  1. Good evening all. We had a busy day going routine dental checkups. We ran two errands afterward and got home late. Tomorrow Craig is going to the dermatologist for treatment for a skin cancer on his arm. And I’m taking DM to a hearing aide appointment. So I’ll probably post late again tomorrow. About the days. Craig is an avid bath taker and reads or watches TV. We both love pizza and I like to make my own too. We were supposed to go to Athens in 2001 but because of a sudden transportation strike we went to Potmos instead. Joy @Seasick Sailor, I get seasick and swear by Bonine. I usually take half a tablet am and pm unless it’s a calm area. And I also do what Gerry @ger_77 does and start taking it prior to the cruise, usually the day we fly. I’m going to buy the stuff Jacqui @kazumentioned for my Panama Canal cruise too. Every little bit helps. Blessings to all.
  2. Good evening all. Joy @Seasick Sailor, I’m sorry you haven’t heard from your doctor yet. Some clinics seem to have weird call back systems…… or none at all. My doctor is notorious for calling really early or late. When I was working he would even call me there because he knew I answered the phone. I hope you hear early tomorrow. Carolyn @Cruising-along, how discouraging your results must be for you. I hope the changes to your meds help. Terri @Cruzin Terri, congratulations on the slot win. Your trip to Italy and cruise sounds wonderful. @tupper10, I hope you feel better after your procedure and that your son can get back to work soon. Annie @marshhawk, what day are you in Victoria? I’ll be there in April too…. Oops, it’s actually May, I think it’s the 5th of May. Also, hoping your DH is doing well after his surgery and not touching or rubbing his eye.
  3. Good morning everyone and Happy Wednesday. I like the meal suggestion and make it with tenders and either grill them or cook in the oven. I tried to cook on the stovetop but with the honey they are just too messy. Sometimes I even make sliders with them with cheese and bacon. Today we are having chili and cornbread. I’ve had the wine but don’t pay that much for it, seems like it was $10-12. I was able to change my flight yesterday but it cost me more money, of course. Joy @Seasick Sailor, I am so sorry about your results. No wonder you are in pain. You must have fallen hard. Maybe they will recommend taping the area because I know they can’t do much for those rib fractures. Take it easy too. Roy @rafinmd, I’m glad you are sleeping well and had a good day yesterday. Have a great day everyone!
  4. Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday. I like Italian Wedding soup and actually have a jar of it from TJ’s, it’s waiting in the cupboard for a rainy day. Not much happening here. Yesterday I decided to add another day pre cruise so now I need to change my flight to the arrive the day before. Prayers for all and especially our Care List. Have a great day!
  5. Good morning everyone and Happy Monday. I haven’t had frozen yogurt in years and use chopsticks when I eat Asian food. I had to learn how to use them really fast when I was invited to a Chinese wedding in San Francisco back in 1973. I’ll pass on the meal and wine and drink. Yesterday we went to the movies, another retro movie, Pillow Talk. I just love seeing the old ones on the big screen and they are only $5 too. It’s really nice having a movie theater that has recliner chairs so close to us. Next week is Titanic, it’s the 25th anniversary and has been remastered. Joy @Seasick Sailor, I hope nothing is broken and you start to have less pain soon. From the Care list: RIP Hal Sailer’s DSIL 2/3/23 RIP Cat Shepard’s nephew 2/4/23 RIP Bennybear’s aunt 2/5/23 Condolences to @HAL Sailer, @cat shepard and @bennybear
  6. Oh Vanessa, that is so funny to me! When I renewed our passports they definitely didn’t come from Tucson. I hope it isn’t delayed much longer. BTW, all the mail here goes to Phoenix before going anywhere else. So if I mail something to someone locally it goes to Phoenix and then comes back to Tucson for delivery. Crazy.
  7. Good morning everyone and Happy Saturday. Great collection of days today. I love stuffed mushrooms. I like ice cream but probably not for breakfast unless it was in my iced coffee kind of like a float. Meat pie sounds good too and back in our early years of marriage I made the impossible pie one a lot, it uses biscuit mix like Bisquick, and is easy to make. I stopped making it when I started cooking more and made a conscious decision to stop using so many prepared ingredients like canned soup, etc. Joy @Seasick Sailor, ouch on your fall and I hope your ribs feel better soon. You may have just bruised it really bad. I was thinking about a different sauce for your pork chops and I sometimes make smothered pork chops, it’s gravy but has peppers and onions in it. I’ve made this one: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ree-drummond/smothered-pork-chops-3111103 Roy @rafinmd, good to hear you had a better night sleep and it sounds like you are improving. Baby steps. We were in Huatulco on our Volendam Panama Canal cruise April 2000. I think all we have are video tapes. We took a tour much like the boat tour Lenda @Quartzsite Cruisermentioned and one reason why I don’t drink tequila anymore. Enough said. Sandi @StLouisCruisers, thank you for all your help in starting the Daily and Lists. I hope you have a great cruise! I would offer to help but don’t get up early enough, and since I live in the west it’s even later for most of the Daily family. Have a great day everyone!
  8. The next day we had a Sonoma wine country tour. We had fun with Maxine @AncientWanderer and her DH and Jane @lazey1. We we went to several wineries and stopped in the town of Sonoma for some free time. Craig and I ate here: Craig had a Negroni and I had wine, I guess I hadn’t had enough earlier. Quiche for me and mussels for Craig. I took this that evening during sail away. The Ghirardelli sign is in the middle window.
  9. When we were on the Koningsdam October 2021 we sailed in very early, stayed overnight and sailed away late. This was where we docked and our view from our verandah. We had a tour that afternoon and planned an early dim sum lunch at Yank Sing. Unfortunately we went when they had strict covid protocols and there wasn’t a trolley but we really enjoyed the food. Honey walnut shrimp: Some kind of siu mai, I think shrimp: A favorite of mine, turnip cake (did you know that there are no turnips? It’s made with daikon radish): Our tour to Muir Woods was lovely but short. I would have loved more time there. After Muir Woods we went to Sausalito but I don’t have any pictures. I think Craig took some. It was a nice day with great scenery. I’m going to post the pictures from the next day separately.
  10. Good morning! I’m in a rush this morning to get ready to take DM to an appointment. I wanted to post this picture from San Francisco taken on our Koningsdam Pacific Coastal cruise October 2021. I’ll post more later. We sailed into and out of SF in the dark so this was the best picture of the Golden Gate Bridge from the ship.
  11. Melisa and DH, I am so sorry for the loss of DSIL and “is blessedly now at peace”.
  12. I had jobs that I had to use carbon paper and ditto machine paper, both were a mess to fix mistakes on. And a mimeograph machine. Oh, and one job I also had a folding machine which made quite the noise.
  13. 🐇🐇🐇 Good morning everyone and Happy Wednesday. I’d be proud to be called a spunky old broad. I never talk politics and get really upset with my brother when he just won’t stop. We should all celebrate our freedom. It’s funny that today’s meal suggestion is miso cod because I have some black cod in a miso marinade in the fridge for tomorrow. It’s similar to the third recipe and very easy to make. It works on any type of fish too, I just had some black cod, aka sablefish, in the freezer. https://www.sitkasalmonshares.com/blogs/culinary/recipes/nobu-style-sablefish-rice-bowl I don’t bother with the first step of cooking it on the stovetop, it comes out just as good using the oven and a short blast from the broiler. One really nice thing about sablefish is it actually tastes better overcooked which really helps in this recipe. I’ll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow. Good news about Roy going home tonight. Have a great day everyone!
  14. Maxine, I’m glad I helped in some way. I’m also going to look into arriving an extra day early. But tomorrow, like Scarlet.
  15. Good evening. So much happening today. Planning a vacation sounds like a good day to celebrate. I’m still planning parts of my April cruise. After all the talk about problems with flights I’m wondering if I should travel to FLL two days early instead of the one day I’ve already scheduled. The sleep discussion is interesting. I’m similar to Carolyn @Cruising-along I sleep about 3-4 hours then am awake a bit, sometimes it’s a long time, then sleep about 3 more hours unless I have an early appointment. And as most of you know I am an avid nap taker. Always have been, even when I was a teenager and young adult. I couldn’t get by without a nap. When I was working I would live for my days off just for the nap. I love clam chowder and think I would like it with green chilies. I actually buy a huge container of Hatch green chilies because I use so many in my cooking that those little cans just don’t cut it. I’m almost out so need to restock. Graham @grapau27, nice to hear Sarah is feeling better. I’m really enjoying your food pictures and can’t wait to find out where you have been eating. Joy @Seasick Sailor, ouch on the oral surgery and that “pop” would sure startle me. I wish I was closer so I could deliver some white wine. Get better. Roy @rafinmd, it sounds like you are progressing even though it probably doesn’t seem like it to you. Take care and get better. Annie @marshhawk, I’ve been trying to think of something that would help Fawn’s ear but haven’t figured anything out. Could you just ask the vet for ear crud drops? I’m glad she feels good enough for belly rubs and loving. Have a great evening!
  16. Good morning everyone and Happy Monday. I think our crazy freezing weather has moved on, that might be why Texas is so cold. Our low was 36F and warming up to the mid 60’s. Well, I had to reread Roy’s @rafinmd post three times to let it sink in what that nurse said. I just don’t believe that anyone can predict how your recovery will progress, especially since you were just recently diagnosed and hospitalized. I agree with everyone else that a discussion with your physician is in order. Gerry @ger_77, I’m not a ceramic expert by any means, but have you washed it in the dishwasher? It’s possible that it isn’t dishwasher safe. I bought a mug for Craig once that has a “C” on it not realizing it wasn’t dishwasher safe, I think it’s because of the decorative painting, and it now is sitting on top of the kitchen cabinets never used. @GTVCRUISER and @Heartgrove, welcome home! @kochleffel, congratulations on the upsell! Joy @Seasick Sailor, I’m glad that the worst part of the dental work is over. Take care. Have a great day everyone!
  17. Annie, from the Know Before You Go area on the HAL website: If you do not want to use a credit or debit card, on the day of boarding, you will need to visit Guest Services and deposit $60 cash per person per cruise day. Any excess deposit will be refunded to you at the end of the cruise. Traveler’s checks may be cashed at Guest Services. Personal checks are not accepted on board.
  18. Annie, as the others said it is a hold per day, even if you prepay for anything. I used to work with a lady who went on an Alaskan HAL cruise and had problems using her debit card because it wouldn't hold the daily full amount for the length of the cruise (I forget the exact amount) and had to call her bank to get it settled. So make sure to use a credit card. The Italian restaurant, Canaletto, is a charge per person, not per dish. And, yes, you can each order your own dish. I do have to say it isn't our favorite restaurant and we've only eaten there once in all our BHB cruising. My favorite specialty restaurant is the Pinnacle Grill but for lunch. On my upcoming cruise I have 3 specialty dinners and am not sure I really need them......
  19. @HAL Sailer -- a very Happy Birthday, although belated, to you! Sure sounds like you have been busy, what a mess, but it sounds like you have things taken care of.
  20. A few more pictures: Museum of Newport History: Craig remembers that one of the next two buildings are famous for having George Washington stay there but he isn't sure which one.
  21. Good evening! We were in Newport on our wonderful Canada/New England cruise from New York to Quebec City in August 2009 on the Eurodam. DM was along for that cruise and we three had a great time. The day we were in Newport DM & I took a tour to the mansions and Craig went on a walking tour. He had the camera and since this was pre iphones I have no pictures of the mansions. The church where JFK and Jackie were married in 1953. On our mansions tour we saw the sprawling estate where she lived when she was younger (from a distance, not inside). Craig's tour didn't go inside the church but he did get this outside view. The day had turned cloudy.
  22. I have had that same experience. Once, while anchored off Sitka, we ate in the PG. What a wonderful experience, it was rainy and dreary and eating a wonderful meal in the PG at a window table watching the mist was magical.
  23. I have struggled with low sodium levels myself and still don’t know why. But I did find out that it is not necessarily anything to do with your salt intake. IIRC it can happen when you over hydrate.
  24. That sounds like a great plan. I’m going solo on a longer for me cruise and am trying to figure out if I want one big suitcase or two small ones. Graham your pizza looks wonderful and on a white tablecloth to boot! Nice to hear that Sarah is feeling a bit better and getting much deserved rest.
