I don't know much about it..Someone said you had to pay for it extra..are you invited, make reservations, given tickets, and also how do you dress... Thank you so much and anything else you can help me with!!!

Welcome to Cruise Critic.

You may want to ask this question on the Carnival board if no one answers your here.

On some cruise lines, it only means that on the last formal night of the cruise, there is a special menu -- lobster tails for example. No extra cost -- no reservations needed. People tend to dress nicely that evening. Each cruise line has their own dress codes.

A Captain's Dinner is just the name they give to the dinner on formal night. It's not separate, you don't get invited, you don't make reservations and there are no tickets. It's just another night in the main dining room, with the difference it's a more elegant evening. You go the same time you would if it were any other night, and if you're in traditional dining, where you're assigned a table and either early or late dining, you just to the dining room and sit at your regular table.

The term Captain's Dinner is not the same as Captain's Table.

Captain's Table is by special invitation and is a small group of guests invited

to dine with the Captain. They used to do this far more in the past than now.

We have been privileged to enjoy such evenings a number of times but for a variety of

reasons they are held far less frequently on many of the cruise lines.

This is the 2nd night of the cruise. Carnival now calls this 'Cruise Elegant Night'. It used to be formal night but now many don't dress up at all. You will see few tuxedos but some men do wear suits. Women tend to dress up more than men.

The captain and officers will be out side the lounge on deck 9 to meet passengers. Take your camera for a picture with the captain. Time will be posted in your Fun Times that will be in your cabin when you get there.

This is the night they have lobster and prime rib in the dining room order both if you want surf 'n turf!
