  1. Volijeep, since you stayed there, is this a good place to stay for a couple days if you just like to hang out at the pool and relax? Is everything close? Was dining expensive at the resort? Is the pool nice? We are an older couple who just wanted to hang out at the pool and relax for a couple days before our 10 day cruise. Thanks for your help.

  2. Sailed last year and had someone like you sprint up the gangway and knock me over as I walked up with my forearm crutches. And we were early boards.

Took the same trip as you and was right behind you in security line. (on my forearm crutch). Because of last year, I got a wheelchair to take me on board. Boarded with the back to back people.

Been in Posh before and enjoyed but it's not worth sprinting, elbowing and knocking people over to get.

  3. Did the Epic last week as well.

The thermal spa is worth the cost of the weekly pass. We used in the morning and then later in afternoon or evening every day. In the morning, we'd shower there instead of our cabin.

Have seen others complain about loud people in the thermal spa but we never encountered. Yes, people were talking. Your not required to take a vow of silence to enter. Sit back, relax, talk and enjoy.

I only have 1 gripe. Over serving.

Too many times we encountered people who were so drunk, they had trouble standing up, running in to walls or when we were at dinner at Shanghais, passed out on their table as they were about to order dinner.

This couple came in very drunk, were seated 2 tables from us and ordered drinks. Drinks were served and then we hear "bang". Girl is passed out on the table. Her BF couldn't wake her. Offered to help in any way but was refused. "She's fine, she's fine".

He finally gets her up and is trying to walk her back to their cabin and both collapse in the aisle. She hit hard. I asked him to take her to the ships doctor, just to be safe but he insisted she just needs to "sleep it off". 15 minutes later, he's back at his table (his food was served while he was away) he eats a little, orders 2 more drinks and then off to the casino.

We walked by the casino after our dinner and here they are cleaning up a huge barf mess. Guess who did.

  4. You are correct. I had a brain fart.

Looked thru my pics also and it was St. Thomas that we had 3. Sorry about that

DocB, look for Styles taxi if your interested in a island tour. We got a 3 hour tour (Hey Gilligan) of the whole island with stops at a beach, the rum distillery and some awesome picture sites. Only $20 per.

Interesting. Looking at my picture of the full dock, the only one there is Epic.
  5. There were 3 ships in port last week.

2 at the dock. One tendering.

As we came down the hill along Sir Francis Drake Drive, you could see 2 more at Virgin Gorda. One was a Windstar and the other looked like a Princess ship.

You could see all of them from way up high.

Just flipped through my pictures from my Epic sailing last week to try to help. Turns out we were the only ship in port at our stop in Tortola - at least when I returned from my excursion in the very early afternoon. Hopefully someone will come along who was in port with multiple ships recently! (PS - enjoy the Epic. She's just fantastic!)
  6. As Tim mentioned, keep checking in before leaving and also while on board.

We had 4 to 5 people who didn't show up when our group went out.

Thank you!! I made the call and the jet ski tour is sold out! We just booked our cruise two weeks ago so I expected this might happen.

I have really enjoyed your review. Excellent!!!

  7. I agree, Norway was the best. Started sailing with them late 70's and took over the flagship status in the 80's.

We were lucky enough to sail her in late 80's and then a couple more time in the 90's. Of all the ships NCL has in their history, the Norway was by far the best.

The island was just one long dock in the beginning. The tenders would dock and people would sprint down the dock for the best beach spot.

The BBQ was running full time as well. No designated hours as there is now.

And the food was prepared fresh. We would tell one end we wanted a burger, ribs or chicken and by the time we got to the end they were placing a freshly cooked patty on your bun or ribs on your plate.

Since you seem to enjoy history, and interesting information here is a Norwegian Cruise Line historical tidbit for you.

At Great Stirrup Cay, notice the large tender to the right in your pic of boarding the tender for the return to Epic? That is either Little Norway I or Little Norway II. They were tenders that were once carried aboard SS Norway, NCL's flagship back in the later 90s & early 2000s. It was my first cruise and got me hooked.

The interesting thing about these two tenders is that they were registered separately as indpendent ships, with their own call signs & signals. The fact that SS Norway carried them on the bow made SS Norway the only passenger ship to carry its own registered ships. Not boats.

Glad you enjoyed your cruise. Your whole adventure seemed epic including the cruise.

Hope you cruise again and post another fun to follow review.

    :):)

  8. Yes, everyone in the group put their belongings in one big locker and it's padlocked.

Wondering when you were in Great Stirrup Cay, are there lockers where you can put your belongings so you can go in and enjoy the water. Great review, doing the same cruise next year

  9. We did them last week and got an hour. It was a blast and highly recommend to everyone.

The snickerdoodle dessert was great too but my fave was the orange chocolate mousse. Yum.

Not sure what to expect on a Wave runner, I left all my stuff in the locker. Camera included. Sorry folks. But I'll detail what I can.

You file down to the dock and are ordered by those who have the most experience on a wave runner. From 10+ to zero. Those with more experience go with the first guide who will go much faster and those with no experience start off slower with another guide.

You sit on the waverunner and they push you off the dock and you are off.

You'll get about 30-45 minutes on the Wave Runner and I can certainly say that this was probably my second favorite thing I did on this trip, behind Stingray City. I had to stop and realize to myself that I actually had a big grin on my face and it was true love from there. I knew then and there I would have to get a Wave Runner sooner or later for personal use.

We did a tour of some of the back islands, including historical prohibition buildings that were still standing from rum runners as well as a stop a good 2-3 miles off shore to a sand bar similar to what we did at Stingray City. There you could get off and do some swimming or snorkeling. Wasn't much sea life around, but guides picked up a few Starfish so you could see them up close.

Finally we came back. I had an absolute blast.

  10. I think we will cancel. Our PCC told us there is no refund when we cancel less than 75 days before departure. Such a joke. I doubt 2 people canceling is difficult. Just tap a couple keys and poof, we are canceled.

We had to cancel transport with Celebrity due to a flight once, 22 days before departure, thanks to airline route change and they refunded us in full. No,questions asked.

  11. We are on board the Epic in Jan.

Our airline needs to change our flight to 11:30am. Otherwise, we are looking late in to the evening. Must be flight change/itinerary time of the year.

I use a wheelchair so would receive priority off and priority at airport.

For those who have been on recently, how early did they start letting people off?

  12. Naturally, Norwegian says disembarkation doesn't start after 8:am. We have their transportation booked and paid for. Think it's a bus.

Would it be better to use a private service and have PCC request early off? He said I would have priority off due to a wheelchair.

I assume they start earlier than 8am

  13. Is a 11.27am flight out of MCO a possibility to make? We are first class and I use a wheelchair so getting thru security shouldn't be a issue.

Norwegian says the ship doesn't start disembarkation until after 8am but we all know that most times its earlier.

I am not using their flight arrangements but we are on their shuttle to the airport. They said I could walk off but informed them I was rolling off and not able to take luggage off that way.

They said I could ask guest services once on board if "they could do it to help us make our flight but no guarantees"

She said Norwegian flight arrangements are guaranteed.

    Appreciate the help.

  14. The last day was a DISASTER.

Though, honestly I expected it. Check in was horrible, we left late, we were late to EVERY port, service was slow, why would debarkation be any different?

Those with carry off luggage were supposed to get off at 7:30 with others starting around 8. There were no announcements really and no one anywhere to guide or help people so it was mass chaos. We had escorted debarkation from the Haven, but even that was interesting, read late...

We went to wait with everyone else in the lounge as luggage still hadn't been cleared through customs at 8:30. When we finally get escorted off, we go between the lines that stretch literally the length of deck 7 and are led through a crew area to put us in line where our cards would be scanned for the last time. Then we wait in line for customs. And by wait I mean 30+ minutes, in line, moving very slowly.

When we get down the ramps to collect our luggage, we find that the gold and yellow tags are on the OPPOSITE side of the building. Meaning we have to get out of line, go find out bags, and then figure out how to get back in line. Someone stupid came up with this lay out. Porters were standing by saying no waiting, so we went with it. We got our luggage and then got in a porter line for customs. Zoom in and zoom out. Customs didn't even look at our declaration form. Tip the porter at the curb and DH is off to get the car. We had hoped to be off by 8:15, we were off at 9:20.

All in all, this cruise was not what I thought it would be. I had heard great things about NCL, and honestly it did not live up to the hype. Did we have fun, yes! Would I book another NCL cruise in the near future, no! People on board and who we were traveling with, who are platinum on many lines including NCL, said this was NOT how NCL is and it's a ship thing. While that may be true, we're platinum on Carnival, and while it has its faults, we've never had the issues we had on this cruise. The whole week felt like hurry up and wait, and wait some more. Hopefully the staff can get it together, though they can't really help some of the design issues on the ship.

How were the crowds at Spice?
