I received an email stating “Online check-in is now open for your voyage” at exactly 21 days to embarkation. There was additional information required to be filled in, including the input of your credit card information and a $1.00 transaction verification, as @Pushpit says.
When you have completed the above requirements you will be able to download your boarding pass with the assigned arrival time.

It's funny because it's common in many countries for everyone to keep to a certain side on pavements and footpaths, but when visitors to the UK ask what side people should keep, they are surprised to find that we don't do that in the UK. I just tell them to choose the side that the person coming towards you isn't on.

The above posts are so true! In the UK you will be dodging and weaving as everyone will be walking on whichever side they want. And even though, when driving, you will keep to the left and pass on the right, the opposite is true when on the escalators.
I do the same as @jay1283… choose the opposite side of the person coming toward you. I also tend to get behind someone else, when in a crowd, as they will lead the way and clear the path. Usually. 😜

Yes, @MadManOfBethesda, you are correct. The price differential for a Vista is definitely not worth it. I would get the verandah and then watch my emails for a paid upgrade offer (to a Neptune Suite) closer to the sailing date. If you book through a HAL PCC they will make sure you receive the offers. If you book through a TA you may not get them.

Not quite the same but last year we were on a Princess cruise which due to bad weather resulted in three ports being cancelled. Not only did we get some OBC but a significant FCC all without any asking and within a couple of days.
We were on a Princess TA in 2022 which was advertised as a Moroccan passage with a stop in the Azores. Not only did we not visit those ports but we did not receive any OBC nor a FCC. We also did not receive a reimbursement for the missed port fees. Needless to say, we have not sailed with Princess since. -
In the past, I have received and redeemed the Holland America offer on my Delta Amex card. There is not one currently, however. Sadly, I was unable to find the old threads on this topic. Someone would usually post the link and we’d be able to link the offer from there when it didn’t show up in your account.
Yes, @mistertomatoe, I do receive travel offers for the Delta card. Right now I can see Expedia, Caesars Las Vegas, Margaritaville Beach House Key West, and Lotte Hotel Seattle. When logged into the website there are completely different offers to the ones I see in the app.

Thank you, @cruzadict!

I did a search for this but the only result returned was a post on “drugs and meth”. 😳
Does anyone know if Clinique is sold in the shops on the Queen Mary 2?
Thank you.

BA has the notorious distinction of being the only airline to ever have lost my luggage in decades of flying.
Upon my return home I had to send letters and receipts to request compensation. Costs were far below the allowance provided as I was being quite frugal, given it was London. I wish I had just gone ahead and purchased what I needed instead of sticking to a tight budget. (Shopping for essentials during a vacation is not high on my list of things to do when I am on vacation.)
Having said that, United Airlines is the worst experience I have ever had flying First on a number of legs. I go out of my way to not ever fly with them again.

Apologies Rakkor if this is the same as you’ve just posted - I couldn’t open your file as I’m on board and using my phone so I’ve posted the current room service menu.
Thank you for posting the current menu! I wonder if you wouldn’t mind posting the breakfast card menu when you have a chance? (No hurry.) Thank you!

SATURDAY, APRIL 27TH
ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
After departing Dover, we were now on our way to disembarkation at Rotterdam, Netherlands. (For those of us not continuing on to Norway.) Around midnight or so, I could see all these red lights along our route:
At dawn they were much closer and I was able to make out that they were wind turbines. Tons and tons of them.
Here we are docked next to the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam:
Following breakfast, we headed to the Pinnacle Grill to pick up the wheelchair service for my mother. The crew member whisked us off the ship, through immigration, then over to the baggage claim in record time. Then it was out the door into the cold, wind, and rain. 🥶
We hadn’t accounted for being processed so quickly so we were about an hour earlier than the pre-arranged time for our car service. (Thank you, @VMax1700.) My sister gave the company a quick call and someone was able to collect us not long after. There is a taxi line readily available as soon as you step outside if you haven’t made alternate arrangements. It was moving steadily, although there was quite a line of people waiting.
The car service dropped us off at the Rotterdam train station. This is where we would jump on the P&O shuttle to the Europoort ferry terminal. We are taking the overnight ferry to Hull, England.

We will have a stop at Le Havre on our Rotterdam cruise in October. We are very interested in taking the tour that your daughter took. Could you share the independent tour operator please?
It was called Bee Le Havre. You’ll need to click on the “EN” button (top left) for the English version.
They pick you up right at the cruise terminal and drop you back off at the same place. As you exit the terminal, turn right and they will be at the side of the building.

To help us pack, I would appreciate your reactions on how warm the temperature was outside on sea days, both from FLL to the Azores and from the Azores to France. How about the temperatures inside in the public areas?
Thanks for your help.
Sorry for the delayed response! I hope I have caught you in time.
We had to divert north to Bermuda due to a medical emergency so it was cooler than it normally would be than if we’d gone straight to the Azores. From past experience, the weather will be warm for a few days out of FLL. We dressed in light layers and shed them as required.
The Lido Pool area was kept pretty warm with the top only partially open. One day we happened to see an engineer at the controls so we all started yelling “More! More!” Then we all cheered when he opened one side all the way instead of just a crack. 😂
I usually found myself needing a sweater or long-sleeved top indoors and out. It depends how your body feels temperature, though. Ponta Delgado was unseasonably warm so we were quite hot there. From there to France, it got quite cool.
Hope this helps!

Sorry, I'm not following. You said you must DECLARE EVERYTHING, yet you say "Just scan and go" which is not explicitly declaring. Can you please clarify.
Apologies. I think the lack of clarity is because we’re at cross-purposes. A poster said that her sister had her pass revoked due to not declaring the beer in her car. This means she was at a land border. Both you and CDNPolar asked if she hadn’t declared over her allowance. Since she was at a land border, I responded that everything must be declared whether she was over her allowance or not.
The eGates at the airport have a different process.
Hopefully, I have made things clearer and haven’t muddied the waters further. 😂

How do you "...declare all goods purchased and gifts received" when you use a kiosk, do not talk to a human and are not asked by the NEXUS "process" whether you have something to declare?
Just now, *Miss G* said:There are no questions at the eGates at Pearson. Just scan and go. If you have something to declare above your exemption, you do it after the eGate.
The focus of my response was with regard to the above. Land borders still require the full declaration.

Agreed... when and if you are asked by a living human.
If I am correct, the question on the screen - if this question exists anymore - asks if you are bringing in anything above your personal exemption? Yes? No?
I Googled but cannot find the specific question asked on the screen.
If I was asked by a live human, I would say "one bottle of liquor", one this, one that... even if it was under my exemption.
Is there a question on the screen now? The machines keep changing and the process seems to keep changing.
There are no questions at the eGates at Pearson. Just scan and go. If you have something to declare above your exemption, you do it after the eGate.

Now perhaps I am completely wrong with this but when I arrive back to Pearson airport and go through the Nexus line, I am only declaring that I have nothing above my limit. So if I only have one bottle of spirits and it's size meets the allowed volume, then I do not need to declare.
My understanding is that I only need to make a declaration if for instance duty free have a sale and I decide to bring 3 bottles then I have to say that I am over my limit and declare the additional.
In my understanding there is no top limit to what I can bring in as long as I actually declare what is above my personal limit for the length of the trip and be ready to pay the duty.
So the question begs to be asked, did your sister have more than her allowance for beer in the car?
Please set me straight here if I am not understanding this, otherwise I have defrauded my declaration at the Nexus Kiosk and then face-to-face each time I have returned to Canada when I have been brining in what is in or under my limit.
On 5/1/2024 at 6:22 AM, lx200gps said:This certainly is my understanding as well, and my first thought when I read that post was whether the sister had failed to declare something that was beyond their allowance. We've been NEXUS holders since program inception and rarely, if ever, exceed our allowance, but if we do, we certainly make a point of declaring any overages. We are not about to jeopardize such an important privilege as NEXUS over a triviality. If we come back home and are within our allowance, for example, 1.14 liters of alcohol after a 7 day trip, we don't bother to declare.
You must declare all goods purchased and gifts received. Each product is being imported into Canada whether an exemption applies or not.

We donate PA to the crew. The cabin steward said the crew appreciates it.
I didn’t know the crew could accept alcohol from passengers. That would be nice if they could since we left a bottle of Prosecco on our last voyage. -

I don’t believe that MSC sails to Alaska.
If you choose Princess, just a word of caution: don’t book one of the Royal-class ships as there are very limited viewing areas, both inside and outside. (I am not familiar with their other class ships so they may have more options.) All HAL’s ships are exterior-focused, while the Princess Royal-class ships are interior-focused. As well, the forward exterior space is an additional cost and there aren’t really any enclosed spaces where you can see the great outdoors. In addition, the Seaview Pool area is quite tiny, as is the prom.
With that many family members, you may want to call the Group Booking number as there will probably be incentives available. They can also offer help with any other issues which go along with booking large groups.
FWIW, all my extended family have enjoyed the HAL ships, including the young ones. Even those who have grown, and continue to sail, have HAL as a top choice.
Have a wonderful time in whichever cruise line you choose.

This misty walk-through was interesting. I bet the kids enjoy this in the summer.
Across the street from the mist is a place where you can get a full British breakfast with black pudding. That is where daughter and son-in-law headed while the rest of us walked up the street to do some shopping.
Shopping done, father and sister headed back to the ship while we went for a walk along the waterfront. There were people swimming while we were bundled up against the cold wind!
Looking back at the castle and the ferry port.
Back in town, I had the fish and chips (surprise!) and my son-in-law had the fish finger sandwich. Yum. I left them to wander the shops as I went on to the castle.
A view of the castle down a side street as we headed to that pick-up point.
Arriving at the castle I could see an uphill climb and lots of people trying to board the shuttle. Unfortunately, it was full and those waiting would have to wait for the next bus, so I decided I didn’t want to deal with either of those issues and stayed onboard to return to the ship.

The white cliffs as we approach the port of Dover, England.
The tour busses are in the foreground at the port. The two double-deckers on the far right are the shuttles which will make two stops: one to the city centre and the other at Dover Castle.
The cost was £7, €8, or $10usd, all payable at the bus. You will need to keep your ticket stub to get back on for the return trip. The drop-off and pick-up point for the city centre is at this church. If you find yourself on the other side where the shops are, just look for the church and you can walk around it to the bus.

In Le Havre we were going to join my daughter and son-in-law on a trip to Honfleurs et Deauville but we got tied up with some business at home and missed the bus so, instead, we walked Le Havre and visited the cathedral with the time we had left. The Honfleurs and Deauville tour is highly recommended by daughter and son-in-law. They said we would have loved it. The cost was $40 per person, round trip and was purchased independently (it was not a ship’s tour).
Most everything was leveled, here, during WWII, so they quickly rebuilt with lots and lots of cement.
We found Le Marché (the market) and had croissants, of course. My sister purchased spices and french milled soaps… as you do.
Les pâtisseries were a bit picked over by the time we passed by. We should have taken this route first.
A teddy bear picnic.
The war memorial.
Taxis are €10 each way and they will drop you off and pick you up by the above memorial. In comparison, the ship’s shuttle will cost $20 per person, round trip, and they will drop you off and pick you up by the same square.
