  1. It is a common misconception that batteries require rare earth metals. This has come about due to lithium batteries being used in vehicles where compactness and mobility are required. There have been many advances in other types of energy storage. One type of battery is what is known as a solar flow battery using zinc bromine. These two minerals are common, cheap, fire safe (very important) and recyclable and are powering small towns, homes, and mobile phone towers in remote areas. Perhaps they may provide solar energy storage for ships of the future. Who knows? There is an Australian company producing these. https://redflow.com/
  2. That's the answer I wanted. Your turn
  3. Thank you for the NZ connection. Next pic.
  4. We used to build models of battleships when we were kids and knew many of the parts and functions of warships. The Graf Spee and Bismark and the HMS Hood were among the most popular models. It is a range finder from the Graf Spee which was scuttled off S America in WW2. It is in Motevideo. More info for history buffs.
  5. Trying not to scuttle this but it's too late.
  6. Correct. Your turn The answer was right there on the left. It's a great spot for sunsets. A few posts ago there was a request(?) for pretty pictures. Here's another.
  7. No worries. Had to go to a meeting tonight, just got home. Looking for a pic now. Name this lake.
  8. That's all I've got. It just looked a little familiar from when I was down that way two years ago on a motorcycle tour.
  9. Hmm. New Holland? Ship is Nieuw Amsterdam. Yes, it is in Skagway. Your turn.
  10. Not Whittier. Bonus point for naming ship.
  11. The reward for good service is their job. If they give over and above what is expected then mention them by name in post cruise reviews. This is how they get promotions.
  12. I recognised this immediately. I had to go looking for its name. IIRC, a beautiful spot but with a very sad, dismal history. Sarah Island near Strachan?
  13. Place of Yellow Footed Rock Wallabies?😁
  14. Dad bought his brand new in 1964. It was the first new car he ever owned. The day he bought it he picked me up after school, I was waiting in the queue for the bus to go home. I thought "Wow". I have always thought the EH was the best ever Holden. A few years later he traded it in for the worst ever - a HD.
  15. My dad had one too. EH 179 wagon.
