  1. Hi there. Taking the Allure in June to the Eastern Caribbean. Can anyone recommend any nice and safe beaches in Nassau and St. Thomas. Looking for something close by, walking distance would be ideal (not sure if this is realistic). Also, if transportation is required, how far, how long to get there, and mode. I've read taxis are a good way to get around, but it seems they charge by person? That adds up quick?!?!? Thanks in advance.

Paradise beach at Atlantis in Nassau is fantastic. Very safe, and friendly staff. We booked it through the ship and because Allure gets there so early you almost have the entire beach to yourself. After lounging on the beach you are free to tour Atlantis on your own. If you've never been to Atlantis it's worth the price to go. (IMO)

Magen's Bay in St. Thomas is beautiful and also very safe. Coki is a nice beach also but it is small for the amount of people usually there. Yes the taxi's do charge per person. I can't remember what the fare was but it was reasonable.

  2. I love that Royal doesn't charge a wine corkage fee. We like to bring a bottle of wine to the dining room with us.

Only one person needs to buy the drink package if the other doesn't want to. When they say both people have to buy it, it's like saying we don't trust you.

Entertainment and Ice show are fantastic on Royal.

You can check in for boarding when you want to instead of the staggered check in process that Carnival is very strict about.

The deposit is fully refundable up until final payment, allowing you to price match to a lower price if it becomes available. I believe Carnival will price match but you must book the early saver program (non refundable deposit).....We booked the Canadian Resident fare with Carnival which is fully refundable, but if the price drops then we are not eligible for the lower price.

I think both cruise lines will have their pros and cons. Also depends on the ship you choose. Adventure does have one of the best Itineraries IMO for the caribbean.

    Have a great cruise:)

  3. I read in another post that indicated that RC does not allow you to order multiple entrees in the MDR. Is that true?

Also with the soda package, on CCL, you get a sticker on your card and get a glass of soda filled from a can at any bar. Is that the same on RCCL?

You can order as many entrees as you like in the MDR

It seems to me you are focusing on all the negative points instead of the positive points. If you truly want to have a good time on Adventure it might help to look into all the great things Royal has to offer. Perhaps you are having a bit of buyers remorse on booking the Royal Caribbean cruise since all you know is Carnival. But trust me, go with a positive attitude and you will have a great cruise.:)

  4. It appears that while there is a Brito store on oasis on the boardwalk, it is nothing like the stores on Allure or Freedom - not a single figurine in sight for sale.

The gift shop has a few things but nothing major.

    Huge disappointment.

Does anyone know the back story to this? Seems very odd to have space on the boardwalk dedicated to something then not have any of the product there.

The Britto store is gone from Allure also. We are very sad about that.:( We've been collecting the word plaques and we were looking forward to buying more last month for DD Birthday. I had to scramble to find something else, since it was her birthday on the cruise.

  5. Thx happy cruiser. We are staying at the Embassy Suites. Is Coconuts or Quarter Deck far from there?

They are not within walking distance unfortunately. Both of those restaurants are near the beach. A cab would cost less then $10 to go to Coconuts from Embassy Suites and then you can spend a few hours on the beach boardwalk. There are great bars on the boardwalk that you could check out. And the beach is great.

We've never stayed at Embassy Suites but have heard from many who have and I think there are great restaurants within walking distance from there.

  6. Hello. Will be leaving out of FLL to cruise on Allure in August. Flying in the day before and looking for a great restaurant to try for dinner. Any recommendations? Thx in advance.

We like Coconuts on the intercostal waterway. Great seafood and atmosphere! If you stay near Las Olas Blvd. Quarter Deck is great, they have fun swinging tables. Best coconut shrimp I've ever tasted.

  7. We are leaving on the 12-26-16 on the Breeze . Does anyone know how long the Christmas decor stays up after the 25th? Is anyone going on this cruise .

Welcome to cruise critic. You may get an answer from someone who has cruised on the Breeze from the regular Carnival boards. But typically i think they keep the decor up until New years.

Breeze is a wonderful ship! You'll have an amazing time. :)

  8. Docked in St Lucia now. Bright sunshine with clear bright blue sky. Calm tropical breeze. This pier is even shorter than Antigua. Need government photo ID to reenter dock to ship at this port also.

Thanks for the live review. We're enjoying following along! We just booked Adventure yesterday when the new itineraries opened up. I can't wait to go to St.Lucia! Did the ship dock starboard or port to the pier?

  9. Put us in that group. Like $9.40 per day for us (including gratuity). Ouch.

Purchased two packages for our upcoming 8 night cruise, so about $150. That's like buying 25 cases (600 cans) in our area. Crazy.

    Dan

And that just includes soda from the machines. You can't even get soda in a can for that price.

  10. Prices on Allure are up for our March cruise.

Looks like they are playing the same "gouge the customer" games that they did at Christmas with raising prices for the popular sailing times. For those of you with peak summer cruises now may be the time to lock in your price.

Well that does it for me and DH, we're out. We will not be buying the drink package now. We barely broke even last year anyway. We will bring our two bottles of wine, and drink much less. My waist line and liver will thank me for it. I can spend that $1000 on something which rewards much more pleasure then alcohol.

Lucky for my kids I bought the Replenish package for them months ago when the price was reasonable. Otherwise they wouldn't be getting it either. :)

  11. Anyone know how much the character breakfast is on Allure? I can only see the Canadian amount.

Also, during non peak times, does it fill up? We're going mid April and all three days are currently available when I check through the website. I prefer to wait to book until we are onboard so we can use our OBC. We're fine with the 2nd or 3rd sea day but don't want to book for the first sea day.

It was $10 USD last year, so not sure if the price has gone up or not?.. The first character breakfast on our 2014 & 2015 cruise on Allure had Shrek and Fiona. So if certain characters are important to your kids you may want to ask the reservation desk if they can confirm which characters will be at each sitting.

  12. Expert RCCL Cruisers HELP!

Would it be violating anything on the ship to pack a small container for use on the cruise to obtain some snacks/appetizers to share in the cabin/suite? Sometimes we like to venture up to the Windjammer to look at the food selections. We have often said, "wow, that would be great to enjoy as late afternoon snack in the cabin." Example: Cheese/crackers, sliced fruit, other treats.

TO BE CLEAR WE DO NOT PLAN ON REMOVING FOOD FROM THE SHIP WHEN MAKING A PORT CALL.

    Any thoughts?

No problem at all!...Last year we needed to be off the ship by 6am to catch an early flight. The second last day before debarkation we got enough muffins for the next morning, because we knew we wouldn't have enough time for breakfast. The WJ staff put the muffins on a plate and wrapped them in plastic wrap. Next time I will bring a couple of zip lock bags so the staff won't need to go out of their way for us. You may not want to do this with dairy products however, because the cooler in your cabin is not as cold as a refrigerator and the food items my spoil.

  13. I'm really bummed. We booked the P2 (panoramic view) and because this category is sold out, my only choices are to go to a regular ocean view or a balcony. I am not comfortable being in a balcony with my children. I asked if she could just adjust the rate. She said I would have to cancel my reservation (lose my cabin) and "hope" that it was still available to rebook. So not happy right now.:mad:

I don't think you were given the correct information. We have never had to cancel and rebook to get a price adjustment. Your cabin should not change at all. I would call again and speak to another customer service rep. Often they give conflicting information. Good luck!

  14. That would be wonderful if Royal would offer a discount on the drink packages based on loyalty status. We are thinking of not purchasing the drink package for DH or myself because last year it wasn't worth it. We are platinum, and if we could get 20% off the purchase price we would definitely buy it. I hope they implement this fleet wide!

Great pictures! Thanks for posting! Have a great cruise.:)

  15. Not all ports have it yet. It's in Galveston and New Orleans I think. Maybe Miami too. Not yet in Port Canaveral but I believe it is being rolled out to each port.

Thanks for your reply Maggie! Vista will be sailing out of Miami when we go on her, but i guess they haven't started the staggered check in yet for that ship. I guess I will have to keep checking.

    Cheers

    Serena
