We are also doing South America in January and are debating whether to get the YF shot. We’re a little north of 70 but pretty healthy. Realizing that we’re all different, if you’ve already gotten the vaccine, did you have side effects? Our doctor is doing some research and hasn’t given us his answer, yet.

I am 70.   DW had no reactions,  I think I may have had a reaction to the Typhoid fever shot.  A week later I had a low grade fever for a day but don't know if that was a reaction.  The reason I think it may have been the Typhoid fever shot is because it is a live vaccine.

So if the info is on the pax invoice    that is clearly communicated

If the PAX chooses  not to read their invoice or Cruise contract  who do you fault  then??

Yes I agree and always read the invoice and contract.  However I think we're in the minority unfortunately. So "fault" may not be the best word but better communication would have been good.

    Categories PH and Below

DAYS PRIOR TO CRUISE SAIL DATE - CANCELLATION AMOUNT

181+ Days prior - $150 Admin Fee pp

180-151 Days Prior - $500 Admin Fee pp

    150-121 Days Prior - 25% of Fare

    120-91 Days Prior - 50% of Fare

    90-61 Days Prior - 75% of Fare

    60-0 Days Prior - 100% of Fare

    Deposit PH-G - $500 P/Guest

Thanks for this. Also good luck to those choosing cruise lines with no fee as many others charge a non refundable fee too. I consider this a good thing as many cruises get waitlisted by those not serious about booking. I do think this should have been clearly communicated so I fault Oceania for that.

We already have Dr appointments scheduled.  Just was wondering others experiences in that cruising area.  CDC is vague for cruises only without traveling deep into country.

I will comment since you mention your consulting with a doctor.  We're traveling to South America this Jan.  YF vaccine is recommended but not required.  We chose to get the YF vaccine, a lifetime shot. Also typhoid fever, a two year shot. Plus hep a/b.  Typhoid is not an issue in coastal brazil but is up the amazon. The fatality rate is so high with these I wanted peotection. Beyond the vaccines long sleeves and insect repelants and protection is very important. We plan extensive travel over the next few years so was worth it for us. Since the Panama canal is not in South America I don't think it's needed but your doctor can give the best answer.

  5. I think it's possible to determine what's on sale.  Take the brochure fare and divide by two.  If the result equals the "promotional fare with airfare" then that category is not on sale.  If it's less then it's on sale.  For the cruise I was looking at PH1's were not on sale but A's,B's and C's were on sale.  Don't know if my logic is correct but seems to correlate.  I just wish it would be clearly listed and didn't need to use a top secret decoder algorithm to determine. 🙂

  6. I called to check and the price was same as on website.   Essentially this appears to be a non-sale.  No reduction in price.  This was for a PH1 on an october sailing advertised as being on the black friday sale.  Same price as last week.

  7. Here's a copy of the email I received in July for an August sailing.

In review of current rates for your sailing xxxxxxxxx, we have identified a price drop in the amount of $1199.9.

As a one-time good will gesture,  we have created 100% of that amount as future cruise credits for you below:

    2372943xz - guest1 - $599.95

    2372945xz - guest2 - $599.95

These credits will be available for one year to book and sail, upon completion of your current sailing on Debarkation Day.

Please note terms and conditions include but are not limited to the following:  Your future cruise credit (FCC) is only applicable towards sailings six days or longer, FCC provided is non-transferable, FCC provided is non-refundable, FCC is issued to guest 1 and 2 on the reservation only, guest who cancel their reservation prior to sailing will have their FCC deactivated from their client profile.

Thank you for choosing Norwegian Cruise Line, we look forward to welcoming you aboard soon!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I called my TA and asked for the FCC. She said NCL put in the request, and I’ll get an email in 5-6 days from NCL. I don’t know if I’ll end up using it because this is my second cruise this year, but at least I’ll have it if I am able to cruise again.

Will I see the FCC in my NCL account?

Yes you will see the FCC in your account at the end of your cruise.

My February cruise (past PIF date) has gone down by about $900. If they will give me FCC for the difference, how will that be distributed between the three passengers in my cabin? $300 each or $900 to the lead passenger? One reason it’s gone down is the third passenger is now free (had been $98).

I don't have the direct answer to your question.  In my case of 2 passengers the FCC was divided between the two of us.   It's very likely you'll save money so worth the phone call.

Don't fool yourself.  Class action lawsuits are ALWAYS for the benefit of the lawyers involved.  The consumers get pennies on the dollar.  I would always choose to handle things individually rather than be part of any class action lawsuit.  I find it amusing when I am sent a random check for $1.25 in the mail for a class-action lawsuit I happened to qualified for.

Yes I still have a check in my drawer for $ .21

Meanwhile, this situation is a mess, and Oceania is making it worse.

[Can't a cruiseline get special insurance for "really, really bad events such that they'd want to refund everyone who wants it"?  After all, it wouldn't be invoked that often, or so one hopes (!).  But yeah, that would cost more...]

I'll be very interested in how this all plays out, with Oceania and the other cruise lines.  Will they all end up doing pretty much the same thing, or will some lines refund, and others still play hardball?

And regardless of the above, making an offer and then rescinding it without notice!??

This all reminds me of a billboard I saw years ago:

"People only remember one thing more than good service.

    BAD SERVICE."

    GC

Yes they sure are making it worse.  Regarding insurance I know my homeowners policy doesn't cover really really bad events like war and nuclear disastor so it's likely the cruise line can't get that type of coverage.  I'm hoping Oceania utlimately choses to refund but they get a solid "F" grade from me for how they've handled communication and action it so far.
