Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. I don't need to be advised re the system, we already do this. I'm talking more about the buffet where vegetable dishes are routinely made with butter. For example a lentil pie vegan apart from a milk wash. The one they made specially for us was quite different, it looked a mess. Most of the plain veg and potatoes are cooked in butter. It would be nice to have a few choices to be able to be spontaneous sometimes as most people are able to be.
  2. I'm certainly not comparing being Vegan to being lactose intolerant. I'm merely saying a vegetable soup or curry for example could easily be made without dairy giving everyone more choice.
  3. I'm disappointed but not surprised by a lot of these comments. Everyone can eat Vegan dishes, but not the other way round. I read complaints about the food all the time on here yet a Vegan posts and people reply that they should try another cruise line. It's not just about Vegans a lot of people are flexitarian and what about those who are lactose intolerant? The food on Arvia (not just the excellent Green &Co) is definitely better so P&O can do it.
  4. I agree the Vegan food provision is poor, little choice and hardly any protein. We were so disappointed when there was a curry buffet and only one dish was Vegan. It's unnecessary to use butter in Vegetable dishes. The buffet is awful so it's best to use the MDR. We don't tend to have lunch and preorder our dinner. We are able to choose from the lunch and dinner menu for our evening meal. Starters are mainly salad unfortunately. Food is a big part of a lot of people's cruise yet for us it's a bit of a chore. We sailed with Carnival last month, they have a separate Vegan menu and it was lovely to have choices like everyone else.
  5. Would you be happy with a choice of one lighter option or one small plate? One suitable starter, usually a salad, main and desert for dinner? The Vegan provision is very poor, though better on Arvia. It seems at the moment no one is happy with the menu, if only P&O would introduce an actual Vegan menu as Carnival have recently done.
  6. We're Vegan, on our first cruise (January 20) there was a separate Veg/Vegan menu. Post Covid that has gone. The Vegan dishes have not changed in that time and some are very poor with virtually no protein. Carnival have introduced a new Vegan menu which has been very well received, if only P&O would do the same.
  7. Our flight from Antigua was at 19:30 and we had to meet in the theatre at 16:00.
  8. Hi, Carnival first timer here. If you preorder the port day express breakfast do you book a time? Oh and is oat or almond milk available please?
  9. We're Vegan and also find the labelling in the buffet very poor. We inspect both sides of the label and often something looks ok, but when we query it we're told it contains milk. The worst one was a milk wash on the top of an otherwise fine lentil pie. Annoying for us, but when we point out to them that milk is an allergen they don't appear to care and say they can't change the label.
  10. Hi Selbourne, a question please. I imagine on a long cruise with many sea days a lot of people will have bought WiFi. We're planning on getting the basic package. Can I ask how you're finding the WiFi? Thanks for a most interesting and informative blog. Hope you both continue to have a great holiday.
  11. We're both Vegan and much preferred the extra choice on Arvia, in fact we didn't visit the MDR at all. I'm a fan of the virtual queue and pre booking the theatre. On Azura in October the theatre filled up very early.
  12. We ate in The Olive Grove on Arvia on formal night in February. There was a special menu, but the dress code was casual.
  13. We're on this cruise. Really disappointed that there's no virtual queue as we liked to join it and wait on our balcony. Preferred to book the theatre online too.
  14. I'm interested in this cruise next year. Can I ask how US immigration was as I've read there can sometimes be huge queues? Forgive my ignorance, but you only have to do this once, yes? Was the entertainment like on other P&O ships and not for an older cruiser? My husband can't stand what he calls 'crooning'.
  15. We did a 14 night cruise in an inside cabin and I hated not having natural light. Never again, our preference is a balcony. If you've not had an inside cabin before I wouldn't try it on a 35 night cruise
