  1. Above comments should be reassuring. Just adding my few cents: Yes, cabin cleaning begins very early, and not by just the daily steward. They have help from staff from different departments. The crew helps crew! For example: the casino staff does not get time much off during turnaround. Some help with cleaning some areas, luggage handling, restocking… The waitstaff from various venues also chip in. We recently learned that after the MDR closes each night, it is cleaned and fogged, so staff is often there well after midnight! So fear germs, but don’t obsess! Your taxi ride, flight and hotel rooms might be just a bit less clean. 😲🤣
  2. Yes, go early…6-6:30… when the early seated folks are finishing up and heading out. Did this every night recently on Enchamtment and got the same table or at least same waiter. Also, ASAP once on board go straight to MDR and make preference known. Did so, asking for table for two near a window. So noted and success!!
  3. Done it? Booked it thru RCCL? A bit pricey, but worth it?
  4. Opinions again….Trying to decide… Lands End Inn or Beluga Lake Lodge. Lands End…resort style? Beluga Lake…rustic? Both clean ? Better location to town?
  5. Looking for specific description for a deck 8 balcony (near the elevators around 8104area). They look like the balcony may be spacious, but is end to end ship view limited by the “hump”?
  6. Took this excursion recently from Royal Caribbean. Not impressed. Pricey for the experience. Catamaran was not the fun sail boat that I enjoy and perhaps mistakenly expected, but rather a motor boat. The train ride is on an OLD sugar cane train and route which is VERY bumpy, so not at all good if you have any back issues. Scenery is of a pretty barren landscape with a few glimpses of the ocean which is nice. Sugar cane is no longer grown here on most of the island. The “entertainment “ of a few costumed dancers was very brief and the same you might see around the port for free. Rum punch was good. 😉 Obviously just my opinion, but just wish to inform that it is quite an uncomfortable train experience.
  7. Show your SeaPass card… it’s your key, ID, credit card, your cruise lifeline….
  8. Maybe a little off subject here, but looking for inexpensive/no frills but clean accommodation in Anchorage before road trip to Seward.…perhaps near airport in order to get a rental car and head out early the next day. Motel 6. ? 😉 (Not going into Anchorage this trip.)
  9. Any suggestions/opinions for accommodations for two nights in Homer?
  10. This really leaves me shaking my head. Please enlighten me as to why you might even consider room service for 12?? Or are you just hungry? Or joking? Are you all in quarantine?! Avoiding COVID? What stateroom will seat 12 for a meal?! Not want to get out of you bathing suits or PJs for the hike to the WJ where all can pick and choose and seating is available. Waitstaff in the WJ is very obliging to help you.
  11. Hope!! 🤣. Went there on previous trip for just a few minutes … a step back in time! Be aware of time needed to travel thru the tunnel to/from Whittier…scheduled passage I believe. You can drive right up to EXIT GLACIER and walk beside it… a nice preview of much more to come on the cruise! MILEPOST is a good publication to get. An accompanying CD can narrate/guide your trip.
  12. For a September cruise….Our plan is to fly to Anchorage, rent a car and take a road trip to Seward … first going to Homer then backtracking a bit to go to Seward. Previously did the drive straight to Seward….a nice, easy route. Not sure yet how many days/overnights to do this time. FYI: I did book a room right away in Seward for the night before the cruise. Seward is a small town and I just don’t know how quickly accommodations might fill up with cruise passengers.
  13. Normally, but not so on my previous cruise. Did not present a problem.
  14. Is there a partition of any sort between the 2 balconies of a connecting room?
  15. For any stateroom, ask your cabin attendant to leave you room service menus. Fill it out and hang outside your door before going to bed. Fill in all info. Be sure to ✔️ the box for preferred delivery time. Continental is NO CHARGE, tho a tip is appreciated. You will generally get a phone call when it’s on the way…or a gentle knock on the door. It is never left in the hallway. You can indicate where you want the tray placed….desk, bed, balcony….. A great, relaxing way to start your day(s) !

    Alaska Heresy

PS. Just keep an open mind as you just might find an excursion that strikes you. If so, go for it as this’ll be a special anniversary celebration.

    Alaska Heresy

Yes, do your own thing! As said, ports are easy to meander around if you just want a little walk, shop, eat, drink, feel the local vibe. Passing scenery from the ship will be great! Don’t be discouraged when you hear shore excursion stories at dinner time. There are always experiences to hear about, but the reason for different excursions is for different expectations. One size doesn’t fit all ! Expect a relaxing, well deserved cruise doing as YOU please! Happy Anniversary!
  18. Just booked southbound Alaska cruise from Seward to Vancouver. Now I’m looking for flights….Boston to Anchorage, Vancouver to Boston. $$$$ !! Any thoughts on booking thru Royal Caribbean or on my own.

    Drive to Homer

Cruise departs from Seward, so No return drive to anchorage. Our drive would end in Seward providing car drop is available. If not, then that drive plan would have to be scrapped. Will determine number of days to allow once route is set. No time frame yet. Previously we drove round trip Anchorage/Seward in 3-4 days. Did a nice/scenic boat tour at Resurrection Bay.

    Drive to Homer

Planning a cruise out of Seward after visiting Homer. Looking to rent a car for a few days ahead of the cruise. (Did so a few years back…Anchorage to Seward to Anchorage before a cruise/tour …Denali then departed from Whittier for cruise). Anybody done the drive from Anchorage to Homer to Seward? Looks like a nice trip to interesting Homer.
  23. 1. Just print anything out in case phone reception dies, gets lost, inconvenient. 2. Check that it’s your name on the card when you get to your stateroom. If not, you might be at the wrong stateroom…..happened to a friend on a recent cruise. She had started to unpack when the “real” occupants showed up 🤣🤣
  24. once on board GO DIRECTLY to the main dining room and try to get desired time and table. We couldn’t get anything official other than 7:00. However, we showed up earlier each night, got in the line for “with reservations “ and got seated pretty quickly…in same area each night….often same table. There is always the Windjammer! 👍
