  1. When it first came on (The Talk) I told DW that remember when we use to watch the Love Boat and thought that all of the cabins were as large as Captain Stubing's. All of the passageways were fifteen feet wide and the CD always went around and talked to all of the passengers.

  2. My "guess" is that the rep she talked with thought that she wanted the FTTF on the second leg to embark early. Knowing she was doing a B2B, the rep told her that she didn't need it for the second leg. What the rep probably didn't know was that her husband had an early diving excursion and needed to be on the tender early.

  3. One is self-serve, the other is served. If you contaminate yourself, that's on you.

Plus the plates, etc. are different. Extra time and expense to separate and get them back to the proper place. Additionally it is underwhelming what some passengers steal.

There will always be some who will try to bend or break rules.

But once it's served, it's served. You could sit in the MDR and wait until the food is cold, then what. Half of the time lately the passengers have been complaining about being served cold food anyway.

I can see the plates getting back to the proper place but it's not like everybody on the whole ship takes their plates back. Have you ever walked down the passageways and not seen trays with plates sitting on the floor?

  4. Ask your sister that the food in the buffets has to be served at a set temp. So when you take it to your room it is different story. so it is ok to get sick off of buffets food but not MDR food

That's what I was trying to figure out. People say you can't take it back to your cabin from the MDR but they will allow it from the buffet. What difference does it make. Either way, it has to be served at a certain temperature and either way, it's cold by the time you get it to your cabin. That makes no sense at all.

  5. By the time you get on the Freedom, it will have undergone a major dry dock, so it's sort of irrelevant to seek current opinions on the ship.

I say this because I'd hate to see you scared off from it. I was on the Freedom two weeks ago and it was BY FAR the ugliest Carnival ship I've been on. The service was poor too. However, I still had an amazing time and I am convinced that the ship will look amazing once it comes out of dry dock. All of the other ships have...

This just proves that no two people's opinions are the same. We sailed on her in February on an 8 day cruise and loved her. The crew was the most friendliest we have come across in seven cruises. The decor was different but we thought by no means ugly. We still think she was the best ship we've been on so far.

  6.

If you were to be thrown back in time to "old time" cruising - the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc. - what is the one thing that strikes you as VERY different than cruising now??

Back then I was a Marine and it was on a Navy ship. Back then the ships were gray, now they're white. Back then I called them "Sir", now they call me "Sir". I don't miss any of it. :)

  7. We put up two trees, one in the living room and one in the family room. The living room has the traditional ornaments on it. The one in the family room has a dated ornament from each year since we were married (1979). We also buy ornaments from every island we have visited and put them on the tree too. There are several cruise ship ornaments too. Most islands have ornaments with the island name on them. There is a great store here in Michigan that sells all kinds of ornaments that have to do with anything from camping to cruising. They have a website. Just google "Bronners". They will even paint names or dates on them.

  8. I am staying in 925- something interior lido deck room. Will I like this? I got sold that it's nice to walk out to everything. Is this true? I'm not stuck in the old fogie area am I?? Thanks!

You will really enjoy the Lido or the Panorama Decks. The cabin areas are shorter so there is less foot traffic. It's a quick walk to the buffet area in the morning for your coffee, quick walk back to your cabin if you forget something, use your own bathroom instead of the public ones by the pools, etc.

As far as being stuck in the old fogie area, only if you have an old fogie in your cabin. Out of seven cruises, other than family, I couldnt tell you who was next to us. You don't see your neighbors to interact with them anyway. There's a good chance that if there is some old fogies next to you, you won't have to worry about them smoking pot or playing loud hard rock music until the wee hours of the morning. :D

  9. So surprised everyone saying how quiet it is on the lido!!! Read all the responses to my DH and we are calling to change to the lido deck today! Thanks again everyone!

Make sure you ask before you book them if the balconies connect or not. They can tell you which ones do or don't. I wish the deck plans would have that info on them.

  10. Hello there,

We just took our first cruise to Nassau on Royal Caribbean and we are thinking about going on a Carnival ship for our next cruise because of pricing. We are already planning ahead and so I need some recommendations on which Carnival ships are the best ones to cruise on based on what they offer on board, food selection/quality etc. Ive hear the larger ships are better so interested in all suggestions.

We are going to do a western caribbean cruise this time around. Thanks

After reading all of these suggestions, I guess your best bet is to see what size ship Carnival has that compares to the one you were on with Royal Caribbean. You know you liked that size so see what's comparable with Carnival.

  11. I've only been on 2 ships, the Triumph and the Magic (both out of Galveston). I love, love the Triumph and really didn't like the Magic. It was just too big, too many people, poor planning on the shows (you had to get there 45 minutes early to get a seat).

It's funny to see others say the Magic is their favorite, it really is a personal preference as to larger or smaller ship. How big was your Royal ship and did you like the size?

I agree 100%. We went on the Dream and would never do that class again. Just too crowded. You couldn't even walk through the pool area on the Lido deck on sea days without going elbow to elbow with other passengers.

  12. I've often wondered if they wash the robes between each passenger change. Even with no brown streak (YUCK!) how would you know? That's a lot of robes to have back in the rooms before the next people get on. Basically they would have to have two sets I would think.

No different than the sheets on the beds. I'm sure they have hundreds on each ship for use plus the ones they sell.

  13. Do you have to join a Player's Club while on board or is the fact that your card is in the slot with your info on it good enough???

As soon as you set up your account on one of the machines with your card, you are automatically into the system. We have never been offered a free cruise but on the last one, we got a discount on the cruise plus $50 cash each. We figured that they would just put it on our cards but they actually handed us the $50 cash.

I'm wondering if anyone that has gotten the free cruise offer has tried to up-grade (by paying extra) to a better cabin.

  14. Agree

I was under the impression that this was how you signed up for cell phone alerts, Carnival's program to alert guests who may be "in route" of important last minute changes in their cruise.

If so I am guessing Carnival's website requires some amount of purchase price and the penny probably will not actually be charged. I don't own a cell phone so I'm not sure my info is accurate.

No, if you put your cell phone number in your personal information when you fill out your documents, you are automatically notified by cell phone if they need to contact you.
