Getaway vs RCL Oasis of the Seas

Ok, today I swapped a cruise from the NCL Getaway to RCL Oasis of the Seas. I would enjoy reading about peoples comparrisons of these two ships. I am not at all interested in the Butler, The Concierge, The Suites, who the Captian is, room comparrisons or any of that. I am more interested in a comparrison of the general public areas, shops, casino, entertainment etc and I know that there will be a lot of great CC's on here that have been on both. The itinery and the number of days was the same. Different departure ports, Miami and FLL.

Have a great day everyone, Thanks

In those areas, these 2 ships are not comparable. And yes, I have been on both. It sounds like the ship itself and what is offered onboard is your focus and for that reason, you made the right choice by switching. No other cruise ship can be compared to RCI's Oasis Class.

This is a copy of a comparison of 3 cruise lines we did previously on a RCL thread to Daghis, who compared 2 lines!

We've included Daghis's scores and ours!

Daghis great idea, thought you might like our experiences

great comparison, thought you might like to compare it to our assessment of 3 cruise lines!

We cruised the Allure(the Oasis's sister ship) a few years ago, and recently finished cruising the Getaway, and MSC Divina, so we thought we'd add our scores to yours for a 'fun' comparison!

This is how we saw it!

Entertainment (10 points)

Your scores (Getaway 9) (Allure 8)

Our scores (Getaway 9) (Allure 10) (Divina 10)

All met our needs and wants! We thought Chicago and Blue were great!

The Divina's shows are not to be missed, a lot of acrobatics, etc.!

Activities (10 points)

Your scores (Getaway 10)(Allure 10)

Our scores (Getaway 9) (Allure 9) (Divina 9)

Again, all met our needs and wants! Plenty to do on all!

Dining (10 points)

Your scores (Getaway 8) (Allure 8)

Our scores (Getaway 7) (Allure 9) (Divina 9)

Allure's score reflects better specialty rests, while Divina has the best buffet! Getaway's food was mediocre except in their specialty rests., which were good!

All MDR's just OK!

Public Venues (10 points)

Your scores (Getaway 6) (Allure 9)

Our scores (Getaway 9) (Allure 9) (Divina 10)

We like the strict no smoking policies on Divina including the casino!

Bars & Lounges (10 points)

Your scores (Getaway 6) (Allure 10)

Our scores (Getaway 9) (Allure 8) (Divina 10)

Divina's bar entertainment is the best! We like the Getaway's new concepts! RCL's is getting old for us!

Embarkation(5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 3) (Allure 5)

Our scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 4) (Divina 4)

All were good!

Disembarkation

Your scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 3)

Our scores We did self assist on all 3,

(Getaway 4) took 15 mins,

(Allure 3) took 25 mins.,

(Divina 5) took 10 mins.

All good, Divina the best!

Pre-cruise Services (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 3)

Our scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 5) (Divina 3)

To be fair, we are D+/RCL so it gives an advantage! NCL good, MSC only fair!

Helpfulness/Friendliness of Staff (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 4)

Our scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 5) (Divina 5)

All are good!

Cabin (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 3) (Allure 5)

Our scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 3) (Divina 5)

Getaway and Divina have advantage, they are newer! We like the Divina's cabin slightly more then Getaway's!

All our scores were of Balconies!

Ease of Getting Around (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 5)

Our scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 4) (Divina 4)

Allure was too crowded for us, Divina had some hallways you could get lost in, Getaway's was the easiest!

Beverage Packages(5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 5)

Our scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 4) (Divina 5)

We get access to the D lounge, and get free drinks in the casino on RCL as casino members, but the best drink pkges are on the Divina!

Onboard Informational Services (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 4)

Our scores (Getaway 3) (Allure 4) (Divina 5)

Divina has the fastest internet at the best price!

Allure's speed is better then Getaway!

Excursions (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 4)

Our scores (Getaway 5) (Allure 5) (Divina 5)]

We enjoyed all of them!

Pools and Hot Tubs (5 points)

Your scores (Getaway 3) (Allure 5)

Our scores (Getaway 4) (Allure 4) (Divina 4)

We like the salt water pools on the Getaway and Divina, and when we sailed on Allure it was fresh water! Otherwise Allure would have gotten an extra pt.!

Every morning getting into a new clean salt water pool on Divina and Getaway was great!

Final Scores

Your final scores (Getaway 79) (Allure 88)

Our final scores (Getaway 85) (Allure 86) (Divina 91)

(hope I counted right)

We usually sail free on RCL as Casino club members, and with D+ bene. its hard to admit that bigger isn't always better! Lines everywhere, thankfully we got the D+ benes.!

Actually our favorite class is the Radiance!

Our Gold benes. on Getaway couldn't swing us to favor the Getaway more with the mediocre food offerings in the buffet and MDR!

If the Getaway had better food, it would be a better choice the the Allure in our opinion! Again bigger is not better, our favorite class on NCL is the Dawn class, specifically the Pearl!

We're not Italian, but we liked the Italian Divina a lot, the food, the entertainment, the ship is beautiful, the best drink pkges., and cheap prices for their balconies! If we're forced to pay for our cruises in the future because of changes in the casino club next year, we just might change cruise lines!

But all are a good choice for a fun vacation, this is just our opinion!

Thanks Daghis for letting us give our 2 cents worth!

I have cruised both ships also. I loved the Getaway and the entertainment was wonderful. We had the Ultimate dining so it was great too. The Oasis wins though for the pool areas and how can you beat Central Park? When we were on there was a Spanish guitarist out there playing while a dozen people listened. It was great. Shopping on Oasis is better than the Getaway imo (although I do most shopping in ports). Have fun! Great ship! Can't go wrong with either one of them really! Do rememeber to reserve your shows ahead of time.

Ive been on the getaway and the Allure, which is basically the same as the Oasis.

We liked the Allure better.

1) There is just SO much more to do on the Allure. Broadway shows and every show of the night was amazing, loved the Aqua show (Saw it 2 times), The Quest, and many other game shows that are fun

2) Public areas are bigger and the layout of the ship is 100x better than the Getaway. You rarely feel crowded on the Allure, the whole ship seems open and there is a great flow to the ship. Central Park is amazingly beautiful, as well as the Boardwalk. The promenade and atrium are truly WOW.

3) Casinos are casinos to us. But the layout of the casino in the Allure is good, pretty smokey. Getaway had more penny slots, and more variety of machines.

4) FLL Port Everglades is brand new and is very nice, super easy to get on and off. Not a huge deal to us, but it IS better than MIA port.

5) I personally like the specialty dining on Getaway better, but I like the "For free" food options on RCL Allure better. Allure RCL For Fee Chops steakhouse is good, and Giovannis is OK. On NCL Getaway I had the dining package, and I liked Cagney's and LeBistro the best. If I go on NCL again, I will only eat dinner either in Cagneys or LeBistro every night. The NCL MDR food is fine, but if I am going to gain calories, I want it to be worth it.

6) PRICE! RCL is a big more expensive. ESPECIALLY Oasis class ships! We paid like...1,300pp for a Junior Suite for a week. No OBC or anything. On NCL, we paid 749pp for a aft facing balcony (these would cost ALOT on RCL), got 200.00 OBC, Dinner for 2 in a specialty restaurant, Free 4 Day Sky Cruise.
