We have a food and wine cruise booked on Anthem around the 12th of September out of Southampton. Two questions: we are Americans. Do you think it will be a "go" for  us?  RCI announced this month that everyone will have to have a covid test 48 to 72 hours before sailing, but we booked a flight and hotel package two days ahead. How can we get a test in London and get the results back in time?

       We are fully vaccinated.

Think it is too early to say if it will ‘go’ for you .

UntilBoris announces which countries are green ,amber or red and what conditions are attached no-one can say .

even green countries look like having to have negative tests within 72 hours of arriving in the UK.

i had a friend last year who got a test exactly 72 hours before she wanted to fly last year and she got the results  4 hours before she flew.

Worst experience we had was when we sailed with Ocean Village (anyone remember that cruise line?) back in 2007. We were ‘adopted’ by a large family group who drank copious amounts of alcohol at all times of the day and night. They saved us seats on the pool deck and in the entertainment venues in the evening. It got that bad that we used to hide from them if we could! 😂

We had a similar experience on a costa cruise , we were put on a table for 8 with a group of 6 friends who got up between every course and went outside for a smoke .When they came back the stunk of smoke so we asked to be moved . We got a table with a couple who had had a major row and were not speaking to each other. They refused to move us again .

The buffet was closed in the evenings so there was no where else to get food. 😨

Shame. Their new ships are stunning. DH had a disastrous experience on his one and only MSC cruise and said he would never go on them again.... but he’s “forced” himself to come on Virtuosa in 2 months.  And he’s going to try YC next year. So never say never....!

Have heard the only way to go with MSC is to go Yacht club.

  4. Looking at all these ships doing seacations makes me wonder how they are going to fill them all.

my partner has decided he does not want to risk going  on a ship , yet he is prepared to go on a golf trip in July with 3 other men staying in a caravan, sharing a kitchen , toilet and shower 😡

so I looked at the single rates they are all 200%. Maybe the rates will reduce as time goes on?

That's interesting. I wonder why you have to have a UK passport? What if you are a non-UK passport holder who is legally resident in the UK? I would have thought there would be a need to prove one's residency as opposed to nationality.

Anthem of the Seas June 4 to August 29, 2021: Instead of offering European sailings, Anthem of the Seas will now offer Ocean Getaways and British Isles itineraries from Southampton exclusively for UK residents.

our TA got it wrong 😨

guess you would need to confirm that with the travel agent  when you try to book

i wonder if it also means you cant go if you dont have a passport?

They said on that coffee morning that C&A would be first to know!
I’d happily do a round Britain as I am shamefully ignorant on parts of my own country.

where did you see the coffee morning  details?

  8. In reply  to the OP, my issue  booking a cruise starting in Italy is the need to fly there, not sure that flying this year is a good idea.

Also  in response to the post saying there will be no cruises at all this year because there will be no Americans , I totally disagree . Ships will be sailing with reduced capacity which will be made up of  European guests.

Costa MSC and TUI are all planning to startup in August , time will tell.

We are booked on Anthem out of Southampton on October 4th and I have got my fingers and toes crossed that it goes.

RCI's IT system is on automatic pilot - don't think they changed anything to account for the likely coming cancellations.

With all the doom and gloom around at the moment  e.g. Boris saying we may have to wear masks for the next year , I was trying to inject a small glimmer of hope .

  10. Not a rogue wave  but...

we were on Costa Classica out of Hong kong  a few years ago the week after it had a crash with a freight ship in Shanghai.

we were 2 days late in boarding due to the ship being repaired

there was a hole in the ships aide on deck 4 , 12 cabins long which had been covered over   with a welded  on plate .
we had a force 8 gale for 4 days and 3 nights on  returning from Vietnam to Hong kong ,Water was pouring under the doors into the corridor and all along deck 4 .

water was pouring through the ceilings on the deck underneath the top outside deck.
the officers were nowhere to be seen , there was a huge bowl of sea sickness tablets on guest services desk but no  staff.

The ship also rammed a pier in Hanoi which made another dent in  the side.

During the storm we honestly though we were going  to die.

Needless to with this  and other issues  no amount of money would persuade me to go on a Costa ship again.

  11. We flew to NYC on new years eve and stayed until the 4th January

on the evening of the 3 rd of january it snowed  and snowed and snowed

when we woke up on the 4th the city was at a standstill And it was still snowing , No traffic except bin lorries with snow ploughs on the front , no taxis ,arranged transport to the ship called  to say no drivers had  turned up for work  So it was cancelled.

eventually we and another couple managed to get a car to take us to the ship.

it was the most scary ride of my life , the roads were completely white .

when we got on the ship they said no flights were landing and we eventually departed NYC at 2 am the next morning.

  12. I saw that about the USA is it worldwide except China?

    the statement issued yesterday

Royal Caribbean Announces Global Suspension Of Cruising

CLIA has announced the voluntarily suspension of U.S. cruise operations until September 15. We will share more details about this announcement with our guests early next week.

At Royal Caribbean International, our guests and crew's safety and well-being are always our top priorities. After further consulting with our partners at Cruise Lines International Association and in conjunction with the CDC, we have decided to extend the suspension of sailings for our global fleet for all sailings through July 31st, 2020. Our goal is to resume operations on August 1st, 2020 for the majority of our fleet.

    maybe more clarity next week
