Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Jackpot! Regal Princess still has a jar full of old passport stamps - at least 200-300 of them, though only with a few destinations. (I grabbed a token amount.) Ask for them at the Captain's Circle loyalty desk. They keep the jar in a drawer.
  2. I’m on the same cruise (Southampton to Ft. Lauderdale) and I’m seeing the same speeds — 3 mbps down, 0.7 mbps up. So far, it’s handled most of my tasks without trouble, so I’m happy. Taking a technical bent: — Regal Princess was using SES service 2 years ago, and it was getting about 0.3 mbps. — Regal has since switched to Starlink, which appears to be holding 3.0 mbps pretty consistently. — Compare this with Sun Princess, which was built with Starlink. The speeds are better there because it was designed with that in mind. — Speeds will depend to some degree on latitude. Ruby Princess (still on SES until this month’s drydock service) was getting speeds above 5.0 mbps in the tropics, but down to as little as 0.1 mbps in the North Sea. I trust Starlink will be more consistent, but should also improve as SpaceX launches more rockets.
  3. I'm in the middle of re-calculating the cost/benefit. The new fees may bump us up into the Plus category. Alfredo's new charges seriously shift the numbers for us!
  4. The tunnel site hasn't been updated in a while, but the basic stats: -- 37M high -- 36M wide - Plenty of space for all of Hurtigruten or Havila's ships. -- 1.7 KM long (about a 10 minute transit) -- one way! Traffic managed similar to the Panama Canal locks. -- expected to take 4 years to build. I'd love to go through this, hopefully by 2030.
  5. When you log in, it will show "one device logged in" if you bought the single package. When you log in the second device, it will forcibly remove the other one, so it's quick and easy. If you bought the Princess Premium or the multiple device service, it shows "X of 4 devices logged in" with a graphic for each of the 4 potential devices. If you push this to 5 devices, it will knock something else out, but I haven't figured out how it chooses. Platinum loyalty and above get half off multiple device service, so we buy that and forget all of the log-off, log-on effort.
  6. Amusingly, Holland America seems to have started a sticker passbook, just as Princess was ending theirs!
  7. I was dismayed when Princess stopped the Passport stamps in 2020. My book was doing so well! I've been getting by, asking the Loyalty desk for any leftover stamps they have, but that now seems to have run its course. ... unless some of you have spare stamps? I'm looking for a Panama Canal / transition stamp. I can rework the rest. Even just a picture of one would allow me to make one myself.
