So I just looked out of curiosity the price of a 1A cabin on Celebrity Eclipse October 2017 Transatlantic sailing.
Cost is $4100 = Almost £2,900
I always thought booking early was the way to go but when you see this kind of price I wonder?
That pricing is terrible. WAIT !! Especially on TA's
For example, realize it's 2 years ago (only 2 years ago October 2013), I paid for a 15 night Celebrity Reflection Transatlantic Balcony $1049 which also included $425 on board credit. Was not in final payment, it was 90 days out.
Of course the naysayers will say.....!! "yes but you paid through the nose on airfare". Booked through Choice Air, ....... Phoenix to Rome, $560 :)

Also, any suggestions as to the best month to take the cruise
We have cruised Alaska the last 3 summers and love it. :)
Weather can be unpredictable. However, my recommendation would be to avoid May or September, it's call the shoulder season, as in, the rain rolls down your shoulders. :D
Premium weather/temperature window is June 20 thru August 10

Reviews are personal and the reason I never read them. Like to experience things for myself without forming a view beforehand.
So my answer to the OP's question is ........., NO I couldn't care less what is being said about the Escape. For me right now, I can't wait to try out Escape in January. :)

I'll take back my amateur comment and rephrase.
"I'm all good with casual, but unless you lost your luggage, shorts at dinner in the MDR are for rookies".
OK, is that better??

Was on Reflection 10 months ago and not so sure I can relate that the music and entertainment stinks. It was very enjoyable all the way around. Was with some of my family and all together the crew and overall ambiance was very good and fresh. We all enjoyed the cruise.
Reading all the Celebrity complaining that goes on and on, one can easily ascertain that there certainly seems to be one common redundant trend. Actually it appears it's not Celebrity, but it's the same old, same old, tired out cruising crowd. As one says, if you don't like the vibe, product and delivery, move on to another cruise line, or take a break all together and go with land based vacations. There are a lot of other choices, try one.

^^^^^^^^
Sorry don't read biased bs reviews. :D :D

Passive Aggressive comes to mind. What the heck.

It does appear a number of the long time Celebrity cliental are going down kicking by complaining over and over again about music types and volume levels around the ship and during the shows.
Looking at the Record Profits of the last 5 years and the All Time High stock levels of RCCL(Celebrity) it's obvious Corporate really doesn't care what the more sedated cruiser wants. Actually it appears they want them to move on to the HAL, Azamaras, Crystal, SevenSeas of the world.
Those who are threatening to leave Celebrity IT IS exactly what Celebrity wants you to do, they are just not stating it and are trying to be polite.
It's Not the Words, it's the message. :) ;)

They got you, but you can pay more AGAIN and Upgrade. Whoo Hooo, such a deal !!!
-
No point to complain...just avoid and enjoy the cruise....away from the buzz!
wait til you see and hear some of the new shows....
YES !!! I Hope so. For me the shows on Celebrity are Not Loud enough.

I am not a travel agent just a retired guy but after being on cruise critic as long as I have and seeing the stupid things that people complain excessively about like x's website for instance i make one call then forget about it till packing time. AMAZING
100% agree!!

I'm all in favor of a lively upbeat nightlife, please continue to move away from the ballroom dancing crowd. Moving forward I feel the vibe of Celebrity needs to continue developing away swiftly from the retirement demographic.
I like the direction Celebrity has moved towards in the last few years and look forward to even more energy in the future. After my highly anticipated NCL Escape cruise coming up in January I hope Celebrity continues to be my cruise line of choice. ;)
-
Changing it up is a good move, keeps cruising fresh.
Celebrity is my cruise line of choice but I like variety and have booked the new NCL Escape in January. Impressed with what this new boat offers. This ship has 7 complimentary, 8 specialty restaurants and 10 bars and lounges. The entertainment is not your typical go to the theater production or individual shows. Very unique cruising concepts. Give this new ship a look, from what I've seen can't wait to try her in January.

Quite right comparison. Congrats Celebrity. Loved IT !!!

Check it out here's your answers. :D

Unfortunately there was no compassion taken here. Celebrity gave no option but upgrade for additional cost. I get the rules but $600 price drop and not even any consideration. Seems silly to book early.
That's gambling for you. Choosing the right time to book cruise and playing Blackjack in a Casino is pretty close to the same thing. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose.
-
Well look at it this way. Not all surprises work out and remain a surprise. I really wouldn't let it get to the point of cancelling your cruise cause your so mad about all of it. Maybe venting here is your way of moving on if so vent away, it's OK !! :)

Bring em !! Before retiring from golf at 55, I always took my clubs on all vacations.

There comes a time when peoples expectations exceed reality. Time to set sail and move on.
Unfortunately your future cruising days will unlikely improve with lines like Carnival, P&O and Costa.
-
Choices are good and most cruisers like a variety. Your on vacation and enjoy the different dining venues. As incorrectly mentioned earlier, not all Specialty Restaurants on Celebrity are $50.
-
Pretty simple really.
If the kids are paying, unless their sedated, I'm sure they would for sure pick Allure of the Seas.
But in reality, the parents will be picking up the tab and certainly choose Silhouette. :D
-
Truth be told.
I think more than likely what actually happened is their friends called just before final payment and got the well deserved price reduction.
A few days later the OP called but it was 2 days AFTER final payment and got shut down with a big stink to follow. The OP should be disappointed at the friends (Not Celebrity) that they didn't notify anyone for a few days.

I should add that yesterday we booked a last minute 10 day cruise on Princess (the cruise leaves next week) and our price is unbelievable. It is probably the lowest cost per passenger/day of any cruise we have booked over the past forty years...and we have booked over 100 cruises. So most of the folks on our cruise will have paid 2,3 or 4 times what we paid. But that is because we were able to wait until the last minute and were fine playing that game. And another benefit is we needed a one way air fare from FLL to BWI and Southwest (yesterday) was offering a $69 fare for our day and time! Again, this is because it is last minute and it seems like all the stars aligned in our favor. So should those who booked this cruise a year ago at much higher prices be angry? There are many times when we wanted to book a last minute cruise and could not find a good deal. So it is all part of the game and if one does not want to play they simply should stay home.
Hank
Congrats Hank on that last minute deal, exciting and only 2 weeks away. My best last minute was $999 balcony for 14 nights doing the Panama Canal Miami to L.A. Great Deals can certainly be had for last minute cruises.
Is Celebrity overpricing TA's
in Celebrity Cruises

Ouch, that is also very average at best pricing. Never fall in love with the dancer.
As others have stated, shop a Transatlantic like no other. If you must have one date, one ship or one cruise, you are on YOUR OWN. Buyer Beware.
