  1. Interesting stuff. Here is the scorecard of some of the more popular lines. No one can say that cruising is a dead form of vacationing!!

Carnival-4 ships between 2018-2022 with an aggregate capacity of 18.2k passengers.

Royal Caribbean-6 ships between 2018-2024 with a total capacity of 29k.

HAL-2 ships between 2018-2021 with a total capacity of 5.3k

MSC-9 ships between 2018-2026 with a total capacity of 44.1k. (Holy smokes!)

Norwegian-5 ships between 2018-2024 with a total capacity of 18.3k.

Viking Ocean-4 ships between 2018-2022 with a total capacity of 4K

Celebrity-4 ships between 2018-2022 with a total capacity of 11.6k

Princess-3 ships between 2019-2022 with a total capacity of 10.8k

Disney-3 ships between 2021-2023 with a total capacity of 7.5k

...and two newcomers to the industry

Virgin Cruises-3 ships between 2020-2022 with a total capacity of 8.4k

Ritz Carlton-3 ships between 2019-2022 with a total capacity of 900 passengers

All totaled, (and this is just for the selected cruise lines referred to here), that is 43 large (or large-ish) ships and 3 tiny ships with a total capacity of 158k passengers.

WOW!! That's a lot of ships. I wonder if any new ports are being constructed. Probably no way to tell.

  2. The production shows just don't change that quickly. There are still thousands of passengers who haven't had the opportunity to see the older ones and considering the cost of producing a new show, you'll have a long wait.

I hear ya.. Just was hoping. I know there are a couple shows around the fleet that haven't been on the Regal. Thought they may swap one. Not a deal breaker for me still plenty to do. Somewhat new to Princess and we love it.

  3. and before I begin, let me acknowledge up front, that this is a 1st world problem. So here it goes...I love cruising. I love the down time with my family. But I am tired of the same old ports. We cruise with our kids who are in Jr high and college and can only go pre-Christmas or spring break and there just seems to be nothing new! I have been to: Aruba, Curacao, Roatan, Belize, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. Marteen, San Juan, Nassau, Freeport and HMC.

We have Progresso and Cozumel booked on the Triumph pre-Christmas. Then the island hopper booked out of San Juan in Spring of 2018. And we are looking at the 4 day from Long Beach to Catalina and Ensenada in December 2018; the 7 day is out because it is Sat-Sat and we can't get there in time with exams from the east coast.

Can Carnival find/build/locate some new ports? Or at least offer some of the ones like St. Croix, Antigua, Bonaire, Columbia, Costa Rica and Panama more frequently???

Anyone else have this issue? We travel much more for the ports than the ship (thus the Fascination island hopper will be grand!). I am ready to start looking a spring break 2019 and if nothing catches my eye, it might me a US National Park trip. Cruising is so relaxing, but I really want to go new places and see new things....:(

You haven't been to the 2 best ports. St Lucia or Barbados.

  4. All the cruise lines we have been on have been great. There are things on some we like and things we don't like as much. I think all the major cruise lines would be great. There is a lot of competition and they all need to excel not only against each other but against Land vacations. I can't think of anything that would be so bad that I would never cruise a certain line. I want to try that new MSC ships. Also the New NCL ships. Haven't been on either yet.

  5. I highly doubt that since you've been on exactly 1 RCCL cruise and that was 9 years ago. In any case, I'm glad that you have found a couple of lines that you do like and can't find any reasons at all to not book with them.

Probably worded that wrong. Meant to say there are probably better reason not to book than non refundable deposits. I liked RCI Ok. Always check them when I look for bookings but always find better deals or itineraries elsewhere. My biggest reason for not booking RCI is they hardly have any cruise over 7 days. Unless you do a back to back. We like to look for 9-12 day cruises. The shortest we have been booking on Carnival is 8. We have booked 3 Princess cruises each were 10 days.

  6. We think the buffet on Princess blows Carnival away. Pizza also blows Carnival away. Shows are better. Drinks are cheaper plus they have a REAL happy hour. Carnivals steakhouse is wayyyy better than Princess tho. We are getting older and are starting to prefer Princess more relaxed cruising and like that it's classier and people tend to dress nicer. We also love the live music around the ship more.
