Would love to know which areas of Mercury indoors permit smoking ? We know about the Cabins and Verandas being off limits but it does show that there are some areas that will permit smoking but have never seen any lists. Anyone ?

We returned yesterday from 14 days on the Millennium with the OLD SMOKING policy, but I can tell you that it appears on the Millennium class ships, there will be NO SMOKING any more on the aft of the 10th deck outside the Ocean Grill as they were removing all the ashtrays as we left the ship on Monday and commenting about it being the last smoking day out there.

Before we cancelled our cruise we asked this question and x told us only smoking areas on all ships were to be the disco and one slot area in the casino. Needless to say - we cancelled.

I found the following in Celebrity's April 10, 2008 Press Release and though it might be of some help until we hear from folks cruising now.

"Designated indoor areas where guests can smoke cigarettes include the port side of one lounge per ship and a designated slot machine area in each ship's casino. The new policy also designates outdoor areas where guests can smoke. These include the port side of the pool deck and sundecks on each ship, the port side of the Sunset Bar on Celebrity Century and on Celebrity's Millennium class of ships, and the port side aft outside of Winter Garden on Celebrity Galaxy and Celebrity Mercury. Celebrity's new Solstice class of ships, launching with Celebrity Solstice late this year, will follow the new policy beginning with the first sailing. Celebrity Solstice's Lawn Club and the Sunset Bar at the Lawn Club will not allow smoking. Violations to Celebrity's smoking policy may result in a $250 cleaning fee charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through the line's guest conduct policy."

We were on the mercury from 9/29 thru 10/3. The new smoking policy went ino effect the night of the 1st. The only place I could find for smoking was the casino and outside. It was very strange you could smoke before dinner in the bar than after dinner they had no smoking signs and did not allow smoking. I am a smoker and respect the new policy as long as they have one place to have a cigerette and a drink.

Mercury indoor smoking locations are port side of Navigator Lounge (tables by windows) and port side slots in the casino (no tables) Outside locations are deck 11 port side pool and aft deck. Did see lots more cigar smokers on the aft deck and at all hours of the day. Unfortunately, some of them were those really cheap bad ones.

It generally appeared that the policy was being followed. Saw one case where a couple came out on deck with ship personnel who pointed to a table. They then sat down and he lit a cigarette. Don't know if he asked or if he lit up in a non-smoking area.

As to it making a difference, I only really noticed it in the casino but I'm not all that sensitive to smoke.

When they announced the new policy, they made it very clear that there would only be two indoor locations (a slot section of the casino and one side of another lounge) plus limited outdoor areas. This should come as no surprise, and should apply to all Celebrity ships, regardless of class.

Yes, I am aware of this as I posted the press release saying as much earlier in the thread. Perhaps I should have stated my question more clearly ... on the Millennium class ships, which lounge allows smoking?

What about cigars? esp on Solstice & Connie (our next ships)

DH can enjoy them in ports if they are banned on board...but has enjoyed them with a brandy on Royal Carib ships--they have a lounge for this after a cetain hour that has a huge air cleaner--it is amazing!

I'm very interested in this too - more specifically I'd like to know if anyone has experienced a change in the smoking for the "Champagne bar" on the starboard side of the Martini Bar. We'd love to see that change to non-smoking. We've been on so many cruises where the Martini Bar is so busy before dinner it is hard to get a seat while the smoking side, the Champagne bar, is half empty due to the smokey conditions. So has anyone seen a change in this area, or lack of one, on a ship under the new policy?

I have been on a lot of cruises on the millenium class ships and the Champagne bar on the starboard side has always had a good amount of people if you want the no smoking area I would suggest you get to the bar earlier, since this area is a big money maker for Celebrity I do not think they will make this whole area non smoking if they do it will hurt them in the pocket book.
