My MIL and GMIL acted just as expected unfortunately, and apparently were super rude to people who were commenting on how great of a father my husband is. My MIL got offended and made some snarky comment about how she has ANOTHER son too. It's just gotten very weird. Things are very strained. Also they did not offer to help us at all which is fine. But when I stopped by the table to say hi, my MIL proceeded to chastise me for not using their drink tubs that apparently are in their shed that I had no idea about because she didn't offer them beforehand. I guess she didn't think the inflatable drink things were "nice enough". She also got upset that my mom did not sit with her, and instead sat with my Aunt and my cousins.... you know. Her own family? Also my MIL and GMIL were free to move tables. They sat at one alone in the center and glowered at everyone the whole time. Didn't even try to talk to anyone at all. MIL also yelled at me because one of our friends kids was helping open presents and she didn't like that at all. I just feel terrible for my husband because his family can't be bothered to be involved in our daily lives, and then they feel entitled to holidays etc and make rude comments when we have a "big birthday party". His mom got insulted that we gave them an in person invitation instead of a FB one too which is just ridiculous. I am fairly certain she is still bitter that we don't let her be a FB Grandma that posts photos of our kid on there all the time even though she literally never comes over here at all and knows nothing about her despite our open invitation.

 

But everything else was great, and we have a great community of people who care enough to show up which is amazing.

I had one super embarrassing moment where I confused my friends boyfriend for my other friends husband and didn't realize it until afterwards. I feel so stupid for that happening but I have literally only seen them each one time, and they look sort of similar. The bad part is both are POC, so I am really really hoping that people do not think it's simply because I think all people of a certain skintone look the same because that's not the case. But there really is no way to bring it up without making things worse.

 

 

As a person of color, I think if you apologized, that should be enough.  It's not someone that you see every day. I wouldn't be offended. And you had a lot going on and dealing with the in-laws on top of it.

My husband passed away last year and I took my first solo cruise this past March. It was a great experience and I'm planning another solo next year. I'm really enjoying your pictures and trip posts so far. Rome and Venice are on my bucket list.

On Valiant Lady right now and I'm loving it 😍 I need to go on one of Carnival's new ships before making a final decision on who I like better but Virgin is definitely top notch 👌🏿.

I'm not GenerationX, but I saw in an earlier post it was the Good Time Hotel on South Beach (co-owned by no other than Pharrell!)

I always enjoy following your "lives". Soon I'll be back on my first cruise since 2017 and my first solo. You always have such a fabulous time and I hope this one 💕 will be too!
