  1. I haven't had good luck with the pre-concierge with previous cruises. Although I don't ask for much, I've asked for my fridge to be emptied....and so far, that's not happened except the one time I was in a GV. I'm hoping I will have better luck with the Escape!

  2. I'll be cruising on the Escape in 147 days....a loooong 21 weeks away (but who's counting)!! It will just be me (55) and my sister (63). We've both sailed NCL before - Curious - was there anyone at the Escape room our age...or just families? This is one thing that the other NCL ships we've sailed on doesn't have....and I'm pretty excited to try it out - but I don't want to feel out of place (silly, I know)!!

You have a way with words...and made our wait almost more tolerable! BTW....as a critical care RN, and I'm super happy that you had your DD checked out in medical! Although I only have adults in my ICU, a concussion should never NOT be considered! Thankfully your precious DD is OK!!

  3. Big rooms and the pool is great. The bar/restaurant in the lobby is a good option for Caribbean inspired food, or walk a couple of blocks to Bin 18 (Biscayne and 18th) for great tapas and an extensive wine and craft beer list.

YES! Bin 18! I couldn't remember the name! Fabulous tapas!!

  4. I have stayed there! Nice hotel, but if you want a bayview room, just be prepared to walk "forever" from the elevator to your room! Great pool, too!

There are restaurants within walking distance, but I haven't stayed there in about 5 years, so I can't really remember which ones...sorry!

One thing to keep in mind is that the free Metro Mover has a stop really close by....you can hop on that and go to Mary Brickell Village or even Bayside Market (if you're into the touristy-type places). My recommendation would be to Google Mary Brickell Village....TONS of really good restaurants, shopping and (ahem) places for adult beverages!!

  5. I've flown into LGA and stayed in Times Square twice. We used Super Shuttle (private sedan) both times with great success! No stress...even though traffic is crazy! I think I paid $100 for a private sedan (turned out to be a Lincoln Navigator) for four of us plus luggage! Best money I ever spent! If you don't want to spend that much, I check out the approximate cost for Uber.

Yes, the Gem does sail past Lady Liberty - and I hope you have a starboard balcony!! It was nice to sail past her in the privacy of our own balcony!!

  6. I'm 25 points away from being Platinum Plus and I'm happy as heck! I did notice that there are additions to the Platinum level....like "dinner for two at Cagney's or Le Bistro" AND "dinner for two at Moderno or La Cucina". Prior to the changes, we were offered only one dinner for two. Granted it's per stateroom now versus per Platinum cruiser, but I think this is definitely an added benefit!

With that being said, even if they took away all the free dinners, I'd still be happy with priority embarkation and disembarkation! ;)

  7. Actually the Sky is different, because the open bar offer is included in the price of the cruise, for everyone. When you get a drink that is covered by this offer, they don't swipe your card, so they can't collect taxes. (I haven't been on the Sky so please correct if I'm wrong.)

If you order a drink that is not included, then you have to pay for it and I guess you will pay Florida or Bahamas tax (if the ship is in Floridian or Bahamian territorial waters).

I was on the Sky in August.

Short answer - unless you order something that isn't included, you will not be charged the sales tax. :D

  8. If you are bidding only $100 less than listed, why not just pay listed amount and receive all the perks?

I can't even bid due to agency I booked with. Reading about peeps who bid up to better cabins than I am paying full price for, for far less. Doesn't seem fair some didn't even get the chance, but it is what it is. Sigh.

That is exactly why I'm not paying the full price for a 2BR! I've paid full-price for the aft PH...and would like a teeny-tiny discount for a change!

  9. I upped my bid $100/pp more which equals only $100/pp less that listed price to move from Aft PH to 2BR Haven. The cabins disappear when I do a fake booking....then reappear the next time I do a fake booking. 5 days out and still suites available for the taking.....but no letter. I am very happy where I am but would love to move up to a suite closer to the Haven itself!

  10. I really don't like this BID process. I canceled one of categories that I placed a bid on and increase my amounts on 2 of them so that it would be in the fair piece of the pie. I was hoping that would've gotten me the upgrade but it didn't. I'm really close to just dropping out all together. I don't have enough patience for this crap.

I'm not a fan either! My quote was a total of $300 less than full price and it was deemed low! Just checked and all 2 BR are gone so I guess I'm "stuck" with my aft PH!

  11. Hi,

I am sailing on the Getaway on November 27, has any one received any answer to their bids for that sailing? I received my email more than a month ago, but I have not received any answer, and the cabins are not moving either.

I put in a bid 3 weeks ago for the 11/27 Getaway cruise and have heard nothing yet!

  12. I've had Butlers ask what we wanted - or noticed what we snacked on the most - and others just bring snacks that went untouched. Won't hurt to let him/her know your likes and dislikes, but don't get upset if they just bring the same things to you as the others in the suites. ;) Sorry - I can't help you with the over-the-door question.

Take good care of the ship....we will be boarding the day you disembark.

  13. Hello, I would like to rent a car just for the day after my cruise ends on 1.2.17. I would need to return the car to FLL late that evening. Does anyone know the specific name and location of a rental car agency that has a free shuttle to their pick-up location. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I always use Alamo. Pick up the shuttle at the port to MIA and return the rental at FLL. Just be aware that there are cashless toll roads on the way! There is usually a Sunpass in the car, but the rental agencies gouge you with additional fees to use theirs! I've learned how to go without hitting a toll road but I honestly can't tell you as I go by landmarks - or visual cues if you will! A couple cruises ago I picked up a portable Sunpass at Publix and carry it with me just in case.

Someone from that area will be able to give you more clear information. I'm really good with directions....but only in the north!!
