  1. You could ask your hotel to book you a table there. You never know... Look up the other beach restaurants on Google maps and see what they offer. This is a very high end area and the food and amenities are all bound to be good.
  2. If you have time, get the extra cash there at an ATM instead of bringing a lot more with you. You will get better rates.
  3. I would have 200-300 € and use the ATMs if you need more. Do use credit cards as much as you can (charging always in euros, never in dollars), but it is always good to have some cash.
  4. You could also book Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina, try to get the wine cellar. Most restaurants in Amalfi are within the city, but there are a few on the beach, some with beach amenities. The Marina Grande is right on the beach and it is quite good. If you go during the day the also have beach chairs that you can reserve and have lunch and drinks there. The pizza in Amalfi is also very good, same as Naples.
  5. None of the restaurants in Old Nice are on the water. If you want a water view and very upscale, try Le Patio at the Hotel La Perouse, just on the edge of Old Nice. The old port does have a number of restaurants on the water. Further down the Promenade on the "new" section, there is Le Chantecler at the Negresco Hotel for a true upscale experience. For real niçoise food by a master chef (Dominic Le Stanc who had 2 Michelin stars at Le Chantecler), try La Merenda in Old Nice - but no view and casual.
  6. Two elevators and air conditioning. The rooftop bar is lovely.
  7. The port is tiny. Go up this thread for photos. Look at my post #236. You can see the entire port at the bottom of the path.
  8. There may or may not be water taxis to Oia. What's there is more of a water bus. It's a larger boat that they wait to fill up before they leave. It includes a bus ride up to Oia and a bus ticket from Oia to Fira.
  9. Yes, lots of them. All types and prices.
  10. Fabulous location. Great choice. Walking distance to Gaudi masterpieces on Passeig de Gracia and to Plaza Catalunya.
  11. Yes, Sounion. A beautiful temple in a gorgeous setting by the sea. Not much else there, but there are beaches and tavernas on the way. If you are still allowed in the ruins, you can see Lord Byron's graffiti carved on a column. It is also the place where Aegeus jumped into the sea which was named after him. The last time we were there we were actually staying at the airport Sofitel. We had arrived in the afternoon and had a very early morning flight to the islands. We had George's pick us up, go to Sounion, had dinner by the beach, watched the sunset and back to the hotel.
  12. You could book a transfer with georgestaxi.com and have them drive you to Sounion and then to the airport. You can include lunch at a beach taverna. Four hours are plenty of time for all of that.
