Amazing Liberty 5 Day Review with Pictures

Recommended Posts

Day 1

Started out with a great USAIR flight from LGA to FLL with a short connection in CLT. Flight was uneventful and our luggage arrived very quickly. We took a $16 taxi ride to the port. Still recovering from our Independence boarding nightmare, we were planning for the worst. Luckily the line was very short and we were through security, checked in and in our stateroom (Hump OS) in 18 mins. Funny thing - they were taking the welcome aboard picture in front of a Radiance class ship background. When I inquired the photographer said, “You’re not supposed to know that.” We both had a good laugh.

Our room was ready, HSC @ Windjammer, muster drill and we were ready for sail away #1

Shortly after sailing out of the harbor the Capt came on and said we had a medical emergency. We did a quick 180 and headed back to the dock.

This time we pulled right into Terminal 21 where the ambulance was waiting for us.

Good sign - He did give us the thumbs up while being rolled off.

20 mins later we were sailing away again. I have no idea why this house is wrapped???

Firmly back on land, we headed over to Barefoot Beach. We had requested an over the water cabana. Unfortunately, our assigned cabana was destroyed, the previous day by bad weather.

I keep saying they should rename Barefoot Beach, Swim Shoe Beach due to the rocks especially as you enter the water. The beach was much less rocky than in December but bring your swim shoes!!!!!

We love West Indian food so we asked one of the Jamaican bartenders where we should eat. He told us to go to Nazz which was walking distance from the Port. An easy 5 min walk to salted cod fish, fried dumplings and steamed cabbage.

We then walked back to the Port and took the $10 shared van to Doctor's Cave Beach. Entrance fee for 2, 2 chairs and an umbrella - $30

We enjoyed numerous Rum P's, shared a jerk chicken platter and a jerk pork platter for $59 plus tip and headed back to the ship. Another great beach day.

We always do self departure. Shout out to Carlos the Concierge who took us down the crew elevator and got us off the ship in 5 mins. But ofcourse then you have to walk to the other terminal to clear customs. That took about 25 mins

Surprisingly, we then waited 20 mins for a taxi. $16 cab ride, short TSA line and we were headed home.

As in life, no vacation is ever perfect. Mistakes always happen, but the way the mistake is corrected defines the positive or negative memory. Room service messed up our order 1 night, but quickly corrected it, our toilet stopped working at 4am in the morning, within 5 mins the tech was in our room rectifying the issue. Our TV stopped working, in 3 mins a tech was on site. 3 bad “issues” turned into great customer service experiences. Liberty continues to have a high level of service and high morale.

Food – Subjective – a few cold items in windjammer, but tasty overall.

New Menu – Love the sliders. Bring back the Vidalia Onion Tart!!!!!!

Entertainment – Tony Tillman was amazing!!!!!! So much energy The entertainer on the last night was AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (72 Font)

Cruise Director – I thought Leo Papa was by far the dullest CD I have ever seen. I can see him being the CD in Barcelona, but he is not entertaining enough to be in the US.

I still don’t understand why they don’t move Liberty and Indy to Miami. Terminal 18 is the only good terminal at Port Everglades. Terminals 25, 26, 29 are all dumps.

In my December review of our Independence of the Seas trip, I rated Indy 75% Freedom 98% and Liberty 100%. I would like to reaffirm Liberty’s 100% rating after another fantastic sailing. Liberty remains our favorite RCCL ship. (Sorry Allure)

Shout out to Carlos the Concierge, Roberto the Barefoot Beach Manager, the bar staff in the Concierge & Diamond Lounges and the bartender in Olive or Twist who made the great mudslides.

This is Ken Jarvis, and I approve this review.

Why would you say a CD would be ok for Barcelona but not entertaining enough for the U S?

Doesn't matter now... Leo Papa is no longer a Cruise Director. They announced after the Saturday Night Fever show on the last sea day (Mar 20) before getting back to Fort Lauderdale that he was leaving to return to school. He is going to Cornell to pursue his Masters in Hotel Management.

I noticed that you have been on this ship and wondered if you knew if they had several places to dance at night after dinner and the show. I mean regular dancing not just disco. We had so many places to dance on the Radiance, we hoped that this would be the same. anything I should know about this ship would be appreciated.

Thanks

I will be sailing the LOS in March 2015 and I was wondering if they have an actual sports bar? We will be going during March Madness and would like to be able to see some games. Does the Hoof & Claw pub have TV's? I am also hoping that they would show the games on the big screen outside by the pool.
