  1. We cruised the Rhine mid Oct 2015 and it was still fairly green.
  2. Looking at the Covid numbers still out of control in Europe, I'm getting less and less optimistic about our Bergen to Barcelona October cruise actually sailing... our National WWII museum land tour scheduled for August (Germany, France & Poland was cancelled this morning. 😞
  3. The deviation fee is for the flight. Be aware the transfer to Munich may be VERY early in the morning - like 4 am? You may be better off to take the train from Passau to Munich, unless you really have a reason to take the transfer. I believe transfers can be purchased separately ( at least they used to be available).
  4. I received a call from Viking this afternoon, responding to my email of last night. Again, as with others, it was an extended conversation with the rep. I did ask him specifically why Viking would not commit to requiring all pax and crew to be vaccinated and he said " we are still working to refine and develop our health and safety policies". I told him that we would not be interested in cruising unless that vaccinations were required, and asked him if any another Viking clients had expressed the same reservations and said that they had been hearing from a number of past guests.
  5. I've sent my email to Tellus strongly urging Viking to require vaccinations for all pax and crew!
  6. Yes, it was one of the last non longship Viking river boats to sail. It was quite the farewell trip...I had never been on any type of cruise and was leery of the whole group travel idea, but this hooked us on Viking. If you are interested, this is what it looked likehttps://www.rivercruiseadvisor.com/cruise-companies/viking-river-cruises/viking-sun/
  7. So sad to see... Our first river cruise was the last roundtrip the Viking Sun made on the Rhine (not a longship) before the name was transferred to the Ocean side, and our first Viking Ocean (Homelands) was on the Sun.
  8. A Viking supervisor called me late morning - all is well 🙂 He called me an and then got my TA on the line as well. He pulled up account to figure out what the problem was. Firstly, he assured me by booking was safe and secure - and then mentioned that Viking will not cancel a booking without notifying pax first. Asked him to confirm card # on file and it was correct. Then... he looked to see what card was attempted. Turns out the card was from when we had originally booked trip on board in 2018 - a trip that cancelled due to Covid last fall and rescheduled. So b
  9. Heard nothing from Viking yet... 🙁 But my booking is still showing up in MVJ - which is a good thing, I guess??? I sent email immediately after receiving the info from @Little Monty(Thank you again for replying so quickly!)
  10. I need some Cruise Critic help please.... Booked a 2023 trip (actually rebooked from cancelled cruise) in Feb. Got an email confirming booking and also confirming I was allowing Viking to keep my CC on file for future payments. Oct 21 trip final booking was due last Wed. TA got the email from Viking saying payment was processed. Checked my Amex a day or so later and it still was not charged.. thought well, they are a bit crazy busy, give them a couple days. Checked MVJ - trip is still there. Today I tried to contact them because it still had not hit the
  11. If you are comfortable with your own luggage, you can save quite a bit of $$$ and have possibly an even better experience. Oslo is very easy to navigate and very english language friendly The airport express train runs directly to the main train station. You can purchase tickets ahead of time on the internet for both the airport train and the train to Bergen. We stayed at the Thone Opera Hotel (which is what Viking uses on a regular basis) which is literally across the street from the station. We used the hop on hop off buses and boats to tour Oslo. The direct train to Bergen le
  12. In 2018 on our Rhine cruise, We had to be out of the stateroom and have luggage collected no later than 9 am when we disembarked in Basel, but we were allowed to stay in the the public areas and even invited to enjoy the buffet lunch in the lounge as our taxi to airport did not pick us up until 1pm.
  13. We enjoyed the Nobel museum very much, we had not planned to visit, stumbled upon it and am glad we did! We probably spent 2 hours there, could have spent longer...but they wanted to close 🙂.
  14. Yes it must be requested when you book. They will not offer it , and when we recently rebooked a cancelled cruise I requested it and the agent was unaware of the option. She had to check with her supervisor. So you need to double check your booking to confirm the final payment date , because once you make your deposit, its to late.
