  1. We don't have a favorite CD but we thought Assistant CD Chris Jefferson was the best. He was funny without being fake like most of the CDs we've had.

Adult son was in the hairy chest contest. Chris told him his chest looked like an owl. From then on, people would come up to him and ask to see his owl. Chris even took his shirt off and the camera man zoomed in on his chest to show off his one hair.

  2. I went on the Dream when it first came out, it was ok. Going on the Freedom in 2 weeks - looking forward to that. With regards to seeing your daughter? in Orlando? Why not fly to Orlando a day or two early, visit, rent a car and drive to Port Canavaral - it's about a 3 hour ride. You could fly back to your home from Ft. Lauderdale - just a thought. I'd go for the 8 day with friends.

It's only about an hour drive or less depending on the traffic. We've done it in 50 minutes going the speed limit.

  3. Having done both, I would choose the Freedom over the Dream. We didn't like the layout of the Lido Deck main pool. It felt too closed in. The crew on the Freedom is the best we have ever encountered. They are so friendly and helpful.

We had Panorama cabins on both ships. On the Dream, you can't see directly down. The Promenade deck sticks out blocking your view.

  4. They probably do, but they have limited devices that hold them open. What you have to do is one person from each cabin has to go to guest services and request it. Go as soon as you get on. It probably won't be open until the next day though.

It's only the Spirit class that needs the devices to hold them open. They will not open the divider if it blocks the door. The cabins are laid out back to back. Window,door/divider/door, window/divider/window, door etc. The only ones they will open is the window/divider/window.

DB/SIL was in the cabin next to us. We had the window/divider/window set up. We both went down to Guest Services and requested it. They checked to make sure it could be done. Within an hour our cabin steward opened it up for us. There was a pin on top of the divider that hooked onto the side of the ship. It blocked half of our window.

  5. I would think if someone retiring from the US Navy that commanded an aircraft carrier for years would certainly be able to captain a cruise ship around the mediteranian ... don't ya think?

Like I said ... Lots of American 474 Captains .... but no American cruise ship Captains

    Just seems strange to me

In my opinion, someone retiring from the US Navy after commanding an aircraft carrier for years is more than likely set for life with his pension and doesn't need to work for the cruise industry.

Out of curosity, did you mean 747?

  6. Thanks for your replys. I thought they might have added the little make-up mirrors in the bathrooms (for people that cant see to put their make-up on) lol Also are there any places to eat on the Panorama deck ? 3 months and counting!:)

do all the balcony cabins have the blow dryer in the desk? victory didnt have those.

    baf

The Point Steakhouse and the upper seating level of the Lido Buffet are on the Panorama deck.

All blacony cabins have the blow dryer in the desk.

Hey, I've finally hit Blue Ribbon Cruiser after all these years!

  7. I could be wrong but if the cruise line doesn't give 100% of the tips it's income tax withholding. Which the cash tips should be claimed (and I know they don't always) and withholdings calculated. The cruise lines have to justify all their wages and especially gratuities to internal auditors and DoL audits especially since they claim lower wages supplemented by gratuities.

And I could be wrong but the ships aren't registered in the US so I doubt if the workers would be paying income tax.

  8. Who has stayed in room 1052 on the Conquest? Do all the bathrooms have make-up mirrors on the walls? Tell me about this room...good, bad and the ugly?

I'm also curious about this...my friend and I are booked in 1066 and are looking at a nearby interior for my sister's family. We've only stayed on deck 4 before, so this is quite a different location from what we are used to.

1052 is an inside cabin, 1066 is a blacony cabin. The bathrooms have huge mirrors from the sink to the ceiling and go all the way across that wall. I can't speak for the inside cabin but the balcony cabins also have a desk like area with a mirror on the wall above the desk. There is also a hair drier in the top drawer next to the desk. It's wired direct so you can't take it into the bathroom.

The cabins are basically the same as in a lower deck. The only difference is that you are higher up.

1066 is the first cabin on the Panorama deck on the port side. (Left side facing the front of the ship.) Both cabins are close to the elevators. You are both close to the action on the Lido deck which makes it great if you want to run back to your cabin for something. It's especially nice on sea days to be able to run back and use your own bathroom.

We have had Panorama deck cabins on the Conquest, Glory, Dream and are booked for one on the Freedom. We love them. Very little foot traffic, no noise to speak of from the Lido Deck.

As for "ugly", we haven't found anything that we dislike about that deck yet.

  9. And by "each guest" I am assuming that means both me and my bf may bring a 12-pack of soda (in different carry-ons obviously)?

You are correct. And you can replenish your supply at any port with no questions asked. I've done it before and never had a problem. The only downfall is that soda purchased on the different islands won't taste exactly the same as what you are use to because of the water they use to process it. It's still good, just tastes a little different.

  10. when I tell others who cruise that have never cruised on carnival that I sail with Carnival most immediately say they would never cruise with Carnival, due to the excessive partying that goes on.

I dont drink and have never noticed this...and I would notice it if it was around me...I just dont get it.

That's the bottom line right there. They have never cruised on Carnival before and are going by what their hair dresser's cousin's pool boys aunt's sister's ex-boyfirend's third cousin told them that happened on the Mardi Gras back in the 80's.

For the most part on anything longer than 5 days, they are Fun Ships, not Party Ships.

Out of five Carnival cruises, we've only seen one guy that had too much to drink and he wasn't real drunk, just kind of obnoxious.

  11. With four people, I would suggest renting a van. That way you will have plenty of room for your luggage and passengers. Budget is close to the port. It will give you an opportunity to see some of the area and pick up anything extra that you didn't want to take on the plane. (Sodas, water, etc.)

What we have done twice now is rent a vehicle, stay at the Radisson at the Port, drive around the area and do some shopping or go out to eat. Then on the morning of the cruise, I take the vehicle back to Budget and the rest of our party stays at the hotel. Then I get on the Budget shuttle and they drop me off at the Radisson on their way to the ship. I then rejoin our party and take the Radisson shuttle to the ship.

We stay at the Radisson for a day or two after the cruise. Same thing in reverse. Party takes the Radisson shuttle to the hotel. I take the Budget shuttle and get another vehicle and head to the hotel. Then we drop off the vehicle at the airport. No charge for dropping it off at another location either. If you do rent a vehicle, make sure you fill it back up before leaving PC. Gas around the airport is a huge rip-off. I forgot to do it and wound up paying close to $8 a gallon through Budget.

  12. Not Platinum...probably never will be. We used it on our last cruise on the Dream. Our cabin steward told us that we needed to put more in the bag. We thought we had it stuffed. Son and nephew were in the next cabin. She repacked their bag and told them the same thing.

As far as I was concerned, the clothes came back dingy looking and all of the elastic in my underwear was half melted from the heat. Like another poster said, it's almost better to pay the three bucks and do your own or wait until you get home.

In a way, I can see where the Platinum cruisers feel that they lost something. I can also see that if they were a couple and still get more than what they need, why waist time fretting over it. You still get enough, just not more than what you need.

Maybe it's because we've only cruised for 35 days on Carnival but we cruise for the experience on the ship, the included meals, entertainment, the different ports and just getting away. I have never booked a cruise for free laundry, pen and stationery, backpacks, photo frames, etc.

  13. From readign the posts here, It seems the operative word is "small". 10-12" fans seems to fall into the category of "personal items". Larger fams, box fans, etc seem to be no-nos

Blow dryers?!? Hell to the no! I NEED my blow dyer!

The big thing here is the cords must be in good physical condition. That is probably why those items were confiscated if they were on the allowed list.
