your bag to kiosk where you'll give your bags back to Air Canada

4 - You'll leave the secured area and proceed to your gate area after clear security again.

Signage in the airport is very poor and usually on in french.

I've connected at YUL for YQB many times; shortest connection I ever made was 45 minutes (delayed leaving FLL); last January made a 1:15 connection coming off the Swiss flight from ZRH.

Note that the YQB flights leave from a different section, reached by a rather long underground corridor after security - fortunately there are moving ramps. So you need to give yourselves enough time to get out there.

While I agree that signage is mediocre at best, it should all be bilingual

The signage at the Montreal P-E Trudeau Airport IS both in French and English. See examples of this in the "virtual visit" at the end of this link:

I was also able to double check this myself coming back home to Montreal a few months ago.

Quebec has laws the require french to be the main or sometimes the only language on signs.

That may be true EXCEPT at Federal Gov. sites. Montreal Trudeau Airport and all other airports in Canada have signs displayed equally in both English and French.

What would the steps be for us? We are flying United from Chicago to Montreal and Air Canada from Montreal to Quebec. Any details will be appreciated.

All international flights are the same way. If your bags are checked to final destination . You'll still give it to the airline after you are done with customs.

Most airlines will have a kiosk to take your bags.
