You won't know if it's safe until you try it, and if it's some psychopath who intends to rob you, rape you, murder you and leave your body by the side of the road, it could be a most interesting trip; this is probably not a major concern during daylight hours. What you will probably be dealing with is a perfectly safe car service driver trying to pick up an extra fare (this is slightly illegal, but very common). Even if it's perfectly safe, you need to make absolutely certain you know exactly what the price will be before you get in the car or you could be in for a very unpleasant and expensive experience; being from out of town, you will be at a disadvantage in probably not knowing the usual fare. My advice: stick to a taxi or a pre-arranged car service like Carmel or Dial 7.
