We like the place but try to get a room in the front of the building as the rear faces the railroad tracks. Not a major issue IMO, but one to be aware of.
It is only 2-3 blocks from the pier. They will shuttle you, be we just walk it in 5-10 minutes.
Thanks for the tip. We have never stayed their before. We just seen all the perks like breakfast ( we are traveling with 2 teens so foods always a bonus lol)

We just booked Hampton Inn San Diego-Downtown/Airport Area
1531 Pacific Highway, it has airport shuttle, and shuttle to the port -
Our first cruise last year on HAL that was the only thing I wasn’t crazy about all the meat seemed to be cooked to very rare in the lido or the steaks we asked for to be medium were cooked in the sous vide, so they didn’t have a sear they had a boils meat feel in the mouth. I don’t want to be that annoying passenger.

You can guarantee that at least a third of the passengers will be kids and teens over spring break.
Last Easter was our first HAL cruise after Disney priced us out. It wasn’t the same club experience but my teens had an amazing time 100% due to the friends they made on board.

Thanks, for the review. We are sailing in March. Did you notice many kids or teens ? It will be spring break when we go, our kids are hoping other teens will be on there to hang out with.

Our kids used the clubs last Easter, they have done 7 Disney cruises. They were bored with the clubs on HAL there were lists of planned activities but it was never followed. There were 80 kids in the age group they were in, so it wasn’t lack of kids. The leaders just didn’t really engage them it was more a place to hang out with the leaders just there or the leaders just sent them to the basketball court. They did have fun once they made a few friends and started doing stuff on their own.

We get in about midnight the 23rd we have a stop over in San Francisco. Going home it was way cheaper for us to spend a night in Las Vegas

Have you signed up for meet and greet? We are on that cruise!
I haven’t seen any meet and greets, but I did create a rollcall. We are going to be with our 2 teens, my nephew is joining up to and on our last Disney cruise we meet a wonderful young man from New York him and his family are hoping to join us too.

Spring breakers cannot afford HAL.
Out of all the cruise lHAL was the cheapest by thousands for that time, we had looked at carnival and princess Royal Caribbean and Disney. Not just out of San Diego and none of them came close to HALs price. We are paying $2700 Canadian for 4 in an ocean view with the explore 4 package none of the others were under $4000 without the drink package. We found the same thing last Easter too.. It was even cheaper then a 2 star Mexican all inclusive too

For me asa beer drinker it is not worth upgrading. For my wife who likes a few cocktails it is not worth it. If you are into top shelf spirits it may be worth it. If you are into the better wines (which you said you are not) it may be worth it. Check out the details here https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/news/2017-press-releases/news-20170424-holland-america-line-new-beverage-packages.html

I butted in on another post with this question but didn’t really get a clear answer. We have the SBP if we don’t really drink wine ( I know we are kicked off the island.) but of we don’t is it worth upgrading our drink package. Or is better wine the only really benefit?
-
I hope you don’t mind me jumping in to, so other then if you are into wine I get the impression it’s not worth upgrading? We have been thinking about it to

March 24 is there (linked below), but it’s missing the year; it’s right on the first screen of the NA Roll Call forum. I don’t see one for March 31, but that forum is really cluttered up with non-Roll Call threads. Hey folks, please just post Roll Calls in the Roll Call forums.
Yup, that’s the one I said I started and there is only me and one other person lol
So all the ice cream is still mine 😂

If you're talking about the March 9 cruise out of San Diego to Hawaii/Tahiti/Marquesas on the Eurodam, there's a VERY active Roll Call that's been humming along for over a year. Over 100 folks so far, lots of activities planned, etc.
If that's not the cruise you're talking about, then ... never mind. 😉
Lana in Bellingham, WA
Nope the Neuiw Amsterdam on the 24th

We are used to Disney cruises with lots of people and fish extender groups

There are 96 people signed up on roll call for our next cruise that is the March 9, 2019 28 days out of San Diego on the Eurodam which has been helpful. But our cruise before that very little people signed up and it was pretty worthless. I think that the longer the cruise the more people sign up for roll call. I found if you are sailing the Caribbean the less people care about the roll call.
We are on the NA March 24-31

We have a drink package, but our travel agent is including 2x$50 beverage cards.what can we use them for?
Why book direct and then transfer?
in Holland America Line

The agency we transferred to, if they do the initial booking they charge $30 per person. If we transfer after there is no fee but we get the perks the agency offers
