  1. PVP- Personal Vacation Planner

I believe these offers have something to do with the casino, if you play/spend a certain amount of money the casino gives offers, for instance, on our last Carnival cruise my other half received a "bounce back offer" where they offered us a free interior cabin to be taken within three months....so people such as him and others who earn the free drinks on us card and such received these offers.

Lol! Makes seance now why I wouldn't know what a PVP was! I don't gamble!!!! [emoji12]

  2. Both 500 and 100 AARP Carnival gift cards are available now.

We just got some for ourselves. Question for you - when we use them and there is a balance, will it stay on our account to be used for gratuities at the end of the cruise?

  3. Thank you both for the details! It sounds do-able, but will definitely check it out the night before. We will have luggage but it's all rolling suitcases so I'm thinking it will be okay. The other option is for maybe 4 of us to walk, and 2 can go in a cab with the luggage, this way cab will cost only $16 instead of $48.

I think you will find it's not that bad at all. We would do it again in a heartbeat. We did have an short escalator to go on, but no stairs as there was an elevator we found.

  4. So after reading all these posts, we booked pre-cruise (Carnival Dream) at Hilton Riverside. We cruise in 6 days. My husband was speaking with the Hilton Riverside concierge on the phone, and he was saying that the "logistics" of the walk are very difficult and we are better off taking a cab. We are 6 people (2 adults, kids age 6,10,14,17) and will have luggage, of course, but we are also New Yorkers and used to walking :) It seems crazy to pay $50 for a 5-minute cab ride. So - can anyone be specific about what the walk entails between the hotel and Carnival cruise terminal, just to set my mind at ease? Thanks.

When we walked it with just the two of us (56 and 58 years old in healthy condition and used to walking) we were fine! Actually it wasn't bad at all. We had one wheeled piece of luggage and a carry on (not super light) and it was fine. We chose to take the walk the night before to check it out prior. If you have time to do that I would. Otherwise I would highly recommend giving it a chance to save the $50! Especially if you don't travel with heavy luggage and you have plenty of help with the teens.

  5. They are in the middle of the dessert buffet , on the outer area of the Garden Buffet. Look for them in the evening service.

Ahhhh! We never go to the Garden Cafe during the evening hours. That's why we couldn't find them. That will change now as I love a good crepe and want to try them next time.

  6. I am pretty sure there are cameras in the luggage check areas. They would be

OP, my suggestions are to go to the liquor tasting, order less expensive drinks...a Midori sour is less than $6 whereas a martini will be about $10. Drink when OFF of the ship and get the 10% off gift cards, apply them to your on board account and tada! Every drink is discounted!

THANK YOU for some other great ideas!

  7. I have a life threatening peanut allergy and I feel so much safer on a ship than up in the air on an airplane. I always share my allergy with the Maitre D' and even my travel agent puts it on my profile. Well it's not perfect and I had an issue with a salad having small crushed peanuts that even I thought were sesame seeds (until I put them in my mouth and the alarms went off). The medical staff was amazing!!!!!!! The entire crew to include the chef was also amazing the rest of the cruise.

  8. It'll be my first cruise so I don't have a tradition, but my tentative plan is to go to the pool and stake out some chairs, and then send the husband off to the grill for some lunch retrieval. Would that work?

Absolutely!!!!! I think you will find some do the same thing. On embarkation day so many come to the ship at different times you shouldn't have a problem finding pool chairs.

  9. We had a cabin on Empress under the galley. There was the clanging of pots and pans all night. Luckily, we were very tired. It was relatively quiet on the Riviera deck.

Thank you for sharing! For 5 days we chose the safe bet, the Riviera.

  10. Friend of mine works in security on the pier and one of his duties is luggage inspection....during their spot checks, he runs across rum runners. He doesn't take them, he simply slices them then closes the bag back up and on its way it goes. The owner gets to spend the first evening doing laundry and hopefully learns a valuable lesson

I have absolutely NO desire to do something illegal or simply not right! I would pay full price all day long on any drink before something like this. That's why I said in my initial post, NOT Fraudulent!

  11. Well don't listen to this guy. I'm sure he's lots of fun at church but you are on a cruise.

If you are not getting Cheers, there is not many ways to save on a cruise but

buy a bucket of beer will save a couple of bucks

drink while you are in port, depending on the port it will be a lot cheaper

Art auction - I think they give out champagne but have never been

These are some of the non smuggling ways to get a little bit more. Enjoy your cruise.

Thank you! We do buy the buckets of beer and save a couple for another day (small fridge is quite beneficial in the rooms). Forgot about the crazy art auctions. I've been stung (purchased) before so I usually stay clear of them now. [emoji51]

  12. Other than booking the Steakhouse the 1st night for a free bottle of wine and using your free drink coupon on the last night of the cruise (depending on your status), you pretty much summed it up.

Is it best to book for the first night before the cruise or when you get initially get on board?

AHHHH! I tell people about this and completely forgot about it for us! Thank you! Knew I posted this for a reason.

  14. We have a small group heading out on a quick 5 day trip on the Carnival Fantasy. Question regarding the Riviera deck vs the Empress deck. I can move to the higher deck for a small price, buts it appears right under the gal,eye and dining area. I can figure out what's below the Riviera so I'm guessing its staff rooms. Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts regarding either deck?

  15. We've been on a 9 day cruise and friends on a 10 day and both had different shows throughout. At times new entertainers get picked up at various ports so it's not always the same. Everyday there is something to do, and of course relaxing is always a must for us!
