Dining in san pedro

DW and I have eaten several times at the Green Onion Mexican Restaurant just down the street from the Crowne Plaza on 6th. Their address is 145 West 6th Street, San Pedro, CA. We find their food enjoyable and their prices reasonable.

We had a terrific meal with reasonable prices at The San Pedro Brewing Company. It is located at 331 W. 6th Street which is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel in what appeared to be a relatively safe neighborhood.

My choice would be the San Pedro Brewing Co...it's actually within a block of the CP...

Also, look for posts by Wineaux on the subject...he lives in Pedro and operates a wine shop...so he has a good handle on the subject of dining...and has a whole list of local restaurants...

We've always stayed at the Crowne Plaza before cruising (Priceline), and normally walk down to Ports' O' Call for guacamole at Acapulco's and this year we tried Nico's Pizza which was very good (it's a very short walk up from the Crowne Plaza -- we went about 5 PM and it was almost empty -- when we left @630 PM it was packed!!).

You will also read positive comments on Mishi's -- which we were going to try, but felt like pizza instead. It is on the street behind the hotel @1 block up.

There is a restaurant called Grinder's -- very reasonable and an old fashioned feel to it -- @1 block down from the hotel on the main road.

I second this. We did have a meet set up for abut 30 at the Mexican place and the night before, they said they no longer would do sep checks (I had been told they would). The Brewing company did and gave us a whole room to ourselves. Cause a bit of a scramble, since the Mexican place had done sep checks in the past and it was last minute. Also, the Mexican place had a person going table to table doing card tricks etc, and wanting tips. While he was entertaining, we were trying to talk to each other and he was persistant. Food was good in both places.

Just don't come with a pre arranged crowd, or want separate checks (that you were told in advance was fine).

If staying here and want it easy.

Walk across the street to the Green Onion.

Friendly people and good food. A lot of

the locals go here.

Are any of these restaurants "walkable" from the Doubletree San Pedro...2800 Via Cabrillo Marina?? (our pre cruise hotel).

The 22nd Street Landing restaurant (a past favourite of ours)... isn't open on Mondays so we are looking for another restaurant for "dinner"on a Monday night. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your help with the above questions.

Pat :)

They are all "theoretically" walkable...it depends on how able and willing you are to walk...

Acapulco, for example, is 1.8 miles, along the waterfront (Viaduct St./Harbor Blvd.)...San Pedro Brewing Co. Is also 1.8 miles...walk up Mesa...

Actually, they are all about 1.8 miles!! Probably, a taxi ride...or a hotel shuttle (I think the Doubletree will take you)...

When staying at the Doubletree you have your choice of 22nd Street landing and Maria's Mexican Restaurant. Good Chile Rellenos but it is one of those "Americanized" mexican places. "Gringo" Mexican. You could walk down to Ports O Call Restaurant which would be a little closer than going into Downtown. If you are going into the downtown area I would just take a cab. It would be inexpensive. You could also see if the red car is running that day and ride it to 6th street. They also run the trolley when ships are in town.

We went to 22nd street 2 weeks ago. It was OK. Expensive price but ok food. The hotel van gave us a ride and we called when we wanted to return. We all tipped him $5 each couple (three couples).

I've decided I prefer the Crown for the room as well as for the area.
