  1. Blondie511- The idea of booking at the Comfort Suites sounded so good I went on their website to see what they offered. Prices for a one day rental were all about $245-$251.

They say check in is 3 PM, so how did you work that out if you arrived in the AM?

Nice place! If on a land tour, you do get access to Atlantis and nice rooms. I did not check out room rates at Atlantis.

  2. Tigers2425-Where is the dock you refer to that is used to refurbish/drydock ships? I have not seen any reports on a dock used for that purpose but knowing the location of this dock would help.

  3. Not sure why so many hate Nassau but that is not your question.

IMHO having been to Nassau 15 times and walked miles of their streets; never had any incident where I felt there was any safety issue. Actually, we walked on most of our visits to the shopping areas (Bay Street), Queens staircase and other areas.

I do question (just speculation) what impact will be visible in Nassau with the many Bahamians now in shelters as they are homeless. Much information on this will be available before your visit.

Stay tuned in cc and you will have many posts on recent  visits to Nassau.

  4. Hard to reply as where were you planning to snorkel? Nassau is fine along with many of the surrounding islands.

Doubt (due to distance) your tours would be in the Abaco or Grand Bahama Island areas.

Try booking a tour but ask the tour agent first if their snorkel areas were impacted by the storm.

You can also look for the site Storm Caribe for posts by Bahamians  asking  all of us to travel to their islands that were not impacted by the storm.

Hope you find a great place for snorkeling!

  5. Have been to Nassau like other posters 15 or so times. Never felt unsafe.

Things to do from the port include the main shopping street; straw market (hot and humid and watch their pricing); Fish Fry area is also walkable and we enjoyed that alot!

We did our own walking tour (find information on the Internet with paths) and really enjoyed that. Again, never felt unsafe.

Crowds will depend on the number of ships in port. Before Dorian, every day there were 5 ships docked which reflects thousands of pax. I have seen the more recent port dockings and there are 3 ships there. Not sure why.

I know the island is asking for visitors to sustain their economy in those areas not impacted by Dorian.

  6. We walked to the Fish Fry area. There are so many choices of places to eat. I would not go there at night as it is a hike and uneven pavement. If interested, use a search engine and try to choose a great place to eat.

We have been to Nassau 15 times; we have done our own walking tours; talked a taxi driver to do an island tour (they seem to want to do short runs); been to Atlantis and the casino (short taxi drive); shopped on the main street (rinse and repeat); visited the straw market ( no need to go there). I would try a hotel with a beach such as the British Colonial and explore the Nassau website to see if  you could get transportation to another closeby island.

I know you can take a bus to lovely beaches but that is not something we do. We live in Florida so interested in anything not sun and water focused :classic_biggrin:

  7. Kim-I am a nurse with years of ED, ICU and nursing experience. I looked at the pics of your leg and read the last two pages of your thread about the PA who is providing your care. I have also been a CNO for years and know the healthcare scene. What can I do to help?

I am concerned looking at your leg pics as I know you are. If I could talk with you, that would help. I prefer not to post my own thoughts. I am not as tech savvy as you are :) Is there some link you can provide or tell me how to provide a link to me and let's talk by phone or email?. If you provide a link, I will give you my name and you can look me up on the Internet. I am real and a nurse colleague who cares and wants to see you getting better. I extend my offer to help; you have given so much to all of us (and your family) and I cannot think of you being in this situation without reaching out to you.

PS When you are better I know you will be focused on this ridiculous bus service that your beautiful Sakari is dealing with!

  8. When there are two or more ships, the port area becomes so crowded! We prefer to leave the port area and go elsewhere. By afternoon that pool is packed.

We always walk around the area on the way back to the ship. It has grown so with so many more shops.  We have been to Costa Maya many times so I do not find too much of interest in the shops. Watching the dolphins and flamingos was nice. So many jewelry shops, I wonder how they all survive.

  9. RCC extended cruises to return when the ports opened, which they did. They are visible on port cams for Port Everglades. Miami had many ships docked at that port today, but no NCL. Port Canaveral is now open.

I do not understand why NCL would decide to dock in New Orleans and leave pax in the terminal with no transportation, food or medicine.

I have sailed many times with NCL, but if this is what they do with pax in an emergency, maybe I need to not sail NCL. Cruising in hurricane season is a risk, but they should have made a better decision during Dorian.

  10. We will be in St. Thomas this year on Christmas day. Does anyone have recommendations for activities or excursions that would be open that day?

If you have been in St. Thomas on Christmas, would you please share your experience?

We will be sailing on Princess and looking for opportunities for something to do that day.

Thank you in advance for sharing ideas and experiences!

  11. Just saw a news report on a weather channel this morning that there is a significant wave of sargassum coming off the coast of Africa and continuing to Central America and even into the Caribbean areas. That is why Florida is seeing this same form of sea grass. In my post above, I thought the cause was due to another environmental issue in this area, but based on the report today, it is likely all the same. Posters may  want to search on any port to see if there is impact; hopefully not.

  12. We have used Bodden 2-3 times but the posts here demonstrate to me he needs more oversight of his drivers during the day.

No excuses. Bodden and other tour agents all know everyone on that island and he is responsible to maintain a high level of service.

He likely has his reputation due to cc members posting on his tours and their experiences.

I am sure he knows the if cc members are experiencing ongoing issues with double dipping, leaving pax belongings in vans and pax having to ride with others when they booked private tours, he has problems.

I will be back in Roatan for the 12th time in December, and will look to see if he has solved these issues.

Thanks to all who posted so others know what can happen and make decisions for their own tours.

I hope others continue to post to keep all of us informed.

  13. If Jane is emailing you to let you know conditions, take her information and use it. They are totally honest and only looking to keep guests aware of what they see. Look at their webcam (on their website) as many times you can see the amount of sea grass along the shore. There are times with very little, and sometimes it  builds to mounds on the shore and extends some distance into the water. On one of our last visits (been there maybe 8-10 times?) we did not go in the water due to the sea grass. Had a nice time but if you are set on a beach adventure, this might not be the port. I give them credit for the ongoing need to constantly clean their beach. If you are there, look to the properties to the right as you are facing the sea; the lack of gathering this sea grass is so evident.

They are not alone with this problem. Southwest Florida is being inundated with smelly orange colored sea grass that is along the beaches and in the water for 20+ feet. Different cause here however.

  14. We have used that agency and had a fine experience. Living in Florida and being "storm shy" after 2004-2005 hurricane season, we had to evacuate for the first time in 2018 due to Irma. I will not bore you with the years in between.

We will not sail in August- September so they could price cruises as low as they could go, and we will not leave for vacation purposes.

We have animals, a house to care for and decisions to make depending on the strength and path of any storm system.

Glad for those who can take advantage of good pricing! Enjoy!
