  1. Maybe Amtrak would work for you? Although it can be pricy to go south, and the routes/times are not always the most convenient.

Location in Central PA they are probably at least 30 miles from the closest Amtrak station, which might be a flag stop. From there it would be Pennsylvanian to Harrisburg or PHL, then one of the Silvers overnight to FL. Cheaper perhaps if you go coach all the way, but although seats are much more comfortable than airline seats, it really isn't restful. I wouldn't do it without a sleeper, which can cost a lot more than airfare. EM

  2. I just found an interesting one from Princess to Southern Caribbean on Caribbean Prince.... they only have interior or oceanview available (either in front near laundromat or obstructed)... I figure near laundromat is not a good idea is it?

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Princess laundromats are closed from 10pm until 8am and although I have had a cabin across from it, it was not a problem. On the Princess forum here, there is a mamber with a website full of pictures of the views from various obstructed OV cabins. EM

  3. The last night of the first cruise they will leave a letter in your cabin telling you the procedure for the next day, and maybe the Sail & Sign card for the next cruise. You will leave the ship after everyone else, just to zero down the ship, and go through immigration. Not customs. Make sure Carnival knows to link the two cruises. Tell your cabin steward you are staying on for the next cruise. Sleep in, if you can. (There will be a lot of noise in the passageways). EM

  4. I had my gallbladder removed on July 29 and went on a 7 day cruise Aug. 22. In between I flew down to MIA and back the same day for my Global Entry interview. I had laparoscopic surgery and could have eaten supper that night, except I had such a sore throat from the intubation and dry mouth from the medication to dry up secretions....Supper was a strawberry banana smoothie from McD. It flt so good on my throat. It took me until the following Tuesday to be back to walking 2-3 miles in the morning. I am 72. YMMV. EM

  5. This is a quad inside with one bunk down and king bed.

This is an inside quad with beds separated:

This was our inside with twins on the same wall:

We moved my bed to the opposite wall and gave us lots of space:

Not sure if the wood from the bunk would allow the one twin to be on the back wall. EM

  6. I found this.... "MOBILE PASSPORT service is currently available at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), Miami International Airport (MIA), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO), with more airport locations to follow."

You are a bit out of date. According to the website http://www.mobilepassport.us/

It is live at 20 airports and one cruiseport (FLL). EM

  7. I have had mixed experiences doing B2Bs on Celebrity. You can leave you hanging things on the hangers and pack the stuff in the drawers in your suitcases. Sometimes the steward will be ablt to get a cart, sometimes not. Maybe it depends on the steward. Unlike HAL and Princess, where I had free access to my cabin on turnaround day, X did not want you there. I got my stuff transferred, but the steward said I couldn't come back until after 1pm, so my stuff stayed packed until then. I was on a B2B2B so I didn't have to change between the 2/3 cruises, and on Millie I found the door in the library that I could use to get to my cabin corridor. On Infinity, we needed to get to an appt in FLL on turnaround day, had a limo waiting, and there seemed to be no movement in the second cabin getting ready. So I finally dragged everything myself and set it outside the new cabin. That spurred the steward to getting it done. If you ask on the Celebrity board here, you can get more experiences. EM

  8. We are long tired of dragging suitcases through airports and terminals, or to hotels (Venice). So we are down to a carry-on max rollaboard spinner, and a backpack. the carryon is hard sided and has a zipper in the middle, and is expandable. The suitcase has to have a handle on the side and/or bottom to make it easier to get into the overhead compartment. And must have one completely zipped compartment inside. the backpack , must have a strap on the back so that it can slip down over the handle of the carry-on. The plus for a suitcase with the zipper in the middle is that it doesn't tip when loaded. This is all we take no matter how long the cruise. Next cruise is 21 days... We are 72/73. EM

  9. MSC is running a BOGO offer, two for the price of one. The last time they did this, someone posted that they were able to add on the Kids Sail Free to it. But on MSC, be aware that in the quad inside and OV cabins the bunks are on the side walls, although the cabins are very spacious. The standard balcony cabin does not have bunks: the kids have to share a foldout couch. EM

  10. Welcome to Cruise Critic. I think it's time for you to find your way over the ROLL CALL boards here and see if there is a ROLL CALL for your cruise. That's where other CC members on your cruise will be full of discussion about excursions, and organizing independent excursions. They may even have one that appeals to you. To find your ROLL CALL, go back to the main boards page, scroll down to ROLL CALLS, click on your cruise line, then your ship, and look for a thread with the dates for your cruise. In addition, visit the Ports of Call boards here for your ports and see if anyone has experience with that tour organizer. EM
