Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Thanks. Understand the official communication, but in reality some of the Royal class ships have offered it as a suite perk for their specific ship. I know this as I have experienced it myself. It would be great for someone that has been in a suite on Sun to confirm.
  2. Hi! Does anyone know whether the Enclave is included (no charge) for suites on Sun Princess please? On some Royal Class ships it is
  3. We were on that sailing - it was confirmed that there was an AC fault that impacted various parts of the ship. One night the MDR had no aircon - it was like a sauna. I understand a number of people had stateroom changes as it was unbearable Absolutely was not an intentional turning off of the AC
  4. Have used the Enclave a number of times on Royal Class ships, always happy to pay for the pass and generally use it 1 or 2 times a day. Love the hydrotherapy pool and the scented showers. Last time was a Trans Pacific 21 day sailing on Royal Princess in Sep last year. @JamieLogical have been following a few of your threads over at MSC (thank you btw, they made a huge difference to us to help navigate the new experience) We did our first cruise on MSC in Jan on the Meraviglia. We were in YC and had free access to the thermal pool area. We only went once over a 9 day sailing. Didn't like the hydrotherapy pools on that ship, too shallow and way way busier. We are basically 'hot water tourists' and would choose to live in a hot tub if I could. We did try and go back a second time to see if the experience was better, but then they were doing maintenance and had closed most of it. The Enclave is a lot better than the Aurea Thermal Area IMHO
  5. I live in Auckland, NZs largest city - the most we ever get around tipping is a rare glass jar that sits on the cashier counter - but is never spoken or referred to. And occasionally the EFTPOS machine may indicate a tip is possible - and in most cases the cashier apologises for it and advises how to skip it. Case in point - how are gratuities managed in the Australian and NZ cruise market? Not against anyone that willingly wants to tip - go for gold. But when the requirement/expectation to tip is part of the culture then that's a different story. No thanks to that coming down under!!!
  6. As a New Zealander, the practice of tipping is completely foreign to us. I find the only place in the world where this becomes a big thing to have to manage is America - and it's not just a small brief thing - it's a thing that takes far more cognitive effort than is really necessary. What is it now for mediocre service - 22%. Ouch, something not quite right there. How about we resolve on this board to fix this once and for all - if you are a business manager let's just ensure everyone has a living wage and don't require our staff to professionally beg. It'll be super duper easy to fix I hope 😉
  7. Everyone is an expert on the interwebs hahahaha
  8. Currently on the Diamond Princess - it's Coke Zero Sugar in cans. The app shows Diet Coke but it's Zero that then turns up. Very happy!
  9. Absolutely! If your holiday happiness is contingent on what someone is wearing then it could well be quite the rollercoaster! It's similar to when I hold my DB's hand walking around the ship. Particularly the boomers give some good glares - two men holding hands, shock!!! If I flip it the other way, should I stop doing something that has no physical impact on others but makes me happy in order to help a complete stranger feel more secure about their prejudices? Absolutely not!
  10. Am really loving all this news - have 2 cruises booked on Sun and it's very exciting! Thanks everyone for putting up all these tidbits! It's going to be time consuming trying to keep up with all the early reviews next year haha!
  11. Sigh, this is probably the sad underbelly of cruising - where the subtle, and not so subtle judging and opining goes on. And it plays out on the forums as well - OP asks a question, people reply with their answers - generally through own experiences, and then the judgement starts after a bit - put downs, one ups, passive aggressive statements. It isn't pleasant:( It's like the TV show The Gilded Age - instead we are on a ship, and it's modern day haha. Love, live and let live. Some of the happiest times in my cruises is when I meet people and we take each other as they are and have an opportunity to share a lovely human connection. Wish it could always be like this!
  12. Just recently did this myself. You can purchase on the App - it's under Profile > Journey Account > Packages. (hopefully that is the right place, my App is not working right now) You sign up there for both in the cabin, goes to your shipboard account like any other purchases. Benefits to doing this is that you don't have to buy it early as part of the cruise, and any OBC you have can go toward it. @Tedferg - good point about checking in case it doesn't activate immediately. In our case we purchased the package and then got a drink 10 mins later and it was all working - but YMMV so best to check. If there are any charges you can just message in the App and they will sort
  13. Spot on!! And some people choose to wear "augmented hair" haha, and on a cruise just can't be bothered to put it on just for a dinner, to then be removed to go in the pool/hot tub later. So a baseball cap is so much easier - and that's exactly what a cruise is all about! It just illustrates that point that we never really know the full story of what is going on for a stranger. So my advice - the Judgy Judy's can just head back to their room and cry in their toilet over how upset they are about how others dress lol
  14. As mostly everyone has said, go with what you feel comfortable with in public. Just be aware that there are people onboard that love to judge others. Just got back from a 23 day cruise and found it very interesting that one couple needed to comment to the maître d' about our standard of dress (we wear plain black baseball caps). Very sad that their enjoyment of their meal was contingent on what we wore. Even a comment earlier in this thread 'I don't like to see jeans'. Some people are never going to be happy - maybe owning their own yacht is the best way of controlling every aspect of their experience 😉
