So far so good.  Currently past Security at BWI airport food court looking down on my gate.  It’s currently 8:30 local time and the displays show my flight on time with the incoming plane 5 minutes early.    Storms predicted later today but right now it’s just a bit cloudy.  My flight boards at 9:35.

    Roy

    Safe flight and happy travels.

All easy to do.......... Yes, NYC cabbies may have just learned to drive, and are many times lost, but 99.9% of the time they are just honest hard working folks trying to make a living. Don't worry, they all know how to get to the airports and Times Sq.

The one and only time we took a cab from the pier to La Guardia we got taken for a ride. Our cabbie got off the main highway twice on purpose.

I was calling the number posted in the cab to file a complaint while being driven around. When we got to the airport I looked for a police officer because I didn’t want to pay the thief.

The formal complaint took several months to process and the cab driver was disciplined.

Needless to say, we only use a car service or limo now.

well..therein lies the question...Im booked but I've had a little health intervention and should know on monday if I'm allowed to go....

fingers crossed but its in the lap of the Gods at the moment....

I certainly hope you are healthy to make your trip. I really enjoy reading your blogs.

  5. This has happened to me twice. I was charged for the large water bottle. Interestingly both times I had purchased the set of 8 waters (number may be wrong) . The room steward stated they would bring one less and include the water in the fridge as the extra water . My guess is that when checking the fridge at the end of the cruise they end up charging for that water again. Next time I order the set of water I am going to tell the room steward to bring me all the water and not count the water in the fridge which I will not use.

  6. I have stayed in these cabins a couple of times. The only real difference between the atrium view cabin and a regular inside cabin is the window. It gives some light which is nice at night when a normal inside cabin can be as dark as a tomb. The only view from the window is into the cabin directly across from yours, no view of the lobby below. Additionally I was “upgraded “ to one of these cabins on deck 6 (not sure if deck number is correct but it was the highest deck available for this cabin choice). It must have been below a kitchen area for King’s Court because there was the sound of crashing pots and pans at all times of the night. If purchasing this cabin grade I would highly recommend booking a cabin on the lower  decks, these cabins were absolutely silent.

  7. I've not seen that, can you remember which channel it was ?

My guess is that it is channel 21. The show is on daily hosted by the entertainment director. The guests are the entertainers for the day. It is generally on in the early morning, starting at 6 or 7.

The opening scene with the boat and song was used when I was last aboard the QV last April.

  8. Both myself and Mrs Toad always wash our hands immediately prior to entering the dining room etc and so do not use them as there is no need. Also, compared to washing your hands, they are pretty rubbish by comparison.

Obviously if you can't wash your hands then then are better than nothing, but you can in this case, so they are effectively useless.

Of course, an observer such as yourself would not know if someone has just washed their hands immediately prior to entering wherever.

While true that washing hands may be better than using the sanitizer, people may still touch surfaces on the way to the dining room such as door handles, stair banisters, elevator buttons, etc. All of these surfaces can harbor bacteria and germs.

  9. Just sailed on the QM2. Noticed lots of blue rubber gloves in use by food service staff in the buffet. One day we had burgers and fries and I happened to sit where I could watch the burger food prep area. I wish I hadn't.

The chef was wearing the blue rubber gloves - and he never changed them the 30 minutes we were there.

He handled raw hamburger when he placed them on the grill. He them rearranged a stack of plates, grabbed the french fry tongs by the handle and moved them, stirred the fries in the pan with his hand to spread them out, and then he touched the top bun of every already prepared burger in the warmer. Still not changing the gloves, he grabbed a rag and wiped down his side of the counter and then flipped the burgers on the grill.

It left me wondering if Cunard is aware of cross-contamination in food handling operations.

Beware the plastic gloves and be wary when you see them on food service workers. The only purpose they serve is to keep the workers hands clean.

I would have reported an incident like that to a manager. It is important that Cunard management be informed of situations where passengers could get a food borne illness.

  10. Britain is an Island and like all islands it has a dry and a rainy side - although not in a prototypical manner like on smaller islands.. Have a look at the climate charts on Wikipedia (at the article for the city). If you are in Fort William it will be most probably rainy, if you are in Edinburgh it will be drier.

Thanks for the tip on the climate charts, that’s a great idea.

  11. My family is going to book a British Isles cruise in 2019. Cunard is offering one in early June and one in mid-August.

On average which time frame has a chance for better weather in the British Isles?

Where I come from I can say that early June has a higher chance for rain than August.

    All help is appreciated.
