  1. Morning all,

Bright and sunny down here and although a cool 8c at present expected to rise to 15c.

Need to post some birthday card to friends I was at school with and a trip out to Penzance to get some shopping, but nothing else planned. Although one of my daughter's and I were discussing, a few weeks ago, about having a BBQ if the bank holiday weekend was nice, but will see!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend, whatever you have planned.

I'm envious of those of you with sparse brows, I'm constantly trying to tame mine. I have mine waxed but my skin is sensitive and I have red lines above and below my brows for 24 hours after each waxing 😏

My mum was in hospital this week having a spine decompression and disc removal op and dad stayed near the hospital which was over an hour away so I stayed at theirs and looked after their pampered cats. Having nothing to do for 3 days was very strange but I actually managed to  finish compiling a photo book of our Canaries Cruise last summer, just in time with only 4 weeks until our Norway cruise later this month ☺️

    Wishing your Mum well.

  3. Morning everyone,

Partly cloudy here but expected to be sunny and reaching 14c.

Had a really enjoyable evening at the theatre yesterday. Caught an earlier train than planned, therefore arriving at the theatre early. Not a problem as plenty of seats to choose in the foyer and spent the extra time with a couple of drinks before the show.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Cloudy here too, no thunder though. Off to Truro this afternoon for a cystoscopy (joy) already had an ultra sound all clear kidneys etc, no symptoms, but blood showing in urine when tested,😩. Watched Queen Anne come in on the IW webcams, not quite the same as rushing to Cowes after work like we did for Oriana with my Mum, but still exciting. Have a good day everyone.

    Wishing you well.

  5. My mother's letter was more about the terms and conditions.

If I had had access to the internet in the terminal I would have been able to show/prove to them that the required paperwork had been sent, and the corresponding correspondence.

Since then everything is done online before sailing on 'My P&O'. After that incidence I have printed off the filled in form and taken it with me should there be any discrepancy! Once bitten, twice shy, as they say.

  6. We had a problem when we were boarding Britannia last September. This was before the online system and I filled in and emailed off the required form. I had sent an old form and needed to submit the newer version, which I duly did and informed them at the same time of my mother's allergy. I received a reply acknowledging my mother's allergy, so I know they had received the email.

Come to board in Southampton they denied all knowlegde of her request for assistance, and they were quite nasty, almost accusing us of lying, which upset my mother. She was also given a letter stating that if assistance isn't booked in advance it would be denied. On arrival in our cabin there was another letter with regard to her allergy.

So somewhere along the way they had lost half of the information!

I did wonder after the cruise if they had listed my name for assistance instead of my mother's.

I was going to complain on her behalf, but became illl after returning.

I now take a hard copy of any forms that I have email/filled in as proof.

We boarded last Friday 26th. There was absolutely no chance of jumping the queue, but we have since found out there was a problem with the air bridge and the passengers from the coaches etc were waiting inside.

They did say they always try get people through ASAP but we saw people waiting from before 12 for 3.30 boarding...

By all means try, but just be prepared to wait outside, standing up.

    Andy

There was a problem with one of the air bridges when we boarded on the 31st March too!

They were both in use when we disembarked a fortnight later, though.

  9. Forecast is for rain today, but looking out of the window it is quite bright, but overcast, windy and dry.

Seagulls are becoming a nuisance again.  My son went out yesterday and left his bedroom window open and a packet of sweets on the windowsill. He came back and found to find a gull on the kitchen roof below his room trying to get into the packet! 🙄

A trip to Tesco is on the cards for me this morning, to stock up on wine as they have 25% off six bottles or more plus my 15% discount.  "Every little helps" as they say!

    Have a good day.

I think that they were. In context, you have to remember that at the time Ocean Village were launched the cruise business was radically different than it is today. Fixed time (ie, club) dining was usually the only option at dinner; the buffet was only open for lunch and breakfast. A three tier dress code applied in the evening throughout the ship; casual (ie smart casual) informal (jackets and ties for men) and formal (black tie). Against this background, a cruise line which offered flexible dining with no formal dress code was a radical departure. Nowadays of course, it does not appear as radical as most cruise lines have adopted parts of the Ocean Village modus operandum.

Our first cruise was with Ocen Village. We took my parents for their 50th wedding anniversay and it was chosen as my father wouldn't entertain getting dressed up for dinner.

One of there tag lines was "there's a place for the dinner jacket - at home in the wardrobe".
