Staying in Holiday Inn Laguardia???

Has anyone stayed in the Holiday Inn Laguardia and left your car there while away on your cruise???? They offer a good deal but just wondering about how safe the area is. Any information would be appreciated.

Also has anyone used Mango Sedan car service?

I live in Queens and that area is kinda sketchy. You might want to look at something in Long Island City. I've never heard of Mango Sedan, but you can hail a cab in Queens now and have it run it's meter. It will probably be cheaper.

The area is sketchy but the Hotel is clean and has THE MOST FAB Italian Restaurant! They have a comp shuttle to/from the Arport.

I have stayed many, many times there and never had a problem (as long as you don't walk the streets late at night, it IS Queens)

As far as leaving a car, it is open and not completely secured.

Have you calculated how much it will actually save you to stay there and leave your car there? It might not be worth the hassle once you calculate the cost to park there and the cost of getting a car service into Manhattan. If you are saving under $50 I don't think it is worth it. The convenience of hopping in your car right when you get out of customs is worth something. You would also be looking at about a 45min ride to the hotel depending on traffic (and traffic is possible on weekends).

The hotel is free (points) The car is free for 7 nights and then 10.00 for the 5 extra. The port is 40.00 a day times 12 480.00. That seems high to me. We left our car there a few years back and it was not that high in price. Decisions, Decisions.

Parking for your 12 day cruise will cost $400, the maximum charge for up to 30 days, not $480.

Whether that $80 difference is enough to sway your thought process is up to you.

HI LaGuardia is located in the Corona section (neighborhood) of Queens county (borough) with a population of 2.3 million people, situated basically off the service road of the Grand Central Parkway, about 10 minutes from the airport via local streets, and about 5 or 6 city blocks to tne nearest subway station - the No.7 train a/k/a "Orient Express" Corona has a sizable Latino population of hard working folks and is mostly safe around the area during the day, and quiet at night - the area is mostly residential & the Holiday Inn is the only hotel within the immediate vicinity.

The hotel has its own indoor & underground parking so it should be relatively safe, leave all valuables out of sight & locked it up. (Google Map & Street View to see for yourself) There isn't much, if anything, in that area even walking toward the subway - except for a few local deli stores & coffee shop, laundrymat and a # of car repair shops. Forget about dinner or fast food nearby - pizza & cold cut sandwiches would be fine or Chinese takeout delivery, so better eat elsewhere first or on your way into Manhattan to sightsee. Not so sure about a fine Italian place but definitely plenty of good Latino food specials, IMO.

It's perfectly safe to walk at night in many section of Queens, including Flushing's Main Street in & around the No.7 subway & LIRR train station, plenty of (Asian) restaurants open late, some as late as 2 AM. The McD & Burger King is open 24/7 with window service. The area around the HI LaGuardia should be the same as walking around late in Long Island City, Astoria or Woodside - use your urban street-wise common sense, just like most cities in the US and most ports frequented by cruisers.

FYI - parking at the MCT http://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/ And, for car service - Flyertalk & CC's here prefer Dial7 and Carmel, both reliable & reasonable rates with large fleet of cars & minivans citywide, and, one of their garage/base is near LGA. Well ... it's your money to spend, of course.
