  1. I've lived my entire life on one of the Hawaiian islands. Been around the water my entire life as well. If you didn't see it YT- March 2024 Sand Update Kua Bay. Sand gets kicked up and moved around a bunch here in the islands. I doubt the amount of sand kicked up by the ship would be more than that kicked up by a decent sized swell so I highly doubt any real damage was done. And even if it was it's not your fault in the slightest. My and most locals biggest issue is that IF the ship got too close what kind of damage would have been done if it got stuck, either by going to shallow due to oversight or if there were a mechanical issue and were pushed ashore by waves, current, winds.
  2. So far as I know there is no set "safe distance" to how close the ship can approach the glacier. It depends on what the captain decides is a safe distance depending on the weather conditions and how much ice may be in the water. At least that is what I recall was advised during my two cruises to Alaska. Hopefully you have some nice weather and get some great memories.
  3. So most people in Hawaii who boat and definitely surfers who surf at sandy spots do. The beach can and often is a changing thing. Entire beaches come and go..and I do mean entire beaches. That sand goes out to sea and often forms sand bars. YT- March 2024 sand update kua bay. Give it a watch for just the first minute and you'll get an idea of how much sand can move around in a few months. In fact I hope a whole bunch people on here who think..."hey it's a known depth" will go watch and see why locals aren't happy with that answer. Understand that we have had more than a few sailboats and even mega yachts ground ashore in Hawaii the last couple of years...we are talking multi million dollar ships. Love Celebrity, best line I've been on in my limited experience but this was a mistake. Per people on the ship the captain even joked about it or mentioned it so there is no doubt it happened despite some people insisting their view from their stateroom says nothing to worry about...how was the drink package...worth it?
  4. Exactly. Responsibility of the ship and root cause of the incident are entirely different things. And as far as those saying...well he was in x feet of water so he had plenty of room. He wasn't navigating in a dredged out channel or a commercial harbor with markers showing hazards here or even an established known lane. If you think every inch of the near shore waters has every rock/coral outcropping notated...well I guess ignorance is bliss. Go look at a topographical map of dry land and see if it designates every rock that sticks up 20 feet lol.
  5. Yes...and they are the only US Armed forces that do. They also transfer under the Navy during wartime because...they're part of our military.
  6. Coast Guard is one of the armed forces of the US and most would consider that part of our military. I mean they fall back under the Navy during war time. As for why being thankful no injuries on board. - I don't think they are meaning that this incident was violent enough to cause injury...just that getting too close to shore has potential for turning out bad. Sort of like when you tell someone about how you almost got hit by some crazy driver and they're like "thank goodness you weren't injured/you're ok" it's just something people say.
  7. PV has the honor of the only place in our 7 port cruise where I was hustled for an unfair price. It happened when trying to get one of the taxis in the port and was told 25 USD to take us down to Lazaro Cardenas park (GF wanted to see the tiled works there) for the start of our walk along the malecon. I was initially just going to pay it despite it being a bit expensive but I asked how much in pesos since I wasn't carrying anything other than dollar bills in USD for tips with me. The guy tells me 500 pesos! I told the guy no thanks and then another guy tries to get me to go for 300...but I'm irritated at the lot of them at that point so I just walk out of the port. Ordered an Uber (I suggest you make a pickup at Casino Life across the street), it was 140 pesos WITH a 20 tip. Will never waste my time with a taxi again if I can help it in Mexico.
  8. When you make a commission off the client it's always a good idea lol. On a serious note cruise stocks generally were very good performers historically prior to COVID. I used that to make my decision to buy when they tanked during COVID...at least for Royal and Carnival as I wasn't sure NCL was gonna make it.
  9. Oh, that's too bad. Weird as I submitted to the old email on 02/23 and got a reply on 02/25 with an approval and advisement to use the stockperks in the future. But seems like most haven't had much trouble with getting their SHB approved. Good luck!
  10. Wait- You don't like that it's crowded but also state "You are choosing to travel on a ship with over 1000 passengers". Uhh...that take didn't age well. You state there are 4-5 other dining areas. Really? Do they have the same selection of food? Are they open when the Lido is for breakfast? What if you don't want to pay the surcharge? Or are we comparing apples to oranges here. If people are eating...fine. However I find it strange that your suggestion that the person who doesn't like people using up tables for other than dining (in the dining area of the Lido) be the one to go someplace else on the ship when the vast majority of public space on the ship has tables/seats to socialize and such. Tell me, are there more areas for socializing vs the seating area of the Lido? What if the complaint was someone listening to their music loudly? Is your suggestion the same? Or is it that inconsiderate behavior should be corrected? If people practiced common...or maybe not so common decency things would be better for all.
  11. IF there are open tables I really don't have a problem with this. But when tables are full and there are obviously people looking to sit down and eat why not have some class and move along? It's not like there aren't a ton of space within a ship (at least that I've been on) that you can't do stuff like that in lots of places. In their defense though I have to admit to getting lost in my own little world and having to have the GF give me the nudge that it's time to give up the table so others can eat. This applies not just to the Lido but any causal counter service place where seating is limited.
  12. I applied for the SHB via the old email addy (CCLshareholderHAL) as that was the process I found when I googled it. That was February 23. I blocked out my home address as that was in the instructions I found and they approved it stating that I would have to go through stockperks in the future. So if you really are having a problem with stockperks due to your home address being different you MIGHT get lucky by blocking it out and submitting the request to the old email.
  13. 6901 interior cabin. Used and sadly forgot a magnetic motion light on the ceiling. Didn't try it on the walls but the magnetic "Deep Sleep" sign stuck on the wall and door just fine.
