  1. Actually, the longer walk is another plus for me - I get extra steps and every one counts! Of course, I also almost never use the elevators - I look for every way I can to burn off all those extra calories from stuffing my face the whole cruise

Thank you! I was feeling the same and wondering why so many complained about the long walks. We walk all over the ship and ONLY use the stairs. We love to get that extra activity in on our cruises. [emoji848][emoji848][emoji848]

  2. We enjoyed both sailings but I liked leaving from NYC more because you were in Bermuda Wednesday-Friday. The Boston sailing arrives Sunday afternoon, and there's not a lot going on in Bermuda on Sundays. We also loved the Escape! The Boston cruises have had the Dawn, which we liked but it doesn't have as much to do on sea days. I believe next summer, the Gem will be sailing from Boston but I don't know much about that ship. Of course, Boston was a lot more convenient of a port for us! Either cruise will be amazing!

Thank you! Appreciate all your assistance in your review and answering many of all of our questions!

  3. Thank you for this recap... My husband and I are almost mirroring so much of your trip it seems (we sail 7/15 for our honeymoon)... We are taking the Amtrak from South Station, but on Sunday and heading right to the ship. We chose this sailing since we had already done the Boston sailing as well. I am still planning our return home,

Thank you for all the pics and menus and dailies.... you sound like a great couple to sail with!

Looking at booking a Bermuda cruise and would be interested in hearing the difference in a Boston sailing vs NY! Happy Honeymoon!!! ❤️

  4. Aarp removes ecards on weekends and adds them back on weekdays just a heads up

I had NO this happened, but found out it sure does this past weekend. Another heads up is we ended up purchasing a $500 gift card (not the electronic version) and the envelope came damaged with no card in it!!!!! Luckily UPS at our location received it hat way and will be sending info to AARP. We are out the gift card and the money until the investigation is complete. I will never do anything but e-gift cards in the future.

  5. My last physical gift card from AARP took two weeks to get here. Don't blame AARP for poor planning.

Yes,unfortunately it’s our daughter that waited until the last minute. We got ours. Fortunate, they came back online so we just got more. Always have more cruises to use the one coming in the mail!

  6. From our first cruise (Honeymoon in 2005) and onward my wife and I stay connected only to each other. After sail away we head to our cabin, power our phones down and in the safe they go until we return to Debark. It is such an amazing break from "real life" and we look forward to it very much. Anyone else completely shut off "real life" when you cruise?

And that’s why we cruise!!!!! Love being completely off grid, relaxed and without the hustles or traffic, emails, phones and social media!

  7. Who's watching your mail. Have them open the GC and send you the numbers.

Part of the GC was to pay for the Cheers package. It may arrive too late. I'm hoping a friend can get one via her Insurance Company today as they offer them too. Thanks a lot AARP!

  8. Thanks, I tried yesterday afternoon and they were only showing the $100 cards available by regular mail. This morning both $500 and $100 email cards were available. Was able to order what I needed!

Tried for one today and they are back to UNAVAILABLE for the eGift cards! Tried to get one for my daughter and they are only available via mail. We leave in a week and I'm scared to take the risk. :o

  9. Oh i have noticed. The price hikes are OVER THE TOP. We paid 749 dollars per person on our last Transatlantic for a mid ship balcony but now the average is over 1300 dollars. We are now booked on this year transatlantic on the Breakaway from Denmark to New York and we are paying over 3000 dollars for 2 people,we are keeping our options open and we may cancel, maybe even go on another cruise line.

I just looked again and the same destination and itinerary we took last November is $500 more this next November. The only difference is the ship because NCL changes ships for NOLA.

  10. Been a lengthy thread on high prices just recently. However, you can never book too early (assuming you are willing to pay a current price) , because you can always cancel if you change your mind or you can get a lower price if one occurs later, before final payment is due.

I didn’t see that thread and will have to search for it. Very true on booking now and just watching prices. I do that usually, but was quite surprised at the current NCL prices lately.

  11. Hi all

Has anyone been on a cruise so far this year or Late 2017 (like Dec) who has a current drink menu with prices. I have seen a few that are older Just wondering if there is a more up to date price list from all the bars

    Thanks

    Lynn

We just got off the Carnival Fantasy and WISHED we would have taken some photos of the drink menus. We didn't becuase we had the drink package. The next time we think we may NOT do the drink package and just pay as you go. The drink packages have gotten so high it's almost not worth it unless you begin drinking first thing and don't stop until you go to sleep.

  12. Every ship is different as are people’s experiences. We were on the NCL Dawn last year for 9 Days and had a blast. Hated the trip was ending. This year we cruised the NCL Pearl for 9 Days and by day 7 we were ready to leave. It was mostly due to the lack of decent musicians and things to do around ship in the evening. The staff wasn’t nearly as friendly to us as the Dawn. We still enjoyed our time (as we always do cruising), but the Pearl could have been a 7 Days vs longer for us. Enjoy!

  13. After many cruises, last year I finally bought the deluxe drink package and thoroughly enjoyed not having to worry about the “final bill”. My husband bought the refreshment package (he doesn’t drink) and he too enjoyed it.

This year I am traveling with my mother who is Diamond Plus and benefits from the Diamond Lounge. She does not drink due to a medical issue.

I have been looking forward to repeating the pleasure of paying for my package up front and just relaxing and enjoying my cruise with a morning espresso, fresh juice, a drink or two by the pool, pre-diner drinks, wine with dinner... well you get it!

I was shocked today when I was told that as my mother is not interested in a drink package of any kind I could not benefit from a drink package. What can I say, they don’t want my money.

I understand that Royal probably deals with people “generously” sharing their drink package with those around them... and I believe they are probably the same people who get up at 5am and put a towel and a library book on a lounge chair and then go back to bed... but was this the only solution?

The few have ruined it for the many.

Or put another way- the honest pay the price for those who aren’t.

Royal Caribbean instead of addressing the issue with those who cause the problem- instead of the bartenders being more aware and barring customers who “share”- have adopted a draconian solution to solve the problem- or maybe just to make more money by forcing people who don’t want a package to buy one.

Unfortunately this customer is very disappointed. I used to love cruising because it was effortless, I’m starting to abandon that premise.

    Disappointed.

I thought I read somewhere that if there is a medical issue referenced with a doctors note you could buy on the ship for just you. Call and ask about that.
