Cool Cruiser

Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. You've made a great choice for a cruise! In 2019 we did a 7-day cruise on the Westerdam. We took the HAL small group whale watch and Mendenhall Glacier tour in Juneau, and just loved it. In Ketchikan we took the floatplane tour with Island Wings mentioned above (booked independently). I highly recommend it. We rented a car in Skagway and drove to the Yukon as far as Emerald Lake, using Murray's Guide to the South Klondike Highway. In all three ports we had time to wander around the towns after our tours. A humpback whale swam alongside our ship in Glacier Bay while we were sitting on our balcony - just magical! You'll have a fantastic time!
  2. Heartbreaking. Praying for those who have lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods.
  3. I'm enjoying your report, reliving our 2016 cruise on the Veendam. We loved the itinerary and have several of the same pictures you do! It was our first HAL cruise, and we realized then that we'd found our cruise line. Thanks for taking the time to report.
  4. In June we tendered in Geiranger on a Celebrity cruise. We were not going on a ship's excursion so got in line to be in an early tender group after the Celebrity excursions (I think we were in the first group after them). The tendering process was pretty quick and it's just a short walk to to the excursion check-in locations. I don't remember the exact length of time everything took, but it wasn't more than an hour between the start of the tendering and being checked in for our tour. We had a wonderful day. I hope it works out for you.
  5. We scheduled ours two days in advance with no problem. I wouldn't have waited that late to book the appointment, but due to flight delays had to change our plans at the last minute. I'd book a week ahead if possible for peace of mind.
  6. There aren’t additional charges. I remember some instructions to have insurance cards ready but don’t remember having to show them. We did have to show our driver’s licenses and the unopened test kit.
  7. You can use the free government tests, one that you’ve purchased, or purchase one from OnPoint. Register on the site and schedule an appointment for a video call.
  8. Yes, you can use a phone or tablet. We used our laptop because we were at home. If we had taken the test in a hotel I would have used my iPad.
  9. I can't remember if it was on the portal, but I think it was. We got it as an attachment to the email (separate emails for each of us). Another suggestion: have a pair of small scissors handy to easily open the seal on the box and the plastic around the tubes.
  10. We used On Point with our free tests from our home prior to our June 19 cruise. The appointment was easy to schedule. Have your driver's license, insurance cards, and confirmation number ready. We used a laptop because we thought it would be easier for both of us to see and be seen on that as opposed to a phone or tablet. I set everything up ahead of time in an area with good natural light. The proctor had both of us test together; we just followed her instructions as she watched. When the 15 minutes were up, we held up our test strips one at a time, and she declared them negative. We got the email results within about 15 minutes. I had the letters on my phone but also printed them out; I think that's easier during the embarkation process. The letter was sufficient; we didn't need a QR code. Very easy process.
