chewap Posted November 11, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2016 Just got back from Grand Turk. At least 500 Carnival lounge chairs have been removed by the locals and put in a field 600feet south of the beach. They have replaced with their own chairs -they charge between $20 to $25 for 2 chairs and a umbrella, some no bigger than a golf umbrella. Some of the chairs that were rented out were even were the nice Carnival chairs. My suggesting is to use the free blue and white Carnival owned chairs. If the ones on the beach are taken, there are plenty of chairs around the pool, with a short walk (100 Ft) to the beach,

Any ideas if Carnival Cruise Corp &/or the port authorities been advised so this can be corrected?
imluvncruzn Posted November 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2016 It was like this when we we were there the last week of September. It was terrible! That was my 7th (or so) visit to GT and I've never seen the beach set up that way.
Rare mitsugirly Posted December 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2016 So are you saying just the very end area of the beach or the entire beach right in front of the ship? In the following pictures, if you look closely, you can see the Carnival chairs lined up and down the beach. Then towards the middle, you can see where the chairs turn all blue. Those all blue are already owned by vendors and are you sure you aren't getting them mixed up with maybe thinking they belonged to Carnival in the past? The chairs are similar. We stayed in the very last row of the "free" Carnival chairs. There's a vendor there where the "charge" chairs start and they give donkey rides and stuff there. There's also a sign saying that you are leaving the cruise park center. If you are still within the cruise park area (before the sign) and one of the vendors are trying to charge you for the "free" chairs, I would find someone with authority to check this out. That is not their property and belongs to the cruise ships. No way would I pay them a cent for "exchanging" any of the chairs and trying to make money. But, just trying to figure out if maybe you had walked a little past the compound area and didn't realize it. As you can see by the chairs in the above picture, they look very similar to Carnivals, just all blue instead.
Tyhunt Posted January 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2017 we saw a few changes or last two trips here. Yes if you go past the sign you are in the vendors domain. Go past the solid blue chairs farther down the beach and a mulit colored place that was the Barefoot Cabanna is now owned by the chunknab SP? resort company and their prices went up. The very next very small place will negotiate, got two for 10$ but it is time and availability dependent after the initial rush and beer is half the price. For good food at a lower price go to the end of the beach to Jacks Shack.
chewap Posted March 1, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted March 1, 2017 Just got back on a cruise that visited Grand Turk. The situation of getting the free Carnival chair has gotten a lot worse. One of the locals that sells lounge chairs (2 and a umbrella for $25.00) has 80 lounge chairs, all stolen from Carnival in which he sprayed numbers on the back. On the day when I was there, he was taking the free Carnival lounge chairs and moving it to his area on the beach to accommodate his paying customers. I cannot understand why Carnival and the security at the beach doesn't stop this practice. This time, at least another 150 Carnival free lounge chairs were not available.
