I'm just north of SYD and sun is just rising now 0610.

1. I made a similar flight from Vancouver to Sydney last year, departing YVR at 2130 and arriving SYD about 0630. It was and all night flight which is IMO the best way to fly that route. BTW jet lag has a lesser effect flying east to west IMO. Whether it is dark or not on arrival will depend on time of year but most likely it will be light except for mid winter - June. 2. It depends. I'm a 6'1" 74 y.o. and was hestitant about my comfort but I was unable to to secure an upgrade. It was a Qantas flight and my previous Qantas flight was SNG/SYD earlier that year - it was my worst ever international economy class flight. However, as it turned out, the YVR/SYD was my most comfortable international, economy class, flight ever. I was able to stretch my legs out fully under the aisle seat in front where previously (SNG/SYD) my legs spent most of the time in the aisle. I'm not sure what the aircraft was but I think it was a 787-9 Dreamliner. If you have trouble sleeping on long haul flights and can afford premium or business, go for it. I have flown SYD/DFW business class and very glad I did. IIRC it was about 15.5 hours. I was lucky with that one by scoring a AUD650 upgrade at SYD check in.

A few years back I renovated a house with no kitchen plumbing or sink. It was built in 1914. The kitchen had a 1927 Early Kooka gas stove, (still working) as well as fuel stove . Washing up was done in a tub on the kitchen table with water brought in from the laundry.

Thanks Lyle. I know the feeling of recycling photos. When I go through my files I see a nice photo, then I have to think hard as to whether I have used it previously like this next one. I may have used it before but here goes. It's a gun on a hill. Bonus point for the name of the hill.

My Scottish grandfather came from a long line (no pun intent) of North Sea whitefishers. I'm not sure how far back, at least the 1600s from research so far. Perhaps that's why I feel comfortable at sea, especially when there's a decent swell. On my mothers side it's almost all Dorset centric.

I've also noticed that. Same with honey. I also have not bought sugar in a long long time. I have a sugar bowl with some raw sugar (bought years ago) for guests who have it in tea or coffee. Some years ago on a HAL cruise, in Canaletto, we were offered a tray of condiments. The waitress mentioned it included organic salt!

Yesterday, a once in a decade event occured when shopping for groceries - I bought some salt😱. Yes, it takes me about 10 years to get through a 750g cellar of salt. I only use it for putting in water when boiling pasta and to put on chips. We gave up cooking veges in salted water in the early 70s when we bought our first microwave oven.
