  1. I have thought that to be true since I first experienced the noise problem. Also, the fact that flat screen TV's have speakers pointed out the back so that noise is aimed at neighbor's wall is a factor. Understanding the cause makes for interesting discussion, but better insulation because of such factors should have been considered by competent engineers. It remains a problem, whatever the cause.
  2. True. Possible to drink well over half the calories contained in a Terrace Cafe lunch!
  3. Waves and Terrace ice cream are served identically. Same flavors usually. although sometimes, Waves has one or two more options.
  4. One of the reasons we book Concierge...to get earlier time window, but even then we had to agree to share with strangers to get early Red Ginger reservation for late January Vista cruise. I too stayed up til midnight and began booking at 12:01. Hopefully you can get better times when on the ship. t
  5. I have a concierge cabin on deck 9 for my upcoming 11 might cruise on Vista, same category and one deck down from where I was for 16 night cruise in November. I am sure the thin wall situation will be the same..just depends on luck of the draw as to my neighbor's degree of TV watching and their voice volume. That is why I am pretty sure this will be my last sailing on Vista.
  6. We board for 11 night cruise on Jan. 31. We are hoping that the luck of the draw will be with us this time, but even if it is, I doubt we will be cruising on Vista again. Too big a risk of us not getting sleep and significantly hampering our enjoyment if the cruise.
  7. Key reason Brazil postponed the visa requirement until April was cruise passengers and presumably other tourists were up against deadlines and the approval system had failed. Industry pressure had a lot to do with it. Seems like the rule will either be fixed or abandoned by 2024-2025 S.A. cruise season.

    Table for 2

Interesting. We have never had an issue.

    Table for 2

Yes, we tend to eat on the early side and have had to wait for table for two on R ships.
  10. Thanks for your review! We were on November 16 night Vista cruise. So many things to like about Vista. We will be returning to her later this month on a cruise we had already booked, but sadly we will not cruise on her again due to paper thin walls between the cabins. Could hear even low TV volume at night, but also conversations of neighbors. Truly unfortunate.

    Table for 2

THAT is huge disadvantage of O's four smaller "R" class ships. Never ever ever have had to wait for a table for two in GDR on larger O class shps or Vista.
  12. Clo, even without the reference by the questioner, you knew very well that Oceania, as most cruise lines do operate on Eastern (Miami) time. Just trying to be provocative as a resident of the Pacific time zone?????
  13. The questioner specifically asked about EST and I answered referring to the question.
  14. Yes, right after midnight on the date reservations open.
  15. Yes, and that is a 7 night cruise.
  16. Should be mentioned that if you cruise without a passport and need to leave the cruise in an emergency to fly home, you cannot do so without a passport. Big mistake to cruise without one.
  17. Yes, I posted 6 p.m. was opening time for specialties on our short cruise several years ago. The political climate at the time was such that the term " fake news" was just coming into vogue. I was accused of offering "fake news" and was actually pretty offended! Seems funny now in retrospect. Anyhow, as others have said, specialty, GDR and Terrace opening times are pretty consistently 6:30 p.m., but for some 7 night cruises they will open specialty restaurants at 6.p.m. in order to offer everyone a shot at getting specialty reservations.
  18. My comment was prefaced by saying that the virtual way of doing business was in my experience/preferences. I was not "making fun of" or referring to any "issues."
  19. IME whether a TA is physically located two miles or two thousand miles from my home is completely irrelevant. I currently use a cruise travel agency based in NM, working with one of their home based agents who lives in NC. I live part of the year in NY and also spend significant time in CA. Makes no difference, as the business is virtual these days.
  20. I have a passport, so not an issue for us, but I have heard that Celebrity will allow passengers without a passport on a closed loop cruise that stops in Martinique as long as they do not get off the ship at that port. Check with Celebrity and get confirmation in writing.
  21. This kind of attitude by staff personifies an unfortunate trend I am seeing from Oceania corporate as well as many onboard employees. Impression they give is that we are fortunate to get whatever benefits we do get, and Oceania can renege on any promise made to guests at any time.
  22. I agree, but seems that lately O has become more egregious with ridiculous changes to itinerary, shortening times in port, etc. The horrific way they handled recent Riviera cruise through Suez Canal, being the most egregious.
  23. I could not agree more. Simply More, not expanding shore excursion availability to meet increased demand, cancellation penalty, confusing promos, significantly changing itineraries with no opt out opportunities, added confusion/changes to book on board benefits, all in all not a good look for a cruise line we have really enjoyed. Still a great product, but will now book more cautiously and O will no longer be our automatic "go to" cruise line.
  24. If you are willing to pay for private transfers or are interested in touring Venice before or after a cruise, suggest Venice Quality Transfers. Run by a Brit who works with her Italian hubby in the business. Super dependable. We used them to go from VCE to a Celebrity cruise embarking in Ravenna last September. She (name is Trisha) is also great at offering logistics/advice. WHO WE ARE|VQTravels
