  1. Well, P and O obviously have them on the ships. I wonder if it would be worth asking the Maitre D in the MDR on Ventura if I might have some as a starter. Any thoughts?
  2. I note that tiger prawns were served in the Epicurean but at an extra charge. I am sad that ordinary prawns have been removed from the (Included food) in the MDR. Obviously, a cost cutting issue. They are very cheap to buy at Iceland shops, and P and O must be able to buy them even cheaper. I actually live in a place that regularly catches shellfish AND THE QUALITY is excellent.
  3. To Fionboard. It’s more than a shame, it’s a disaster! Not even any in the buffet at lunchtime. I’m not asking for lobster, just some prawns and mussles.
  4. As regards comparisons, I have cruised on other lines, but my main concern is the amount of cutbacks P and O have made since before Covid. I have been looking at various menus in the MDR and buffet and can see no shellfish whatsoever. If you like Caesar salad you are going to be well catered for as recent menus feature Caesar salad as a starter every single evening except the two formal nights.
  5. Can anybody explain what this is please and is it on all ships?
  6. Could somebody explain to me please what the chefs table is. I’ve not heard of it before.
  7. I think will all the good reports about the Aurora you should br persuaded.
  8. Aurora is my favourite ship. Don’t hesitate. It has a tiered stern with both lounge beds and lounge chairs. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
  9. They obviously don’t want you to save money and share. To my mind, the amount of alcohol you are allowed to drink (with the drinks package) per day is ridiculous. If I managed to drink all that I would be under the table)
  10. Harry, my friend has just emailed me and said there is no shellfish even in the lunch buffet and I know from past cruises that it was always featured. Two possible reasons. 1. It is a P and O cutback. 2. P and O consider it a cause of upset tummies. It this is the reason, I’m surprised I’ve managed to reach my eighties. Certainly, it is worth asking the Maitre D if it could be provided, it’s not as if it were expensive.
  11. Sarah, please let me know how things go on. I am a big fan of shellfish. I do feel that P and O may be trying to push us into the Speciality restaurants as they make more money. I don’t want to be pushed and will complain if necessary to the Maistre D (but nicely and respectfully). You get nowhere by being rude.
  12. A friend of mine is on the Iona, she has just sent me a text to say that the food is not that great and she hasn’t seen any shellfish. I am slightly concerned as she is most definitely NOT the complaining sort.
  13. What sort of shows are featured in the Limelight club?
  14. I find it sad that if you want an excellent meal you need to go to the specialty restaurants. I’ve been with P and O for years and I found, going into the MDR was, for me, a wonderful occasion. No cooking, an excellent meal and no dishes to wash up.
  15. Totally agree, I could also eat in in a sandwich. I also love Moule. I think in England you call them mussels. I hope they still serve these at lunchtime in the buffet. I’ve not seen it on any of the main dining room menus so I hope they haven’t been withdrawn.
  16. Reading about the dreadful plane crash in Nepal rather puts our petty moans into perspective. However I do hanker after the old days when people were so polite to each other and well behaved.
  17. Prawn cocktail is a really strange item to serve with afternoon tea. I just love shellfish so I don’t really care what time of day it is. It can always go in my cabin fridge.
  18. I have been looking at the evening menus in the main dining room on this cruise. Apart from the two black tie evenings, Caesar salad and another vegetarian option was featured as a starter every night. Prawn cocktail did not appear once. I am wondering if this is across the whole fleet.
  19. I fear this behaviour could be a result of their drinks package and that Some people are determined to get their money’s worth
  20. Unfortunately, it’s not just technical problems onArcadia. There are major cutbacks over all the P and O ships. unfortunately I am booked on Ventura for a 35 night cruise at the beginning of March. How I wish I had known about all these cutbacks before I had paid my final balance. I would have sacrificed the deposit.
  21. What a shame, the only time I have known shellfish to be withdrawn is when they had Norvo on board and the Chef considered it unwise to serve it.
  22. Have I heard correctly, that you are expected to choose your desert right at the beginning of the evening meals in the Main Dining room. With no prawn cocktail being served in the evenings in the main dining room, I am wondering if they are still doing the mixed shellfish and half mussels and ‘shell on’ prawns in the buffet at lunchtime. My all-time favourite.
  23. I don’t think you will r7n short.
  24. Thanks for the warning, I am a cheese addict but mostly only eat French cheese.
