I think what is trying to be said is that all staterooms on the Vaandam that have a balcony are called "Suites".  That ship has:

    Inside cabin

    Ocean View cabin

Vista Suite - This is the category with balconies

Neptune/Pinnacle Suite - Highest category with balconies.

Zaandam Cruise Ship - Elegant & Comfortable | Holland America Line

Thank, I just checked and yes, it’s called a vista suite but it’s really just a plain old balcony cabin lol. We have only had balconies and suites… snobs like that so just wanted to make sure I didn’t accidentally book an inside cabin. (I love the idea of cruising more in an inside cabin but DH says absolutely not so….. lol)

Personally, we would avoid both.  We book a balcony but there are no regular balconies, they’re sold as suites at a much higher price.  There’s also no fridges in rooms below suites.  If money weren’t an issue or we enjoyed oceanview cabins we’d consider them.

Wait, so my balcony cabin isn’t a balcony cabin? I sure as heck don’t have a suite. Off to check .

  3. I plan to hit the ATM and don’t convert at the machine. Let your bank convert. And use CC.

years ago in Vancouver and whistler they took US dollars, but they GREATLY APPRECIATED local currently. I used to get my bank to get me $100 before I left, but the exchange rate in doing that is not advantageous, so really it’s just easier to hit a ATM, but when it gives you the two button choice of convert or don’t convert, it’s usually better to hit don’t convert.

  4. Is there a car rental close to port? I need to book something for bar harbor for May 5!!! It’s been busy around here and we are just getting around to figuring out what we want to do. Thanks.

You can dign up for Unlimited Laundry onboard (using OBC if you have any) or pre-purchase it once you are logged in to your booking. It's under "Cruise Activities" then "Packages"

If doing Laundry By The Bag, just sign the form when you fill the bag.

    Thank you so much

driving is the same as in the USA except in  Kilometers

Where do you plan to go?

    Waterfront is flat

walking to the Citadel is uphill

I’m not sure where we want to go. We are late in booking excursions and so many are sold out.  I’m doing my research. Thanks!

As for the Bar Harbor change, the Zaandam was the only cruise ship scheduled for a port call there for the month of April (the 23) with the NCL Pearl next in on May 4. My guess is that even though Bar Harbor itself is a good place to visit most times of the year it is unable to provide the things that 1K+ cruise pax are looking for this early in the season. I agree that Portland is a good replacement but it is to short of a stay to fully take in the city.

Zaandam will port at Bar Harbor on May 5 as of right now. I’m on that cruise.
