  1. There's a certain enjoyment, and learning, that comes from slogging through to figure it out on your own, but if you'd like help just ask. Lots of us here have done it many times and could share some hints that may not be obvious.
  2. If you're willing to try doing this on your own, using public transit, we can walk you through it step by step. City Sightseeing has come back post-Covid with their bus to Pompei, which may feel more comfortable than trying to navigate mass transit: Audioguide in 5 languages (city-sightseeing.it)
  3. There's only one functioning train station, everything goes there. There is a free shuttle bus that currently drops off a 1.8 km/1.1 miles from the train station. There is also a paid shuttle bus all the way to the station. In both cases you have to wait for everyone else. If you are berthed at the southern end of the port, #10 - #13, you can probably walk to the train station faster than the bus can get there, because it has to go north to the vehicle exit then double back to the train station. On foot you can go out the southern exit and be just a couple of blocks from the station.
  4. That's interesting, and possibly just lucky, since Viator isn't a tour company, it's a reseller. Your TA has no control over the operator who actually provides the service, so just because it went well in the past, there's no way to project that to the future. Have you posted on the roll call for your sailing to see if you can find others who want to do the same thing? A group tour like this will be a quick overview at each site, and that's it.
  5. Last week Trenitalia posted an update on the Civitavecchia service for 2022. The timing doesn't work for most cruise passengers unless their cruise ends in Rome but here it is. There is one morning CE train departing Civitavecchia at 9:07, arriving to Roma S. Pietro at 10:00 and Roma Ostiense at 10:10. There is one afternoon run departing Roma Ostiense at 16:30 (4:30 PM), stopping at Roma S. Pietro at 16:43 (4:43 PM) and arriving to Civitavecchia at 17:20 (5:20 PM). The fare is 10 euro each way, or 15 euro if you purchase both tickets together. Children up to 12 years of age ride free with an adult. This press release doesn't specify it but usually that means one child per adult. There is no fee for baggage. You are guaranteed a seat on this train, they only sell as many tickets as they have seats, but seats are not assigned. Note that this means if the train is sold out, any children under 12 will not get a seat. Trenitalia hasn't gotten around to updating the English language page on this topic but you can read the information here using google translate, if necessary: Ferrovie dello Stato (trenitalia.com)
