  1. Still less than a ship's length from the shore when they did the turn around .
  2. Perhaps you can explain the picture above? The rear of the ship is way too close to the sand bar...
  3. State investigating amid reports cruise ship sailed too close to Kauai’s Na Pali Coast (hawaiinewsnow.com) It is rather obvious why they were sending sand all over the floor. I see a sand bar to the rear right of the ship. Am I the only one who sees the ship in shallow water?
  4. @Jim_Iain we just heard that you were on the Edge sailing too close to the Edge (pun intended). 😁
  5. So now we are back to the pictures that show that they are in shallow water posted from the ship...
  6. They chart it every once in a while. But sand drifts and moves with the current. They are not mapping it every day. You are talking about a very small margin of error here.
  7. They have boats with only one foot draft that are showing pictures of their depth finder. When you are with the fishing boats and tour boats you know that something is wrong. Also you can see the shallows/reefs from earlier pictures posted from the boat.
  8. Apparently you have never driven a boat? The elevation can quickly change and is not 16 feet across all of the ship. A 20 foot increase or decrease is common. The shipping channel is not marked as the captain is off roading it 🤣 The depth can also change by several feet over a short period of time. I got my boat caught when the depths went from 60 feet to 1 foot.
  9. At this point I think that they are just lucky that they did not end up stuck on the sand ... Not to mention the damage to the reefs, etc...
  10. Maybe they have a deaf and blind crew? Can't see or hear? I had alarms on my boat that would go off when I was getting shallow. A cruise ship has much better gear ...
  11. Cruise ships have roughly a 30 foot draft. That means that the bottom of the ship is only 13 feet above the sand. I have driven powerboats. I would not go full speed in 13 foot of water as the depth can change very quickly.
  12. OK. Has anyone done a Princess Norwegian Fjords cruise? It is looking like HAL vs Princess right now.
  13. OK. I see Eclipse now for 2025. I don't do short 7 day cruises though ... Skipping May and September looking at June,July, and August ...
  14. I am looking at booking a Norway cruise. Is it true that Celebrity only has E class ships doing these cruises?
  15. Even the RCL captain who took the ship into a storm with 30 footers and burned out one of the azipods and shortened the cruise? What do you call him? Ex captain ...
  16. I am starting to lean towards Princess. Does Princess have kids running through the hallways at night? This was happening on Millie during a Christmas cruise. The Millie staffing was also an issue. Instead of booking another cruise, I ended up booking a land vacation for next year as the resorts handily outperformed Millie in both food and service.
  17. LOL. But they are sending sand and bottom debris all over the place in a protected wildlife area. A captain without any common sense? It would not be the first time...
  18. Our Moveup bid was accepted at 45 days out.
  19. Other boats in the area reported that they were in about 43 feet of water...
  20. It will be interesting to see if Captain Matt is captain next week. That will be a sign of how the investigation is going. The week before we were to go on an RCL cruise, the captain took the ship into a storm with 30 footers and burned out one of the azipods. Our cruise was fine (after repairs), but there was a new captain on our cruise.
